really liked what alan taylor said about louis... because that's what my feeling were as well and it's so nice to hear a normal take. it also shows how much the director's interpretation matters to the final result.

one of the amazing things about louis as the character, and one of the reasons why crazy lestat loves him... why we all love him, is he, at bottom, is so deeply empathetic and able to feel and suffer for others. i loved that his first response was "go fuck yourself", which is appropriate in these circumstances, and then when [armand] ups the stakes, he tries an apology, which is sorta what we'd all do if we were trying to get out of the situation... and when it comes down to it, he goes somewhere only someone like louis can go, which i think is to recognize what created armand and probably saying things that armand never heard and probably will never be able to articulate himself (x)

Louis describing Lestat in his season, while being with Armand and believing Lestat to be responsible for him and Claudia being lynched: He had a way about him. He was so charismatic and beautiful and I felt seen, and understood, with him.

iwtv season 4 is the one situation where i would be ok with using the unreliable narrator excuse to do a lazy retcon of the entire previous season where they're just like yeah lestat made all that up. crazy right. anyway let's get back to what really matters (ten vampires forced to sit around a table and listen to anne rice redhead #4 tell a long ass story about ritual cannibalism)

I think one of the main reasons I feel so frustrated with how the relationships are developing this season is that the show makes them feel almost interchangeable. Rather than giving each pairing its own distinct identity, the dynamics feel recycled and passed around. Rolin already admitted to lifting elements originally belonging to Nickistat and giving them to Loustat. It doesn't stop there though, they even handed a key Loumand confession in the book over to Loustat as well. In the last episode, they also gave Lesmand dynamic to Loumand. While not really clear yet, I get the impression that modern DM is being pushed to replicate Lestat/David (lesvid?) dynamic. All these decisions don't even feel like an attempt to create parallels or character development, it is simply treating these dynamics as tools for plot convenience (the plots also suck), cherry picking iconic moments from the books whenever it suits the narrative, completely stripping each pairing of its unique weight and traits

i unfortunately don't have links, but i'm pretty sure it was said in the couple of video interviews. i think he always expressed it light-heartedly/jokingly. i only remember in particular that he said he was apprehensive about louis' storyline in entertainment weekly cover for tvl.

i'm posting it in hopes that someone will share the correct links to interviews or clips where he said something along those lines!

I don’t know if the writers intended this or they just wanted to remove lesmand from the story for their loustat endgame bs and in doing so removing one of the core parts of tvl the book, but the orientalist implications of tvl!lestat hating armand for no reason and fully blaming him for everything he himself took part in (nicki’s death, the trial) and armand being nothing to him but a sexual object (he wasnt even considered as one of his meaningful relationships but we get multiple mentions from nicki of them fucking everywhere around paris) while he simultaneously portrays him as desperate, bad in bed, and pathetic for being submissive as he sexually degrades him at every turn? how does this make lestat look like anything but a racist piece of shit? I mean more than he usually is. they could’ve explored lestat’s orientalism but having nothing that challenges it and removing any love lestat has for armand makes it so hollow

queer people who think it's totally fine that tvl have almost no queer intimacy on screen should rethink their life and get away from the fandom for a bit. no one fucking watched iwtv for steamy gay sex, it was like 2 minutes of 13 hours. it may sound shocking, but some queer people actually care about depiction of queerness on screen, in all forms. meanwhile you're actively supporting censorship because you're afraid to criticize a fucking tv show.

rolin loves unreliable narrators, because he's the biggest unreliable narrator. we should all stop listening to him. burn down tvl (2026) and move on.

like, i'm serious. i think i finally had a revelation and i already said it in the comments to ash's post, but i think rolin is going through very difficult artistic crisis right now, and he obviously had some disagreements with other writers in iwtv and maybe felt pressured by amc, so he's basically taking out his frustrations on actors and fans of the show. like a lot of toxic men do.

he's not exactly trolling, but he's clearly voicing his ideas that were discussed in iwtv s1&2 writers' room but were dismissed for the lack of complexity and/or because they'd trap the writers in a corner and they were smart enough to avoid it.

he expressed some of this in tvl where he had most of creative control. it became obvious to me after "two lies" line by armand: this is something rolin said back in 2024 and he said it was "his interpretation" that a lot of people in the writers' room disagreed with. but he was putting it in a character's mouth now because he could. and he's trying to word-of-god a lot of stuff now in the interviews.

he's unravelling and he can't get over how little narrative control he had in s1&2 because there was a pushback by the writers and directors who tried to make a good story and then there was amc who tried to control the narrative as well. like many men who feel powerless, he's taking it out on everyone who supported or loved his work.

okay, the question of "why tf does lestat hate armand so much then?" aside, why tf is armand supposedly obsessed with lestat in the show? what "dynamic personality" did he talk about in that fuckass apology later? the man sat on his ass at home for 30 years doing fuck all, had a brief stint as an actor (because nicki got him a job) before magnus abducted and turned him, and then seemingly went straight back to being pushed around by mommy immediately after turning her.

and yeah, the way he broke up armand's coven in 2x3 was really hot and sexy of him, but we're supposed to question what we were told in S1-S2, aren't we? especially if it's armand's retelling of events. and with the way S3 portrayed lestat, that's the part of armand's story i'm most inclined to discard as fanfiction lmao
