“ i don’t know what you’re sneering for. “ he’d always wanted to go to a fansign but alas that had never happened he was lucky to get out of the house half of the time but that didn’t matter. he licks his bottom lip before he bites into it and frowns . “ no. i didn’t. “ he shakes his head and looks at him. “ can i go or do you need something ? “ he asks.
kaoru stands in front of jaewon still, fingers stroking along his chin like some villain from a cartoon show. he doesn’t really have anything he can terrorize the kid with, beyond what he’s already said and done. he’s losing his touch, but maybe it’s just because the kid isn’t really showing any reaction beyond being annoyed. he isn’t trying to punch kaoru or call him names, all the usual things. frankly, it’s disappointing.
“aw,” kaoru hums in mock sympathy, “did you want an autograph way back then?” he chuckles condescendingly. he steps away then and leans against the building. “yeah, you’re free. go.” he shrugs a shoulder, face passive now, no longer sneering or mocking the younger boy. “have a nice life, kid.”
five word prompts
[inspired by this]
“actually… i just miss you.”
“alright, i’ll leave you alone.”
“and slowly… i was forgotten.”
“and then everything just disappears.”
“and where do i go?”
“anyone could tell from here.”
“are you finishing that or…?”
“are you stupid or stupid?”
“anything, just call me, okay?”
“bitch better have my money.”
“bro… that’s so… not cool…”
“but did you do it?”
“call me now. it’s urgent.”
“can’t you listen to me?”
“cross that. don’t answer that.”
“don’t even think about it.”
“don’t you dare walk away.”
“do it. i dare you.”
“did you think i forgot?”
“eventually… you just move on.”
“even if you still do.”
“everything will fall into place.”
“fight me, you attractive stranger.”
“for once, i need you.”
“for once… i was right.”
“for once… i was wrong.”
“forget i even asked you.”
“forget it. you fucking suck.”
“fuck’s sake, what’s your problem?”
“fuck off. i mean it.”
“give and take. that’s life.”
“great. perfect. nice. fuck this.”
“have you lost your mind?”
“hello? it’s me. i was-”
“hey… that wasn’t so nice.”
“here’s a glass of whatever.”
“how about a hug, hm?”
“how about you make me?”
“i haven’t forgot you yet.”
“i can’t be around you.”
“i don’t need you, really.”
“i don’t need this now.”
“is this your first time?”
“it’s just a cut, really.”
“it wasn’t me, i swear!”
“i said i love you.”
“just don’t fuck it up.”
“just… come back alive, okay?”
“just make sure you’ve eaten.”
“kick his ass for me.”
“killed him? wait, what, literally?”
“life really sucks. feel better.”
“letting go hurts… a lot.”
“let me live, will you?”
“no, i don’t need you.”
“nothing can hurt me now.”
“nothing matters anymore to me.”
“okay it was me… so?”
“people lie all the time.”
“pipe the fuck down, asshole.”
“please, you can’t die now.”
“please don’t leave me alone.”
“quiet. they can hear us.”
“quick! give me your phone!”
“quicker, you freaking piece of-”
“quit it or i’ll bite.”
“quit staring! they’ll notice us!”
“really? do i look stupid?”
“real smooth, tripping over air.”
“rise and shine, sweet thing.”
“rise and fucking shine, motherfucker.”
“seriously? give me a break.”
“so… what are we now?”
“so… did you miss me?”
“so… can we go eat?”
“so… when’s the next flight?”
“so… how did everything go?”
“sometimes, i wish you died.”
“so what? you did it.”
“time passes slower without you.”
“then what do you suggest?”
“the fuck? who are you?”
“then you tell me why.”
“this is not working out.”
“this isn’t what i wanted.”
“this is all a fucking disaster.”
“when did it all happen?”
“who knew you’d be here?”
“why do i even bother?”
“why do i love you?”
“why didn’t you tell me?”
“you’re just… so, so stupid.”
“you can’t be here now.”
“you look like an accident.”
“you really need to go.”
“you know who to call.”
“zero fucks given. next please.”

as ae distracts himself again he turns to look at kaoru once more when he speaks. “ the elevator ? “ he doesn’t take note of the teasing tone to kaoru’s voice but he offers a small polite smile. “ whatever way’s quicker for you. “ he’s a droid taking the stairs doesn’t bother him but of course whichever way seems to be quicker for kaoru.
“ is 804 your usual room ? “ he asks without much thought to it,, just a naturally curious question.
slowly, kaoru is trying to reveal that he has no intentions of *using* chinae, but it doesn’t seem like the droid understands just yet. he’s either being too subtle, or the droid just simply doesn’t know how to act. maybe he’s never had this kind of thing happen, which only makes kaoru’s fist tighten by his side. “elevator it is then,” he says, chuckling a little. his tension eases away as he guides chinae to the elevators, pressing the button to call it down.
“well, not that room really, but i have used it before. it has a better view out of all of them. i just prefer the eighth floor.” he shrugs a shoulder and then steps into the elevator when it dings and opens the doors. “so, are there foods you like? junk food, particularly?” he leans against the wall and watches chinae with that same teasing smile.

“ oh. i see … . that makes sense. that’s nice of you. “ unusually characteristic for a human to be concerned about whether a droid is scared of heights but he supposes it’s a nice enough gesture and he doesn’t question it at all. he looks ahead of them too and feels the slight squeeze at his hand and he looks back towards kaoru again and offers what he thinks is a genuine smile but he’s not sure of it looks more like a grimace. “ oh right. “ he nods his head and he scratches the back of it with his free unoccupied hand. he tries not to sigh, and bites the inside of his cheek. “ yes. “
kaoru hums softly to chinae’s confirmation to living at the club. he doesn’t like it, never has, but there’s nothing he can do at present… except for burn the place down, but that’s truly a solution. another place will be built and what will happen to the droids in the meantime? they could be shut down and that wouldn’t do at all. kaoru cares too much for arc, and he knows he’ll feel upset if chinae is shut down even though he’s just met him. so, no burning down the club. *for now.
they arrive at the hotel fairly quickly and in silence. kaoru isn’t sure what to say, not that that’s a new thing, his words are never quite thought through even in softer moments, so it’s better to just not say anything at all. the lobby is nice and quiet this time of the night and all humans have gone home from the front desk. it’s only one lone droid there and she smiles kindly when kaoru walks over to pick up a key.
“hey,” he greets, bowing his head politely to her. “is room 804 free?” the girl droid merely nods her head and hands him the key in exchange for money. “you have my info yeah?”
she nods her head. “i do, kaoru-san. have a good night, and please call if there are any issues.”
kaoru gives her a smile and then bows his head to her once more. “so… elevator or stairs?” he teases chinae with once they turn towards the way to get upstairs.

jaewon stares at him,, and blinks whilest his lips press into a thin line and he shrugs. “ i was when i was a kid. “ he states,, though that’s a lie,, he was a fan right up until this particular moment and now he’s not so sure. his fingers curl around the bag he’s holding. “ jaewon. what’s it matter ? “ he asks quietly.
kaoru knows he’s needlessly antagonizing this poor kid, but he can’t help it. the boy looks like one of those smiley kinds of people and nothing makes his night than ruining this kind of person’s day. maybe it’s this subconscious need to make everyone as miserable as he is, but it’s mostly just the hate he feels for humans in general. doesn’t even matter that this kid hasn’t shown any aggression or disdain towards a droid. he’s here, he’s human, so he’s kaoru’s metaphorical punching bag for right now.
“wow, are you that young?” kaoru sneers, looking away with a little sneer. “oh, i was just curious. you looked familiar, like i’ve seen you somewhere or something. never came to some sort of fansign or some shit?” he hums, stroking his chin in thought. what can he get this kid with now. maybe he’s having an off night since he can’t readily think of something to do with the kid.
night hotel
empathets:
( ... ) he hadn’t anticipated the comment that was made , which is why his eyes widen ever so slightly , mouth frozen with food still sitting inside of it. how does he respond to that ? taehyun’s not the kind to get into fights , but even he can’t help but feel annoyed at the unwarranted comment. he finishes chewing his food before clearing his throat. “ um … thanks. ” an awkward chuckle , coming across as more of a scoff. “ if that’s how you feel , i guess you’re in the right place. the owners don’t have any droids working here , so. ” he takes another bite of his food , hoping to finish it as soon as possible.
for the longest time, kaoru’s known that he’s hard to handle. even as a kid he was, his parents would tell him that every morning as they got him up to go to his schedules. when they got dowon, he was happier because dowon always woke him with a smile and kiss to the forehead. but now, he likes being difficult, he wants people to be uncomfortable around him. all the better when they’re being crude or ugly to droids — kaoru wants them to think twice about doing it again. tonight, however, kaoru’s just simply being like this because he can be. “i know i’m fine,” kaoru chuckles before bringing the cigarette back to his lips and taking a long draw from it. why he feels the need to bother a lowly worker at a sex hotel is anyone’s guess really, kaoru has other people he can go and annoy — like the bartenders at rapture. but this kid seems rather fun to fuck with, so of course kaoru’s going to take time to make him as uncomfortable as possible. “damn… people actually using people for a change… i might have to come here more often to give them my thanks… maybe next time i won’t trash a room.” he smirks, blowing smoke up into the night air. “so anyway… you seem familiar. guess you’ve worked here a while? no getting a better job? not interested in moving up, or,” kaoru grins a little, “you just can’t move up?”

with a booming “excuse me” accompanied by a few claps of his hand he catches the attention of the bickering crowd, “as the patient’s physician i must put their health and wellbeing first. as this situation is causing much distress for my patient i will have to ask all parties to leave the room. i will allow you all back in once all members have calmed down and once i can ensure the health of my patient. thank you for being understanding of the situation. if you have any disagreements with my medical opinion the staff outside can escort you out.”
even though kaoru has his ears covered, hearing the first clap causes him to jump. he hates feeling so weak, so useless. he’s grateful for the doctor for speaking up. it doesn’t even occur to him that this doctor is a droid yet, but he hasn’t opened his eyes either.
“how dare you!” kaoru’s father begins before his wife takes him by the arm and nudges at him to leave the room. she spares one glance back at kaoru before giving a disapproving shake of her head at him.
the police, at a loss since they know there’s nothing they can do now, decide to follow suit. they’ll be back with questions later, but for now the can get nothing but the parents’ statement and then return another day to question kaoru. these things are taken seriously, and kaoru’s pretty sure he’ll be evaluated mentally as well, not something he’s looking forward to.
for now, he’s alone aside from his doctor, so he pulls his hands away from his ears. there’s no sound and his relief is plain to see as he relaxes completely in bed, arms resting over his stomach. he rolls his eyes up to fight off the pain of the oncoming migraine, but it doesn’t help at all.
“thank you,” he says softly, looking at his doctor now. “fucking threw me out and think they have a right to come in here and piss me off…” he grumbles, gritting through his teeth even though his voice is unstable and cracks, signs of how exhausted he is. for all his fight, he has little energy to do much but grunt about it.

“ uh . . yeah. “ it wasn’t like he could bother to lie. the grin immediately makes jaewon frown and he tries brushing it off so he shrugs his shoulders. “ clearly. “ he mutters quietly and then shrugs again. “ i . . didn’t say or think you were. “ he says and he looks back up to the tv and feels the other push past him and he stumbles a little turning to watch him walk off. a scowl makes it’s way to his lips as he turns grabbing his own stuff, pays for it and heads out. for all he admired kaoru when he was growing up meeting him wasn’t what he had actually ever expected it to be,, but what could he do ?
he doesn’t know why he does it, but kaoru stops not too far from the convenience store. perhaps it’s wanting to be an even bigger dick, but there’s no guarantee that the boy will be heading the way he went. still, he waits, leaning against the wall of a cafe. he waits to throw his chips away just when he notices jaewon heading down the street towards him. he steps out right in front of the younger and then chuckles a little. “oh sorry, am i in your way?”
he’s quite aware of how harsh he’s being to someone who was his fan at one point, but he just can’t seem to help himself. “so, you’re a fan, or… were one, is probably about right now, yeah? what’s your name, kid?”
birthday.
“do you know what day it is today?”
dowon blinks at the question, hands pausing in the movement of scrubbing dishware. there’s a pot bubbling with the beginning of miso soup on the stove top along with some other dishes being prepared. he’s working on dinner for kaoru, just kaoru as his parents have gone out for the night with some of kaoru’s directors.
“no, i do not,” dowon replies, turning from the sink as he dries his hand on a towel. “what is today, kaoru?” he smiles at his charge.
kaoru leans onto the table, over his homework, and grins. “today’s your birthday.”
dowon blinks again, head tilting. “kaoru, i do not have a birthday. i am not human.”
“yes you are!” kaoru huffs, eyebrows furrowed. he kicks his feet under the table, a sign of annoyance, so dowon backtracks.
“why is today my ‘birthday’?”
“because today’s the one year anniversary of you coming here. it’s been one whole year, dowon, aren’t you happy?”
happiness is an emotion dowon is supposed to emulate, not feel, and yet… with kaoru in his presence, there’s a sense of calm, a sense of belonging. he’d heard of this before, searches on the internet tell him all about droids defecting. perhaps he is defective, but he’s never been violent with kaoru. he only feels love for his little charge.
dowon smiles. “i am happy because i have you, kaoru. nothing makes me happier than days when it is just you and i.”
the young boy pushes back from the kitchen table to walk into dowon’s slowly opening arms. he hugs onto him tight and nuzzles against dowon’s chest. he’s already tall enough to be confused for someone in their late teens, a fact dowon teases him about daily, but he knows it’s only with love that the droid teases.
“are you really happy?” he whispers, tilting his head back to stare right into dowon’s eyes.
it’s a loaded question. kaoru knows very well what happens to defective droids, it’s all over the news and has only been growing every day. but dowon can’t keep a secret from kaoru, not even if his protocol calls for it.
“i am,” he whispers, threading his fingers through kaoru’s hair. “i’m truly happy to be here with you, kaoru, and nothing will extinguish that.”
kaoru smiles fondly, eyes crinkled at the corners. “good. it’s our secret then.”
a sizzling bring them out of their moment, the pot with the miso beginning to call for attention by boiling over the sides of the pot. dowon releases kaoru to check on it while the boy goes back to his homework in silence.
“hey, dowon? let’s go out for cake after dinner. i’ll sing happy birthday to you.”
dowon feels his ticking heart stutter, honestly touched by the young boy’s sweet offering. for the first time, dowon will get to feel what it’s like to celebrate something a human does. “i’d like that, kaoru.”
later, when they go out for cake, dowon is coaxed into picking out the flavor he wants, with kaoru’s argument being that it’s his birthday they’re celebrating.
//
it’s quiet in kaoru’s apartment on this particular night, it always is. one area of the circular living room is bathed in the faint glow of a single candle on top of a blueberry cheesecake. it sits on top of the coffee table near the sofa kaoru is sitting on. he leans forward, hovering near the candle.
“happy birthday wherever you are, dowon,” he whispers and he blows out the candle before a tear slides down his cheek.

ae watches him look left and right,, and his hands are clasped in front of him because he himself is unsure of what he’s supposed to do. he waits patiently,, and looks down at his hands until it’s taken by kaoru and his eyes widen as he’s guided in the direction kaoru wants them to go. “ hotel. “ he nods his head,, it’s not like he hasn’t been at one before but he doesn’t want to be in one again. “ i’m not afraid of heights,, no. “ he shakes his head,, keeping his gaze forward. “ why ? “ he asks finally looking at the slightly smaller man walking beside him. “ do you live around here ? “ he asks trying to make small conversation.
kaoru knows he’s being rather vague and untrustworthy, but he simply has to be cautious due to ae’s specific circumstance. it’s how he’d been with narcissus the first time he’d taken him away from rapture. it’s how he is with most droids who show signs of deviating, but can’t safely get away from their masters. with kaoru, these ‘defectives’ have a safe haven and he takes them where they can be themselves. this time is no different. ae has no idea what kaoru has planned, but he hopes the other likes it.
“yes, a hotel… and i asked because my room number is usually a higher floor.” he smirks a little at chinae, but it slowly shifts into a gentle smile now that they’re further away from rapture. “i’d get a room on a lower level if you were scared of heights.” he squeezes ae’s hand as they walk, not at all rushing the other. a good bit ahead of them sits a rather fancy hotel — not necessarily a five star hotel, but one that offers nice television and room service. it’s good enough and so much better than the ones kaoru takes his human bedmates to. “i don’t, actually. i live two subway stops away.” he answers chinae. “you stay at the club, yes?”
d-narcissus:
( ... ) “Only if you take me back to your place and get a shower with me,” he murmured softly, a small, mischievous smile coming across his face. Not at the potential for such a thing to become steamy, but simply because Arc, after all, was of course, going to ask such a thing. It was an innocent yet intimate act that Arc enjoyed.
kaoru smiles at how quickly arc perks up at the mention of a shower. if it were kaoru’s choice, he’d do anything to keep that sweet smile on arc’s lips. but it isn’t. still, he does what he can to make arc’s night better, and that includes relenting to a shower with the droid. well, ‘relenting’ isn’t exactly the word to use really.
“i suppose i could shower again,” kaoru sighs out. he’d look exasperated with the idea were it not for the little smirk he wears on his lips. teasing arc is a highlight of his night and it’s never, ever more than he thinks the droid could take. “what a devious little smile for someone so cute, prince,” he chuckles, gently pinching at arc’s cheek. “alright, anything you want to grab before we go? no? good, let’s blow this fucking joint.” he pulls back from the embrace and takes arc’s hand, guiding him out of the backroom and through the darkest corner he can so he can sneak him away for the rest of the night.
riling up
js-error:
( ... ) “Don’t test me, baby,” he breathed, brushing his lips against Kaoru’s. He knew it would piss him off. Knew it would get him going, just as he wanted. “It’d be a shame to be late to work. Then again…” he tugged at his belt loops before allowing his fingers to trail over his belt buckle. “I don’t exactly have a set time to be in. I’d only be late by my standards.” He finally pulled back completely, a smirk playing across his lips still.
“why not?” kaoru scoffs softly, arms folded over his chest. “you are a princess after all.” he smirks at the other, not even flinching when he moves in closer. he lets jae invade his personal space like he’s never allowed any other human. perhaps he’s softer for jae, even if he enjoys giving him a hard time — in more than one way. “just remember, princess,” kaoru hisses softly, “a peasant has more power than you because there are so many more of them than a lowly princess.”
this is the way things always start. kaoru riles jae up and then they find a little niche or dark corner to do some rather nasty things to one another. kaoru’s hand slides up, up, up into jae’s hair, fisting the soft strands and yanking his head away from kaoru’s face. then jae’s stepping away from him, but kaoru won’t let him. he grabs at the back of jae’s neck, only allowing him to go so far. “you really wanna put yourself on display, huh?” he snorts softly, “alright. on your knees, princess.”
nobody knows how i got here
should be dead
[ @hoonrk ]
the last thing kaoru remembers is downing another pill, glass of water trembling with his shivering. he remembers sinking into the empty bathtub, accepting his fate of death. maybe just a long sleep. either one was fine, he no longer cared. but now, now, he wakes up in a wall plastered in so much white he wants to puke. beside him sits one of his parents’ droids, a sweet smile on its lips, nothing that would show it was a droid and not human. it promises to take care of kaoru, to help him get better. kaoru reaches his hand out and the droid takes it, squeezing his fingers. like this, kaoru passes back out.
the next evening kaoru wakes up, blinking blearily as the noise level in the room goes from zero to one hundred in point five seconds. he groans and grabs at something, unsure of what he’s reaching for.
“kaoru,” a stern voice says. his dad. “how dare you.”
how dare he? how dare he what? kaoru opens his eyes then, only to be assaulted by the bright light in the room, eyes watering. he shifts a bit and squints through the pain to make out four shapes, no five. two are his parents — one because he knows his father’s voice, and two, because his mother is wearing that god awful pink dress kaoru hates with a passion. two figures are clad in black, or a dark navy — something along those lines. and the other is wearing white.
the droid is nowhere in sight that he can tell.
“kaoru, pay attention!” his mother scoffs at him, and kaoru frowns.
“pay attention to what? your shrill fucking voice pounding in my head?” he croaks, reaching up and rubbing at his head. what the fuck happened to him?
“ito kaoru, it’s the police and we have some questions for you.” again with the police, and kaoru supposes his family isn’t going to help him out this time. of course not, why would they? he was a disappointment.
“suck my dick,” kaoru spits and his father admonishes him while his mother apologizes to the police officers. “i want my lawyer, fuck off.” he squeezes his eyes shut as his mother gasps at his language, trying to scold him like a child while his father curses at him and the police officers try calming everyone down. it’s too much for kaoru right now, his head is spinning and if he doesn’t get a trash bin quickly, he’s going to throw up all over himself.
a whimper. “please…” kaoru pleads as he holds his aching head, but no one hears him.
