My tape collection. Tapes are great.
A lot of BART LEAF in there
BART042: Prepared - Trust Me
RIP. Prepared may have been short lived, but they carried the weight of decades worth of bands under their belts. Made up of members from a wide array of Calgary's most luminescent and forward thinking hardcore bands (Stalwart Sons, Damages, Wake, Tel Fyr), Prepared destroyed local hot dog establishments with their ripping rhythm, cutting guitars and sly vocal. Now with Trust Me, Prepared have culminated their wry bent of post-hardcore into a dope new record. Never sleep.

BART041: Heavy Mountain - s/t
Hot new tape from the tag team of Kevin Stebner (GreyScreen) and Micah Stone (Rapx). Heavy Mountain strives for a unique take on Hip Hip, with Stone’s imagery-filled spoken word over Stebner’s beats built from old country and folk samples. When I say “friend,” you say “ship”. Listen here / Buy here.
Podcast interview about a little of Bart Records history and some stuff about Kevin’s bands.

BART040: Knots - Four Years in the Shade
New KNOTS! Unlike the sparseness of previous Knots (BART028), Four Years in the Shade sees Knots delving into a little more power pop territory, with some of his best songwriting to date. 9 songs of immediate catchiness and memorability.

BART039: Lucid 44 - Black/Veins
One of Calgary’s most unsung, the newest release from Marcus Overland’s Lucid 44 project. Black/Veins is 6 more songs of grungy, hypnotic jams. Not to miss.

BART037: No Hands / Prepared split CS
Two of Canada’s rippingest post-hardcore purveyors join forces on the spools to release a hefty combo punch. Calgary’s Prepared drop a couple more from their previous session, with perpetual set-opener “How to Stand without Falling” alongside the joyfully sarcastic “Texting While Driving.” Toronto/Windsor band No Hands deliver the riff heavy “Long Ending,” with members trading vocal shots culminating in the tastiest sour lick. Split release w. No Hands. Art by the wonderful Tallulah Fontaine Jam it HERE // Buy it HERE
BART038: GreyScreen - Chillebration
Years in the making, GreyScreen aka Kevin Stebner is finally dropping his new collection of his unique take on chiptune. Pushing the Gameboy to its functional limits, Chillebration is 8 jams of sweeping waves, bouncy bloops and rhythmic noise. GreyScreen will have your pixel dreams filtering, and will have you perpetually hitting reset on the tape deck. Cassette release show Friday, June 3 @ Tubby Dog 8 pm

Here’s some live footage of us playing a handful of new songs while on tour in Little Rock, AR nearly a month ago.
BART036: Prepared - Young & Poor
Calgary’s PREPARED finally drop more songs. Members of Stalwart Sons, Damages, and Tel Fyr among others, PREPARED blaze through a fresh batch of rippers. 4 songs that come from the same sessions as their split Veneers, but these are all thematically linked in that they all deal with the notion of being a young man and having very little money. More thoughtful than throwback, more wry than self-serious, more aware than punk seems to be, faster than it could otherwise be.
Listen here. Order here.

REWIN015: Prepared ≠ Veneers split 7″
At long last (#effRSDforever), the new split from Calgary’s PREPARED and Toronto-via-Newfoundland’s VENEERS is finally upon us! Prepared feature fellows from some of Calgary’s strongest output (Stalwart Sons, Tel Fyr, Damages, Cold Craving) and are on deck to take over the planet. Prepared hit us with a couple jammers, the whole band driving headlong, lyrically sure to make you feel a way. Veneers hit us with to tracks of telephone recorded vocals amidst rhythmic wash and Women-y lines. Split release with Veneers’ own new Far So Far Records. This is worth your time. Jam it here. Order it to your very home here.
Officially the best #sled2015 photo of them all. #urinedenim #wetslacks #peepeepants
BART035: Jom Comyn - The Black Pits EP
Back with another tape, this time from Edmonton’s Jom Comyn. After the stellar self released LP In the Dark on 99, songwriter Jim Cumming comes with 6 new songs - this time each recorded with a different friend/producer, giving each track it’s own distinctive feel. Jom Comyn comes to waltz with you with some brooding and heartfelt tunes. These will be available for the Jom Comyn show at Sled Island, or if you’re in Edmonton, grab one soon at the release show.
Order the tape here.
Ghost throats is finally here! Saturday in Edmonton, Sunday in Calgary. Get those hashtags ready. #ghostthroats
