Karina noticed the awkwardness of the girl, but really, since the objects were already in her hands, there was less of a chance of getting a negative response, which she was correct about She had a small, satisfied smile on her lips as she set the ladder up and then turned back to the girl watching her curiously.

“Almost. My bell above the door got loose, fell and broke yesterday so I had to replace it.” She nodded towards the new one that was in the girl’s hands already, a relatively basic bell with small,  small opaque blue and purple stones hanging around the bell. “I was kind of bummed first because the previous one looked really good, but I managed to find one that I like even better, so now the last step is making sure this one doesn’t fall, too, right?”

Reyna nodded along as she explained what she was fixing and felt kind of dumb when she didn’t realize it was the bell. She was literally holding it.. Duh. Although it’s not like she was inspecting each piece in her arms. Reyna just tried to remind herself that she was just happy to help. Her mother always taught her to help those in need. Anyone that needed a hand, not just those who are in unfortunate circumstances. Plus Reyna’s just too nice for her own good most times. 

“Yeah, no. This one is really nice. We can’t just let in fall like the other one.” She agreed, already on board with being her spare hands. “I’m Reyna by the way. “ She said, realizing she hadn’t introduced herself yet.

Between the end of ballet classes and picking up Elena from school, Luisa found herself with quite sometime to kill. Life in Havenport was drastically different from the one she led in New York, where it was work all the time, fast all the time, and every once in a while she caught herself enjoying the stillness. She’d be dumb if she had not seen the effect of their new life on her daughter, as well, she had always been a dream child, but actually being there to give her advise and know what was going on in her life? That was just priceless (that and picking her up at high school, her face was comical whenever Luisa got out of the car instead of waiting for her inside). A string of no’s immediately pulled her out of her thoughts and brought back her focus. With a small nod, she complied to the girl’s request, but she recognized rummaging through a purse like that. “Are you okay, though? Is there anything I can help you with?” 

“Hmm?” Reyna raised her head to look at the woman, her question taking a second to register. “Oh, yeah. I’m okay. Thank you. Just a forgotten wallet, nothing serious.” She gave a small reassuring smile. “It’s probably better that I saved my money anyways.” She added, thinking about her amazon purchases the night before. Reyna stepped aside, out of the line so she wouldn’t be blocking anyone’s way. She wasn’t a big fan of confrontation so she always made sure that she was courteous to the people around her.

“I’m glad to hear it! Can’t be too careful though, there’s always someone out there who doesn’t want a dog jumping on them out of nowhere!” Cassandra let herself relax and allowed Prince to continue his investigation of sniffing the girl before accepting the petting. “His name is Prince since that’s how we treat him. Do you have any pets of your own?”

“You can’t trust people who don’t like dogs. That’s like not liking sunshine and happiness!” Reyna joked, looking up from the dog for a brief moment before returning her attention to Prince. “Prince is the perfect name for this magnificent pupper.” She cooed, scratching behind his fluffy ear. “My dad has an amazing yellow lab named Harley. He’s basically another brother.”

Reyna was waiting in line to order herself a warm beverage from the local coffee shop. She wasn’t much of a coffee drinker so she was debating on between a hot chocolate or tea. She noticed she was nearing the front of the line so she reached inside her bag for her wallet.. Only to realize she had forgotten it at home. “No no no no..” She muttered to herself, looking for any loose change or bills at the bottom of her purse.  “You can go ahead of me.” She offered to the person behind her.

“Okay hear me out, what is the damn point of jalapenos in ice cream? Who the fuck does that right? Only a psycho that’s who.” He said as he proceeded to take a bite from the pint of ice cream and gagging at the taste. “Wanna try?”

“Maybe they thought the milk and cold from the ice cream would counteract the heat?” Reyna curiously wondered, watching him gag from the taste. “I think I’ll pass.” She chuckled, amused by him continuing to eat the ridiculous ice cream flavor. “Maybe we should get something that’s actually appetizing.”

The bell over the door of the shop fell and broke the previous day, which resulted in the clients and potential customers scaring a hunched over, drawing Karina all day long since it didn’t even register for her that people came in, so there was no question that she would need to put up a new one. She found a pretty purple and blue one in the morning and now that she had a little bit of free time in between two appointments, she grabbed the small ladder she had in her shop, the hammer, and a box of screws she got from pops and the bell.

She maneuvered the door open with her hands full and grinned when she saw a person coming down the street, passing her just at the right time to push the hammer, the box and the bell into the person’s hands. “Hey, come help me and hold these for me, okay? Thanks!” And she was already setting down the ladder from her other hand, setting the ladder to the right place as if the person actually agreed to help.

Reyna had just finished her errands for the day and was about to head home when she passed by the local tattoo shop. She was surprised as the woman dumped her things into her arms. “Oh.. yeah. Okay.” She awkwardly agreed, watching her set up the ladder. Reyna glanced down at the things she was holding, curious what she was helping with. “Fixing the door?”

It was a beautiful and hot day out so when Julian gave her his perfected puppy dog eyes when asking to go to the park, Cassandra couldn’t refuse. It was a good excuse to take their corgi Prince out to work his little legs so after packing a bag with drinks and snacks she took her son and dog out to expend some of their energy. 

While she had her eyes on Julian helping another kid on the monkey bars, Prince started eagerly barking as he began to tug Cassie a little bit backward. They didn’t get too far of course, but she looked over at the person Prince was attempting to happily pounce on and gave them an apologetic smile as she did her best to calm him down. “Sorry about him! I promise he isn’t trying to bite you, he just really loves making friends.”

Reyna was enjoying the sunny day, taking the long way through the park on her walk home. She was lost in thought, thinking about which movie she was going to watch tonight when was she snapped out of it by the sound of a dog barking. She was pleasantly surprised to see a little corgi scampering over to say hello. “That’s good, because I love making friends too.” She smiled, leaning down to pet the friendly pup.

PAST

Reyna was born in Toronto, Canada. She spent her childhood growing up in a small suburb outside the city until one day when her father was offered an amazing job opportunity. When she was 13, they moved to the States, an hour away from Havenport.

Reyna’s mother passed away when she was 7 and her older brother was 8. Her car was hit by a drunk driver one night when she was on her way home from work.

Reyna’s father is a well known marketing genius in the business world. After moving to the states, his career boomed and now he can live his life comfortably. (He’s got some money)

Reyna’s brother was her best friend growing up. Since they were so close in age, they were absolutely inseparable until their mother died. After that, their relationship drifted apart, especially after moving. Her brother became popular in high school while she did not. They kept to their own friend groups and only hung out at home.

Starting high school in a new country was weird for Reyna. There was a lot that was similar with how things are in Canadian schools, but some things were definitely different. The focus on sports, school dances and functions were tenfold than what she was used to.

Reyna has always been obsessed with cheesy romantic comedies, getting that from her mom. They used to put one on every Friday and cuddle up on the couch. It’s no wonder that Reyna would keep the tradition going, spending most weekends on the couch, in her comfies, watching cliche love stories until the morning sun. She spent so much time fantasizing about perfect movie moments that she missed out on making any of her own in high school.

She was always the one in the back of the class, doodling and barely paying attention, lost in her own daydreams. She kept to herself a lot, usually oblivious to the world around her.

She went to college to become a child psychologist, inspired by the lady who helped her after her mother passed away.

Reyna moved to Havenport after college, wanting to be on her own but still close enough to her father.

Her birthday is March 3rd, big pisces vibe

Reyna habitually drinks tea, never finding a liking for coffee. Every morning, she has a cup of orange pekoe tea with 2 milks and one sugar (depending if she’s feeling sweet or not).

Standing outside, under the moon and stars is where she feels most at peace. They have a calming effect on her.

Reyna is the one friend that everyone goes to for advice but never seems to know what to do with her own problems

She’s a giver, always going out of her way to help others before she helps herself.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Counsellor/child psychologist - works for the school mainly but helps out at the police station when needed with certain cases.
