She had to work harder to keep up with him, but she would not be deterred. “My sister would be so angry if she found out about this. She’d say princesses don’t challenge future high lords to races.”

It would have been shameful if people found out, and it would have resulted into a huge scandal for the whole royal family. It had to be avoided. And that seemed like the only way.”

“I did just leave him. Sometimes I wish I should have listened to father and sent Daemon to Essos. He would have lead a nice life far away from here and I wouldn’t have to live with the pain of seeing him everyday. Or maybe he could have responded to my letters and taken us both from here.”

Oh? Why do you think that? Seeing all of these new children in your family hasn’t made you want any yourself?

No, not really. I think it’s more the fear of being a mother. I’m afraid I’ll make mistakes that’ll cause them to hate me.

“No. I’m nowhere near as good at hunting as he is.” Orys smirked a little at that. “And I’m quite good on that front. Perhaps you can keep your handkerchief to dry your own tears with.”

“Ten gold dragons it is then.” She smirked, turning to walk towards the stables. “Are you coming, Lord Orys?”

“A man can’t hunt well if he’s not a formidable rider. And perhaps we should, though I do not doubt you could have a new cloak at any opportunity you wanted, your Highness.”

“Are you like your father in all aspects? I suppose you’re right. I’ll buy a handkerchief then, for you to wipe your tears when you lose.”

“I’ve come to learn that. I’d even say Winter has warmed up to me, which is.. fortunate.” he let a smile play on his lips, reciprocating the emotion the princess was giving him. “I’ve heard from my sister that dragons aren’t as bad as they seem. At least the dragons she’s been close to. I’ll say I’m lucky to never have been in proximity to one in order to judge it myself.”

“In truth, dragons are not all that different from direwolves. They’re both fiercely loyal to their owners and will do anything to protect them. Visenya would never hurt a fly unless someone tried to hurt me.”

“You’ll have other children in the future. I believe that.”

“What if I don’t want other children? How will I ever face Daemon when he gets older? He won’t know, but I will. I’ll know that I left him.”

Ah, well of course. You just made a point that you weren’t very fond of children, but I suppose being there when they are born can change one’s mind.

I don’t think children will ever truly be for me. The twins aren’t mine. Seeing them once every few days is far different than being their mother.

“Oh, I’m sure you needn’t worry about finding a match! You must have so many men vying for your hand, I’m sure you’ll find one you like that the King will approve. And childbirth did seem to work well for Princess Dany, even with twins - I’m so thankful for that. Perhaps it’s a good sign.”

“They want my title. I very much doubt any lord wants the wild and willful daughter of Rhaegar. Perhaps one day I’ll find someone who I want to marry. What about you, Serra? Have you found a man worthy of your hand?”

“Oh, even so, you are still the princess, Rhaenys. I’m glad you’ve been well, even if I’m sorry to hear the past few months have been hard. But what made them so?”

“And you are still my cousin, Rose. In public we are forced to address each other so properly, but that does not mean we have to do it in private. It’s a story far too long to tell. There has been many changes in my life as of late.”

“Hawks and horses, even hounds, I can deal with.” An exhausted sigh left his lips as he slid a hand through his dark hair. “But having a direwolf, albeit sweet and harmless, took a bit of getting used to. I wonder what would scare the servants most; a dragon or a direwolf?”

“Direwolves are harmless if you’re good to their owners. They’re fiercely protective of them, as I’m sure you’ve already found out.” Rhaenys smiled, clasping her hands in front of her. “The servants in King’s Landing took a while to take to the direwolves, but I doubt they’ll ever stop fearing the dragons. Too unpredictable.”

“I do, often, though the nurse doesn’t like for her to be out often. Oh, but then they would never be able to play, or run, or go outside. They should be very sad.”

“I’ve been very well, thank you, Princess Rhaenys. And how have you fared?”

“Oh Rose, you know you don’t have to call me princess. We’re cousins, remember? We don’t have to address each other so properly. I’ve been well. These past few months have been hard, but I’m well now.”

“No - and soon we shall have our own children! I must confess I’m a little frightened. Having a baby is wonderful and important, yes, but I don’t look forward to going through childbirth!”

“I’m sure that is still some time away for me. Rhaella has to be betrothed and married before I’ll ever see a match. No one ever seems to be ready for childbirth. Aunt Dany told me she was terrified in the days before she gave birth to the twins. I suppose one can only hope for the best.”

Not at the moment, but I’m sure I will soon. Valaena is just over a year old, after all. Though I do miss being able to hold her with her trying to squirm and crawl away.

Why so enamored  with these particular children tho?

I was there when they were born. I held them in my arms minutes after they were born. They are beautiful. How could I not be enamored by them?

Oh and it happens much too fast. I barely have any little ones left. All of my little are running around the castle yelling “No!” all day long.

Oh, I can’t imagine that! They’re still so little. I’ve never really liked children, but they’re special to me. Do you miss having little ones around Dragonstone?

“I know, watching over children can be so nice. They don’t do anything, but they’re adorable, even if they’re just waving their little hands in the air and babbling.”

“You must do the same with little Mini in Winterfell. I just wish they could stay like this forever.”
