ABOUT.

Was raised in the little village of Llanbedrog in North Wales to two loving parents, Helena and David. He was adopted by David shortly after his mother married him in 1985, as sadly Rhys’s biological father passed away when he was only three months old.

He spent most of his childhood years causing chaos and getting muddy on the family farm or the beach.

When he hit high school he became kind of obsessed with rugby and decided early on he wanted to play for Wales, to take them to the World Cup in his twenties. Unfortunately an accident in his final year of high school that left him with several broken bones and unconscious meant that he had to rethink his whole plan.

It didn’t take long for a thirst to escape to take over and he started applying for colleges overseas. Finally he was accepted to New York Medical College and he made the move without a second thought. That’s where his life really began.

He drank his way through his first year. Hangovers became part of the daily routine, as did waking up next to people he barely recognised.

By 3/4 of the way through his second year he finally began to focus and chose to specialise in pediatrics.

Relationships really didn’t happen for him, but he was extremely good at lapping up any attention he got. Man-whore really is a very kind way of putting it.

At twenty-five he found himself with a job at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in Manhattan. He loved it, seemed to thrive there and for over five years, too. But then he grew restless and after a years debate, decided that perhaps a move somewhere else in the country was on the cards, so settled in New Mexico.

Only days after moving, he received a phone call out of nowhere telling him that he was a dad. She was already six, the product of a long standing friends with benefits arrangement with a woman in his forth year. It didn’t take much for him to fall in love with Elena once he hopped a flight back to the East coast, though, spending several days with her.

As soon as he was back in Roswell, he set about doing his home up. Her existence really gave him something to focus on.

Now that Elena’s 16 she visits regularly, spending all of her vacation time with him.

HEADCANONS.

Rhys is a major “lad”. He’ll spend night after night at the bar drinking beer, playing pool, watching sports on the big screen tv. The Wild Pony is his regular hangout. 

Upon moving to Roswell and having more space he started to create a bit of a backyard farm. His rooster, Buddy, frequently wakes up the neighbours and he has a kind of love/hate relationship with them. He also has three hens, a pig and a goat.

Absolutely loves to garden. When he’s not in the backyard tending to the animals, you can usually find him elbow deep in dirt in his front yard instead.

He’s still a major man-whore and it probably won’t change any time soon.

Despite his casualness with romantic relationships, etc. he’s a very fierce friend and cares deeply for everyone he’s close to. He’d do absolutely anything for them.

It was an amusing sight seeing a grown man running after a chicken. So much so that Reyna couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene - something the man evidently took notice.  For a moment they considered “I think I would prefer to spectate, thank you very much.” Reyna replied with a grin. “But say I do give you a hand…What’s in it for me?” So much for being a good Samaritan Of course. A mischievous glint in their eye as they began to roll up their sleeves, making their way over to assist. The question was made mostly in jest but Reyna couldn’t help but try to get something out of this. It was in her nature. Some called it bitchy , they called it crafty . “I’ve never caught a chicken before but every time my cat tries to run from me I just stand still and try to tempt him with a toy or food. Wanna give that a try?” 

The question wasn’t a surprising one and Rhys shrugged his shoulders. “What’s in it for you? I can offer you some coffee and cake? Don’t know what else...” he answered them with a laugh. At the follow up question, he nodded, offering a small smile. “We could try that.” Even if the only food he could offer was poultry pellets. “I’ll have to go and grab something. You think you can keep an eye on her for a minute? Try and usher her that way...” He pointed idly in the direction he’d be heading.

alara didn’t think she could see anything weirder in her entire life. But here she was, simply shocked and fixated in place watching the man run after the hen. “You want me to help? Can I do both?” She’d been trying to hide her laughter but it was getting to a point where she could barely do so given that hot tears were streaming down her face. “I don’t know what you’d like me to do or how I can help.” She didn’t really want to touch the chicken in fear of losing some fingers or an eye but if she could try to steer it in his direction than she was willing to do that as long as she didn’t have to pick it up.

The question was considered for several moments, the expression on Rhys’s face becoming thoughtful. “Okay, both could work... for now,” he answered, the lightest of laughs escaping. As she continued, the considered exactly what she could do, knowing how the idea of trying to catch a chicken would probably freak most people out. “If you can just kind of try and herd her towards me, if we can got her cornered between us, I’ll grab her.”

she’d watched the chicken give its owner a run for his money for longer than she should have. the problem was, wylie was a cross between entertained and wanting to help, and unfortunately for the three of them, the former was winning out. so there she was, hand pressed to her mouth to hide a giggle as the chicken passed by her ankles once more. “look, i’m sorry. but the last thing i expected to see while bringing one of my students home was a runaway chicken. it looks like she’s getting the best of you right now, but i’d be happy to help.” however, just as the blonde moved towards the farm animal, she watched as it bolted away, leaving her stand there with her mouth open. “spry little thing, isn’t she?”

The laughter was okay, Rhys couldn’t have blamed anyone for it, not really. But still, if anyone did want to help it would be a weight off his shoulders, because today things didn’t seem to be going his way exactly —- in fact, it felt like was the tip of the iceberg, he’d had enough. “I don’t suppose anyone expects to see that,” he responded. “Round here I guess you’d be less surprised to stumble across a UFO.” A nod and he laughed, heavy sigh escaping him. “She... is. Or a nightmare. One or the other.”

The last thing Beth had expected to witness whilst rolling around Roswell was her niece’s paediatrician chasing after a– is that a chicken?

She’s stopped, of course; she’s also slipped her phone from her pocket to document the otherwise unfathomable display. Her eyes are on the screen when Rhys looks up, though she does nothing to hide the fact that she’s very plainly recording him.

Beth lifts her head a few inches and finally meets Rhys’ gaze with her own, one glinting with amusement.

“Yeah, okay,” she shrugs. Her thumb taps to end the recording and she pockets the device, heel of her foot smacking into the end of her skateboard so that she can catch it on its jerky way up. “Pretty sure I got the money shot, so.”

“How do we do this?”

The laughter wasn’t at all surprising, Rhys had known it would happen. So for a moment he simply let it happen, just stood there and chuckled lightly, crossing his arms casually over his chest. Recognising the one before him as Jaden’s younger sister, he offered a smile, and then tilted his head thoughtfully. “I’m thinking the easiest really is a case you go one way, I’ll go the other, hopefully we’ll corner her somewhere in the middle,” he responded simply.

*    🍉    it  was  quite  the  show.  as  the  animal-handler  down  at  puhlman  ranch,  lyla  jane  had  her  fair  share  of  run-ins  with  runaway  hens  and  knew  how  insanely  frustrating  it  could  be.  and  yet  she  couldn’t  hold  in  her  laugh  at  watching  rhys,  who  always  seemed  so  well  put  together  even  during  the  drunk  rendezvous  they  shared  at   the  wild  pony,  running  around  so  silly  like  with  a  crouched  frame  and  extended  arms.  ❛  okay,  okay… ❜  lyla  sing-songs,  doing  her  best  to  stifle  the  laughs  that  threatened  passage  from  her  lips.  ❛  and  what  do  i  get  in  return  for  my  help?  ❜  the  woman  teases,  a  natural  flirt,  though  unintentionally,  who  had  every  intention  of  helping  without  the  need  of  a  reward. 

Spotting Lyla up ahead, it was almost as though his prayers had been answered —- she was, quite possibly, the perfect person to be heading towards him right now. Okay, Rhys would have preferred it to be different circumstances, as always, but there wasn’t much that he could do about that. At the question that followed her reluctant agreement, a smirk appeared on his features, however, and then he shrugged his shoulders. “You can have whatever you like...” he answered her, approaching the hen once more.

with the neighbourhoods backing on to one another , jaden often navigated throughout lunar crescent to find his way to jupiter valley . he was still settling into normality , getting back to cohabiting with his fiancée ( if they were even still engaged ) and his daughter ( if she even still remembered him ) . something that didn’t help his integration back to the present was the sight of a chicken ; in disbelief , thinking it was a mirage or a medication-induced hallucination , he stared at the clucking creature until rhys’ — the very face that had checked his daughter over for her initial shots and doctor visit — words nudged him from his stupor . “ do i get any explanation ?? “ the male questioned , crouching and opening his arms in an attempt to catch the escaped poultry . 

Realising after several moments that the person heading his way was actually Jaden, Rhys let a breath go and held his hands out in defeat for a moment. “The only explanation I have is that she escaped...” he admitted. “That’s it, that’s all there is.” A light laugh. “I’ve been chasing her for over half an hour now.” It was ridiculous really, but he had, had worse days, once chasing a pig around town. It was his own fault for filling his backyard with animals, he really did only have himself to blame.

“is both an option?” a small smirk appeared on sora’s lips as he continued to watch the show playing out in front of him, before finally relenting and tossing rhys a bone, deciding to see what he could do to help the guy out. “you go left, i’ll go right. maybe we can get her caught in the middle of us.” he didn’t know too much about chickens, but it seemed like a better idea than the two of them chasing her around in circles. 

A slight huff escaped Rhys, but it was accompanied by a laugh and he nodded his head in response. Both was definitely an option and more than likely the one that would happen so matter who came down the street. “Don’t think I can actually stop you,” he admitted, tilting his head a moment in thought. At the suggestion of a plan, he took another step forward. “Probably the only way this is going to happen. I’ll grab her, I just need help to corner her.”

genevieve was never one to shy away from a performance, even if that’s not something she saw herself doing for the rest of her life. to write and sing her songs was nothing but a hobby for her, something that she didn’t have to think too much about, something to help her release tension and feelings she’s bottled up. but some nights, all she wanted was to sit down, grab herself a drink and enjoy other people’s acts for a change. “why, thank you. it’s always nice to be recognized for something you assume to have some sort of talent in.” she jokes, bowing her head in his direction. “yeah, not all weeks are good ones but that’s just life. what are we drinking to make ourselves feel a little better tonight?”

Rhys had to laugh at her reaction, his expression softening as he did. A moment later he took another sip of his drink, amusement apparent on his features now as she spoke. “Well, anytime...” He tipped the drink in her direction, casting a brief glance to the glass in question and pursing his lips very slightly. “Good question. This is... a cocktail they christened Out Of This World. Praying it lives up to its name,” he answered easily.

            “Yeah, she might.” Poppy smiled at his words, not knowing exactly what more to say to him. It was different from them; she didn’t have children, he did. To fully know and understand the love from a parent to child was still unknown concept to Poppy. Yes, of course she knew it was the strongest one, but to fully comprehend it, one had to become a parent themselves. “You’ve got time." 

A nod of contemplation followed on Rhys’s behalf, then he gave her hand a quick squeeze and got to his feet. “Anyway, this is just putting off the inevitable, didn’t you say you were ready to meet Buddy?” he queried lightly, teasing her gently. “Let’s not put that off any longer if you’ve gone and built yourself up to it. I’ll have you feeding them all by the end of the day.”

           Shrugging, Dylan continued to listen to his brother, though he wouldn’t be surprised if Rhys harbored thoughts about moving to back Wales someday. “You do realize that Elena will soon go to college and will leave both you and Nora? I mean, we left Wales to go to college in New York.. I don’t think our parents, especially mom was too happy to have two of her kids so far away, but she still let us go.” Despite the fact that Rhys was actually his half-brother, Dylan had never seen him as such, nor he ever would. Rhys was his brother, that was it. “She’s about to start her own life, Rhys.” 

“Yeah yeah. I know.” Rhys knew very well, kept having people remind him of that fact in recent weeks. Although there was always a chance she wouldn’t, it wasn’t as though every teen headed off to college, she might stick around Roswell or even choose to travel the world —- it was still a couple of years off yet, though, still decisions to be made. “Don’t need reminding.” Own life or not, there were always times kids needed their parents, even after they’d left home.

Even if she wasn’t great at talking, and communicating, and dealing with people, she still hated coming off as rude, even if she pretended like she didn’t care most of the time. “Everything is still new for me, but I like it here.”

"In Roswell?” Rhys figured that was the question she was asking seeing as the alternative didn’t really open up much in the way of conversation —- if she even wanted to talk to him, that was. “Ten years give or take,” he answered her. “Been in the States for twenty-one years now.” Something he still couldn’t quite believe. Time had this way of speeding up as you got older. “You liking the town?”

The whole thing was ridiculous and the expression on his face was only becoming more and more frustrated as the seconds ticked by. Rhys had days where things similar to this happened, but it was usually over pretty quickly, he’d dart past the gate, make a grab for the escape livestock and have them back in his backyard in less than a minute. Today, however, it felt as though he’d been chasing this particular hen around and around the cul-de-sac for over half an hour. He’d stopped to take a breath, hands on his knees, leaning down slightly, when he spotted someone. “You can help or you can laugh... but help really would be preferred...” he offered, smile on his face weak.

there were inked etchings all over fletcher liu , from his knuckles to the tops of his feet , the scars he chose to inflict upon himself at a premium price — he trusted nobody with his body but the artists at black box and so , standing with biceps crossed over his chest , he scanned the sheets of flash pinned to the inside of the window , eyes narrowed in consideration . eventually he’d run out of space , tainting every inch of skin with hanzi characters or scripture holding relevance only to him . for now , though , he revelled in the spontaneity of entering the store without prior thought to what he’d emerge with . nudging an elbow against his fellow flash aficionado , fletcher spoke : “ what do you think i should get ?? i’ll entertain anything but the playboy bunny , “

“That’s it then, ruined all my plans, I figured you could pull that off,” answered Rhys casually, glancing up from the book of designs he’d been scrolling through on his phone —- always had to appreciate an online portfolio. “You’re going for something random then? You don’t want any kind of meaning behind this one... you know, other than blaming someone else for it if it’s a fuck up and you hate it?” He hadn’t picked up a tattoo himself for years, the only one adorning his skin the one that he’d had designed as a tribute to his daughter. Didn’t mean he didn’t constantly consider another though.

“i’m of the belief that it doesn’t matter how old they are, your kids will always be your babies. caspian will be in his twenties and i’ll still pinch and kiss his cheeks because he’s so handsome i can’t help it.” noa laughed at her own comment, eyes glancing in the direction of her son, who had now distracted himself thoroughly. however, rhys’s comment made her shake her head, smile turned in his direction now as she motioned for him to follow. “at this rate, he’ll probably be glad to have a man around. mia and i do our best, but even i have to admit he needs a break every now and again.”

"My problem is that I still can’t believe my daughter’s two years away from heading to college,” Rhys admitted, laughing a little. “I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been pulled up on it recently and reminded.” Was it because he hadn’t been around for her whole life? It all seemed a little quick, difficult to get his head around. There was nothing that could be done about it, though, the past was the past. “But we’re allowed to a certain degree, right?” He smiled at her words and nodded in understanding. “Well, let’s get going then, see what this place has to offer!”

*   🌿  when  adelaide  was  given  the  heads  up  that  some  of  the  kids  were  coming  from  the  hospital,  the  desire  to  make  it  all  the  more  special  nearly  overwhelmed  the  book  owner.  instead  of  arriving  at  ten  in  the  morning  to  make  preparations,  she  had  shown  up  four  hours  earlier  —  adding  decorations,  buying  more  refreshments,  and  stuffing  more  goodies  into  the  goodie  bags.  rhys  words  brought  her  intense  happiness  and  relief.    ❛  i  just  want  it  to  be  special  for  them, but  it  makes  me  really  happy  to  know  that  they  are  really  happy.  and  the  doctor’s  happy  to,  right?  ❜  adelaide  smiles,  giving  him  a  slight  nudge.  

“Doesn’t take all that much to please me,” Rhys countered with a laugh. “Although I probably shouldn’t advertise that all that much.” Honestly, he could tell that she’d made an amazing effort today, to make sure that everything was as perfect as it could be. He didn’t know what she could possibly be worrying about in that moment, though he supposed he did the same when it came to anything other than what he did for a living. He’d panic over everything else and whether it was up to scratch. “I’d say they’re pretty happy, though, nothing to worry about here.”

          “I don’t think stepping down will ever happen for us.” But one could hope, and she did, just as she was hoping for many other things.. but hospital was their life. “Yeah, she could, but,” a soft smile appeared, “you do realize that by then she’ll very likely have her own life?” Look at Poppy, from an avid horseback rider all the way to the woman who hadn’t ridden since her youth.. one change of many.

“Probably not. Unless I take early retirement.” Something that was certainly appealing to him. Rhys chuckled lightly at her comment and nodded in agreement. “Oh, I know, but gonna prepare for every eventuality, right? She might need somewhere to keep ‘em.” Plus it was excuse to see her a ridiculous amount even when she moved out...or possibly away.
