MOODBOARD FOR WHEN SHIT IS FUCK
My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".

the slut is back !?
Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!
slimy to the moon
Are you a member of a labor union?
Yes, and I am an active participant
Yes, but I'm not very active
I used to be, but am not currently
No, because I don't want to be
No, because there isn't one at my job/in my area
No, because I don't know how/need help
No, because I'm unemployed
No, because I'm not eligible to join
Do you want to be a union member?
If you're interested in unionizing, check out the Industrial Workers of the World! We accept members of other unions (except officers), students, retirees, the unemployed, the self-employed and freelance, and those in informal professions. Those unable to work may also join. To us, you are all working class.
The IWW is closed to bosses, and anyone who has the power to hire or fire employees. The IWW also does not permit any law enforcement officers, prison guards, or landlords. These positions undermine the power of the working class and are not considered workers by the IWW.
Join the IWW today!
weird that this is happening all across the usa at the same time. oh well. probably doesn't mean anything.
Help Olivia get her job back at Central City Concern and Stop the Call Center!
Today I was terminated from my job as a Health Assistant at a low income health clinic and refused my full paycheck upon dismissal, offered yesterday only an incomplete paycheck for my paid leave. This union-busting, retaliatory dismissal comes on the heels of us demanding an end to the Call Center move for the clinics! I was the only union steward of color at the Old Town Clinic and the only Health Assistant union steward. I had no escalatory disciplinary history and was abruptly terminated for private discussions with union members I counseled against our employer.
I was refused a steward at my initial hearing and had to fight bitterly to be allowed a rep at all.
Who I am: A mother, a Salvadoran refugee, a long-term resident of Portland, a queer woman married to a trans woman, a union steward (the only steward of color at the clinic), an elected member of my union local’s executive board, an organizer, the last standing connection between our local and the Labor Committee to Defend Immigrants since my wife (and author of our local’s anti-deportation resolution to be considered at our union’s international convention in August) was terminated in March for antiracism and is awaiting to hear back if the union will take her case towards arbitration or not. She has struggled to find openings even for low wage entry level work. Now are both unemployed while raising an infant baby during the worst economic downturn we’ve ever seen.
We both worked to provide services to the homeless but our organization is committing to waves of mass layoffs at the exact moment homelessness and adult+childhood poverty are at an all time historic high. Now we face the prospect of homelessness ourselves.
If you want your healthcare managed by AI and call centers, look away. If you hate union-busting and want to know who is speaking to you about your private health information, share and sign.
Please share, even if you are not in Portland. If you care about immigrants, if you care about mothers, if you care about workers rights, if you care about boots on the ground stopping AI and ending racism in the workplace, please sign and bring attention to this and let people know what we need.
Portland and our homeless, houseless, and impoverished communities deserve real healthcare, not robotic, dissociated garbage. My family will be homeless and other workers will be next.

Please help by signing and sharing this petition we’re passing around to my wife’s coworkers to get her job back!
Let this employer know their retaliatory actions against a union steward of color is not acceptable to the public!
Personally if I was this employer, I wouldn’t be retaliating against anyone when HR is already documented retaliating against other workers of color for reporting racism but I guess the details on that one will have to come out later.
We’ve been given permission to speak about the subject I hinted at. Because it was an ongoing case and union business I didn’t want to go into detail but since the employee involved has stated they are comfortable with us sharing I want to give more detail.
Olivia represented an employee and person of color who was retaliated against in a recorded meeting the employee had requested. The meeting was supposed to address racist comments about Asians including mocking accents made by a coworker of that employee. Instead HR retaliated against him for making the reports and attempted to violate his union rights by transforming that meeting he had called into an investigation of him for discriminating against his coworker by calling them racist but without any prior notice of an investigatory meeting. It was by chance he had a steward present. From Olivia’s statement she added to the petition:
Racism should not be tolerated by an organization that receives public funds and serves the community. It is deeply concerning that employees of color cannot voice their concerns about racism at the workplace to HR without then being accused of discrimination in the meeting that employee called to address the racism they had witnessed and experienced. This was not an investigation of the employee but a meeting the employee called to begin an investigation yet HR was hostile to this employee and shamed them for making reports on behavior that violates company policy. I was called into this meeting because although the employee was the one to request it they felt they had received little support from management who at lower levels had belittled their concerns. Employees should not be shamed for making reports on discriminatory behavior. I represented this employee the same day management attempted to call me into a disciplinary meeting while refusing me steward representation.
SO the plot thickens! CCC is now permanently banning me from all services and buildings for the crime of organizing in the union. They claim without source or evidence that since 7/23/26 I “returned to CCC property” and “made threats towards staff” at the Old Town Clinic. This is impossible as I have not stepped foot anywhere near the Old Town Clinic since 7/23/26, and have been instead exclusively stuck caring for my young baby (who they denied me maternity leave for) and moving (you know, because housing can abruptly change when you get retaliated against).
It is worth noting: there are literal nazis with swastika tattoos who have assaulted staff who HAVE NOT received these this kind of ban. A ban like this is virtually unheard of when it comes to violence against minorities, women, trans people, immigrants, workers, or union members. But completely fabricated allegations against women of color and immigrants leap to complete, all-service encompassing life-long bans - despite CCC holding dozens of contracts with the county and the city and holding a monopoly on low-income services that a young mother of color could need in Portland.
They have to leap to the highest form of discipline on union organizers with fabricated, unspecified narratives because if they don’t they risk the workers organizing with previously terminated employees, and they risk impoverished employees turning into clients and patients that they then need to answer to.
We want them to know: over 340 community members, patients, workers, and organizers are watching them and are not buying it. If every person who REBLOGS OR LIKES this post ACTUALLY SIGNS IT - it will send a message to Central City Concern:
This will not happen in the dark. You are being watched. The community knows what you are doing to its most vulnerable members.

It appears CCC hasn’t even informed all of their HR that this letter was sent, as evident in their suggestion that Olivia can pick up her items at any time, after she was permanently banned from all locations.
We fear additional retaliation in the shadows which is why I responded to this email:
With this email that absolutely triggered an emergency all HR meeting and likely a conversation with their organizational lawyer:
I receive care as a patient at one of their facilities, the same facility Olivia worked at, and this is my closest and currently only access to medical care I have. Further retaliation against my family would not just mean continued financial hits but could potentially mean being cut off from low income services in our immediate area, services I rely upon for mental health, ADHD treatment and transition care.
Olivia has been dedicated to her family since her firing, becoming a full time mom alongside me, and because of our move where we pulled 12+ hour days, has simply not been outside of our building which includes security cameras.
Please contact the number in the letter to DEMAND evidence (time, date, location, details of incident and camera footage) be released by CCC and failing to provide any, must immediately rescind their libelous exclusion AND release a public apology addressed directly to Olivia on ALL official CCC communication platforms for making these false claims without evidence.
We are truly brow beaten and trying to get our phones paid off along with getting some baby Tylenol. This has been a long and grueling trudge for us, a Salvadoran mother with a sick baby, my wife a Jewish trans woman, both of us union organizers who have been targeted at work and lost our jobs in the local nonprofit sector as austerity measures in escalate the whittling away of Portland homeless services during a historic high in evictions and adult poverty.
I have several job leads and interviews coming up. Our baby has an ear infection and is teething. She is crying. I need to keep our phones turned on to ensure we get work.
If you have extra money and want to contribute to our union survival fund we are still trying to collect unemployment.
