-300lb deadlift (Chasing it pretty hard right now. Think I’m really close.)
12/25/2016 I was “really close” all year but due to the roller coaster that is lifting and then surgery I only JUST BARELY made this goal. Still my biggest accomplishment this year especially after having major surgery.
-Be braver with my squats. 2x bodyweight or bust (probably my most ambitious goal…)
I was definitely braver with my squats this year. Took on 225 on the platform in April at my meet and on New Years Eve I did it again but this time for a beltless double. Still a huge way away from that 2x bodyweight squat but expect big things this year.
-200+lb bench I’m coming for you too
After hitting “185″ back last December when I used to lift with the guys I thought 200 was right around the corner for me. Last January when Nate took over my programming we quickly discovered that I was (unfortunately) heavily assisted on that 185 press. So a 200lb bench didn’t happen in 2016 but my bench is cleaner than ever and hopefully it’s closer than I think it is.
-Compete in April with confidence. I know I’m not the best or the strongest but I’m going give it my all
I competed in April with a lot of confidence. The majority of my competition nerves were in control and I did give it my all, and came out on top as the strongest in my weight class. So definitely a win
-Go 9/9 in April but if you do miss a lift make it worth it
Definitely did not go 9/9 in April. But I am still super happy with my performance for my first ever powerlifting meet. Here’s to some 9/9 meets in 2017!
-Keep this momentum going
This one is a “sort of accomplished”. Momentum was going REALLY well until the tumor was discovered. So I kinda had to back track but now the momentum is back with a vengeance and I am ready to attack 2017 full force
This one did not happen. Not even a little bit. Scheduling conflicts with my trainer created problems in the Spring and then the tumor took me out of commission all summer and Liz hasn’t contacted me since last year. Hopefully Nancy and I will keep the Thoroughbred boys going all winter and that’ll be nice.
It was looking sketchy there for a while. Very negative because ya know, tumor. But I am so much more positive now. I am enjoying the process of getting stronger and even my bad training days don’t put me in a bad mood like they used to. It has given me a whole new perspective on what I’m doing and I am happy.
I both did and didn’t do this. I took a hell of a lot more videos. Particularly of my training. And I’ve been trying to take more pictures of myself and my surroundings and things that make me happy. It’s going well.
-Stop comparing myself to others
I still catch myself doing this every now and then. But I have worked really hard on removing myself from toxic atmospheres (limiting my Tumblr usage has definitely factored into this) and remembering that lifting isn’t about anyone else. It’s about me and the weights. I don’t need to be the best or the strongest I just need to make myself happy and get stronger.
This is a perpetual goal really but I definitely added some quality muscle mass this year and hope this continues because I am loving it.
Updated my ancient goals post to reflect what happened this year. Because 2016 is over. Was able to just barely scrape in some last PRs right at the end of the year. Commentary in bold. Time to set some new goals.
