I think making your Drifter a different gender than your operator is the funniest thing you can do. Because not only is your Operator finding out that there are alternate realities, but also because it's just the "We are you from the future" comic.

i spent a few hours trying to tell my tenno oc's story to a friend who didn't play wf... and gave up because I couldn't really tell it without writing a whole novel preemptively answering questions about the circumstances and why they were this way-- why they were tryna go to tau in the first place, why were the colonists rebel, why did the orokin rush it when they spent so much time and effort on the whole thing, are they stupid? why did the parents go mad and try to kill the kids? why was there a malicious entity in the void, why do the warframes exist, why was there a faction of sentient ais trying to wage war against humanity? etc etc.

This is so true, Warframe can be explained in a linear way (timeline-wise) but it will take patience from a non-wf player to try to understand everything before you can finally get to your ocs.....

Warframe's story feels like a fractal. While you can take it in using broad strokes, it feels infinitely expandable. You can zoom in and in and in, finding more and more minutiae that will invariably clarify the broader strokes but just add another question to the forever growing pile. Which makes you go digging deeper!

It feels like a universe purpose built to fit you and your OC's, whoever they are, wherever they are. It's so expansive that they can find their place in the story, or outside of the story, no matter who they are.

It do make things a bit difficult to folks who've never actually played the game before though, since it's a story whose broad strokes are best experienced, not explained.
