You smile and ask me how I am feeling today and you look so hopeful that I feel a need to conceal the deflating feeling in my chest and force what I hope looks like an earnest half smile as I tell you, “I’m doing okay,” in the most assuring tone I can possibly muster; sometimes, it is just so much easier to veil the paroxysms in my bones, to shield the ache in my eyes and silence the demons screaming in my mind…
