Frankenstein #3
in cowardice or carelessness,
I evolved
the natural enthusiasm of the human mind
supernatural superstition
darkness had no churchyard
beauty and food for the worm
I beheld the bloom of pause
and all the light
broke in on me.

I’m tired. I wrote a poem about it.
As the weeks of social distancing progress, I’ve found my way back into writing fan fiction. I have a few in-progress works I plan to finish this year, and I published the gfirst chapter of a Labyrinth fanfic idea I’ve had in my docs for awhile. Enjoy 💜

Frankenstein #1
this fiction has been a work of weaving,
of spectres and passions commanding their humble novelist
to adopt exquisite feeling,
to mingle virtue and regret.
I passed the season blazing with ghosts,
in imitation of friends left,
a journey among the lost.
I’ve been telling myself for most of my life that I can’t draw. But apparently I was just lacking the appropriate medium. I did not know I could sketch until I busted this out in Procreate tonight when I got the idea for a Tolkien branch/magnolia bloom mashup tattoo.
I put together a batch of blackout poetry kits this weekend. I thought others might like to document their journey in social distancing with this unique form of journaling and poetry. Check out my Etsy store - the kits are ready to ship, and I’ll be adding several more loose page listings in the next few days!

Masque of the Red Death #2
phantasms may well have hearts,
even with life shrouded in the grave,
so near, and yet, so far.
the features spectral, slow and solemn,
seen in the first moment but in the next, hushed.
a pale intruder, unimpeded,
and mad with the moment.
six chambers of extremity.
a sharp gleaming, then, the courage of despair.
The Masque of the Red Death #1
The Red Death had long devastated the country.
The scarlet stains were dauntless,
a strong and lofty wall,
resolved to leave means neither of ingress nor egress,
amply provisioned.
The external world could take care of itself.
The Red Seclusion,
tall and narrow, a closed corridor,
gaudy and fantastic,
blood-tinted
and
wild.
devaluing life in Frankenstein #1
This turn in thinking
admits only that history truly valued:
life over suffering.
This light is the monster,
a being valued for creation
but losing the truth.
The nature of fear, that madness,
the danger and concern for the world.
*I got distracted in my layering of this piece and lost a couple of words. Lesson learned - pay attention when you’re working with layers!
tarr & feather #1
a great fool interposed with a bottle
and went off with a pop and a fizz.
I thought the tongue created an imitation of pleasing,
but that conversation was an ignoramus
who mistook himself for a heart.
if that man was
a glass or two of wine,
then I would have been lost in the genius of man.
I have no doubt there was a very singular part
eating at that gentleman.
one party with two heads,
the mouth convinced of his being in the right.

the birthmark #1
and what is so beautiful,
a precious lifetime of strength?
or is that dearest beauty a ghost?
your demands go deeper,
strange,
indefinite,
creeping,
half pain, half heart.
a crimson stamp upon
the tedium of hours.
I ripped this page out of my ex-psychiatrist’s self-published self-help book. My work is better than the original, trust me on this.
