rileyadams:
Riley frowned, not sure what to make of the man’s background. In a way, he might have been better off without a father and she was reminded of how much a father would impact her life. Sure, she was old enough to have more control but he was her father. What did that even mean at this age? Riley had been fine without a father and she was happy so she wasn’t sure she even wanted one to shake things up. Now that the possibility was more real, she was regretting not putting more thought into it.
“Are you sure he will?” She couldn’t help but be somewhat self-conscious. She was a charmer and endlessly seductive. She knew that men loved her, but her usual techniques were rather inappropriate in this case so she wasn’t as sure anymore. Strip away that attractive confidence and what was she really? Why was she even scared? She was never scared dealing with people. “Mom, what if he hates me? I’m not exactly perfect. I’m not sure I can do this anymore…” Riley walked around with confidence and poise so it was rare for her to actually sound unsure but she never hid anything from her mother and was always willing to be vulnerable around her—the one woman she knew would always protect her.
.
Katherine placed the hammer down, and moved to hug Riley, she never saw her daughter like that, worried, the look almost broke her heart, no one was capable of hating Riley, not even David hated her, and he had more reason than anyone else for that. She placed a kiss on top Riley head and gave her total attention to her daughter, the docks could wait a little longer.
“I know he’s not going to hate you. There was a time I thought he was going to hate me.” She admitted, it was weird to tell those feelings out loud, but if it could help Riley to understand her father a little better. “Your father always wanted to fall in love and have a family of his own, so when we start to have feelings for each other, I was sure he was going to hate me because he would have to give up his dream, I would have a family with someone else while people in town would say he was doing this for money or statues or whatever lie they came up with. Even knowing all this, all he did was smile, kiss me and promise me that he would always be by my side and that he had a new dream.” all this felt like a lifetime ago. “You’re his family, you’re his daughter, you’re the realization of our love for each other and his dream coming true, it is impossible for him to hate you.” Kate smiled at Riley.
Riley leaned into the hug, not caring that her mother was probably covered in who-knows-what building materials. Her mom already promised her a new dress so anything else could be easily washed off. She listened as her mother described meeting her father and frowned, unable to imagine what kind of struggle that was for him to be with her. To love someone so much that they were willing to give up their life-long dream for that person. She understood duty and necessity, but not sacrifice when one didn’t need to.
“I guess neither of us were what he wanted but he loved you anyway.” The man clearly had a big heart but there was only one way to truly answer her question and it was to meet him. “Which reminds me,” she pulled away, meeting her mother’s eyes. “How does David feel about all of this?” She wanted to make sure her mom was okay too and that it wouldn’t hurt her relationship with her husband. “It can’t be easy for him. I know I was hard enough to accept.” It was one thing to accept the child of another man from the woman you love, it’s another to accept that same man who was the one she loved prior.
kate-avery:
Kate chuckled. “Yes, he’s a noble.” Sometimes she forgot about how much Riley didn’t know about her father, she truly had closed herself of all those memories and haven’t shared much with Riley. “Once his mother passed away, his father had a hard time accepting it.” That was sugar coding, to say the least. “After losing most of the things, your father had to start working, and life wasn’t that easy for him.” Which was why Kate fell in love with him, he wasn’t a perfect dress noble, he was fun to be around, he understood what truly mattered in life.
She took a deep breath and nodded it. “You’re right. Why did I raise you to be this smart.” Kate joked around, it wouldn’t be easy, but the truth was always better. “One thing I know is that he’s going to love you.” She said with a warm smile, he might, he shock to learn that he had a daughter, and a little sad that he didn’t got to see her growing up, but he would love Riley no matter what.

kate-avery:
Kate was happy to see Riley surprise. “He is.” Kate nodded. “As much as I would love to take credit for finding him, turns out he was on the island already.” She told Riley. “I saw him at the festival, he’s working as a mechanic now.” Which explained why they haven’t bumped into each other sooner, if he was working at a club, Riley would have seen him already. “No, he’s not here right now.” Kate told Riley, letting the hammer go and grabbing the hand of her daughter, she looked into her eyes. “I need you to remember what I told you before, he doesn’t remember us.” Kate said with a sad look, taking with Darius had been very hard on her and the memory still hurt. “I kinda lied and told him he looked like someone I knew.” Kate almost never took the easy way out, this was actually the first time she did because every time she opened her mouth, the words didn’t come out. “But we can tell him if you want… I… I can tell him.” Or them, she wanted Riley to have a say in this. “What you want to do now, is up to you.”
Riley scrunched her nose a bit at the mechanic part. What could she say? She was a spoiled snob. “Isn’t he a noble though?” Did he do it as a hobby? Riley didn’t even bring her car to a mechanic let alone get her hands dirty with maintaining one. Her mani-pedis didn’t maintain themselves after all and the last thing they needed was engine grease coating them.
When Kate refocused her attention, she nodded. “I remember, mom. I don’t know him anyway so it’s probably easier for me to deal with it.” He was a stranger in every way to her so their dynamic wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary if they met now. Her mom was the one with all the heart-wrenching memories of him. They had to be painful because it wasn’t like her mom to dance around the subject if politics weren’t involved.
At her offer, Riley took a few seconds. “I think you should tell him, mom,” she answered. “I’m not exactly sensitive with my words and I don’t know him like you do.” She didn’t know how he would react and truthfully, part of her worried that his reaction would hurt more than she expected it would. It could sour their relationship going forward through no fault of either of them. He needed time to process it and having to deal with her after just finding out is a lot. She knew she was a lot.
kate-avery:
Katherine smiled, she was always glad to spend some time with Riley, even being sure that this was the last place her daughter wanted to be, as much as Kate would love to take a break to check on everyone and go see how much Riley had changed Jeremiah’s place, this was more effective.
“I will buy you as many dresses as you want.” Kate said, one of the things she loved to do was to shop with Riley, her daughter had an impeccable fashion sense after all. “And maybe we can get you something for you to meet your father.”
“My what?” The smile on her face melted away to reveal both confusion and mild dread. She knew she was the one that brought it up and said that she wanted to meet him but what? Already? It had only been a month or two and her mother already found him? She wasn’t expecting to meet him for years! Months was way too soon. “Are you telling me he’s on the island?” How did one even prepare to meet their biological father who they hadn’t seen since they were born... over a hundred years ago? She ran her hand through her perfectly straightened hair, suddenly stressed at the prospect. “He’s not here is he?” Her eyes darted around. She definitely wasn’t ready for that.
jeremiahxwallace:
“Your mother is a great woman, took a long time for David to even be willing to see that. I’m glad she was there for you at least.” And he meant that, knowing his soon to be wife wouldn’t have turned out the way she did if her upbringing had been different. Jer smiled, taking a sip from his glass while he listened to her speak, in a way he felt relieved she saw it the same way he did.
Due to their difference in age, he wasn’t sure at first how much they[’d be able to see eye to eye on things, but so far it just seemed to work out somehow. Though he hated to admit it, David and Kate might have been right with this match, as he knew it could’ve been much worse. “We’ll see how far that will be in the future, might be sooner than you think. Oh yes, you’re such a child.” He couldn’t help but smirk, just mocking her right back. “I have no worries about you being a good mother one day though, seeing how you are with your little brother. It’s like it just comes to you naturally. First time I held a baby I was afraid to even move, David is lucky I didn’t accidentally drop him on his head.” He said with a chuckle, taking some more of his plate that he had now filled with food and making sure the glasses remained filled.
Riley scrunched her face, kind of skeptical. “No offence, but sometimes I think David would have faired better if someone dropped him on his head a few times.” It wasn’t to say that the man was a bad person, he just had a few traits that reflected his status. He was a prince through and through, the good and the bad. There was a darkness that came from power, even her mother and her had some of it in them. David wasn’t afraid to show it though. She heard that it was more of a reflection of his father and upbringing than anything else.
Riley paused for a few seconds. “How was she? His mother?” The woman that Jeremiah loved. She had to be something special to earn the dedication that Jeremiah had for her. It wasn’t like David ever spoke of her and they weren’t even close so her curiousity couldn’t be satiated from her step-father. Her soon to be husband, however? The man who loved her and probably had nothing but praise? That was an easier person to get anything out of.
Katherine always liked to help, and since rebuilding the docks was a priority, it was where the princess was, just because she was from the royal family didn’t mean she was going to stay in the palace, she was strong, and every person was necessary, how she could ask for everyone on the island to help if she wouldn’t be there herself.
Everything seemed to be going according to schedule, and if things kept going like this, the docks would be ready before they ran out of blood rations, since that would be a bigger disaster. “Could you pass me the hammer?” Katherine asked the person next to her.
@paradisusstart
Riley was looking for her mother and it was easy enough to get one of her security detail to tell her where she was. Admittedly, she was a bit surprised that her mother decided to spend the day doing manual labour repairing the stinky docks, but at the same time, she also wasn’t surprised. Her mother was a kind-hearted woman and seeing the future Queen willing to get down and dirty also wouldn’t hurt the royal image. No one was above helping others, she supposed.
“Sure, which one is that again?” she joked, taking a second or two before handing her mother the hammer. Riley was absolutely selfishly spoiled compared to her mom and wasn’t afraid to joke about it. “You’re going to have to buy me a new dress for making me come out here to see you. I’ll never get rid of the stink of fish from it.” She dramatically wrinkled her nose in disgust.
rileyadams:
“Red,” Riley answered. She continued to watch Jeremiah as he sat down, explaining his reasons for the surprise. It made sense and she appreciated it but it did suddenly feel kind of real—the idea that they would be making a family together. The whole baby thing had felt so theoretical, like some sort of transaction to get done and once the baby was out, she had done what everyone wanted, she didn’t even consider that they would have to raise the baby together. In some ways, she didn’t have to raise the baby, there were always nannies and staff who could take care of the child, but was that really the kind of mother she wanted to be? Her mother didn’t raise her that way and from what Jeremiah said, he had no intentions of doing that either.
“I didn’t know you were so into the family thing,” Riley confessed. “I figured most old-fashioned vampires preferred the ‘leave it to the nanny’ mentality.” Taking care of a child was labour intensive and labour was for the poor, after all. “To be honest, I never thought much about having a family. My mom didn’t really talk about it. I figured it was a sore spot for her since… well… me.” She wasn’t exactly the ideal child by pureblood standards and she knew it hurt her mother to not be able to give Riley that loving family that she believed she deserved. “But I like that… having a warm family for them to grow in.” She genuinely smiled, very open to the idea.
“Are you sure this isn’t just another one of David and my mother’s schemes to get me pregnant though? It’s rather swoon worthy, Lord Wallace.” she joked. She trusted Jeremiah to be on her side by now. They were the partnership her parents wanted and it was their own little way of rebelling by not giving into every single one of the royal couples’ desires. “Because I can assure you, our bedtime activities is enough convincing,” she winked.
*
The bottle of red wine was picked up upon her choice to open it and pour it into the two glasses that were waiting on the food filled table. Ofcourse the food was infused with blood as usual. Jeremiah got up to lift the lid off a pan of soup as a starter, though she could pick whatever she liked. “Why wouldn’t I be? I come from a family of nobility but was raised pretty normal, aside from all the training since it was expected of me.” He said, listening to her every word. “Can’t have been easy for you, your biological father not being here.” He meant that in two ways, one being as he said it and two being having to deal with David as a stepfather, a role the prince didn’t just accept easily.
He sat back in his chair a little, taking a sip. “The thing is that I’ve raised a child, the first few years of David’s life I took on the parental role because his father… well, can’t really call him a father. The King hated the baby from the start which will forever not make sense but he doesn’t make sense in general so no surprise there. Once he figured out that David looked to me like a father, he sent me away and out of David’s life for years on missions leading his army. When I finally got to return, David was close to adulthood and I saw what years of… emotional neglect, to put it mildly really, could do to a child. For a child not to have a warm nest. I came back to the monster the King had created.” Jer just smiled at her remark.
“So no, not a scheme, but something I want, as I refuse to let any child of mine grow up believing that he or she is unloved.” Jer never liked to talk much about the past but he knew he needed to open up more so he was trying. “I have no complaints about the bedtime activities.” Jer said with a chuckle before having some of his soup.
Riley supposed she could relate to that sentiment—being disliked by the king who was family. Luckily for her, her mother loved her and never did she feel unloved by her. “I didn’t have a typical family but my mother loved me enough for the both of them.” She rarely felt like she was missing anything in regards to parental guidance. The only thing missing was that part of her that felt like she just wasn’t good enough to be accepted into the rest of the family. She wasn’t one of them even if the rest of them treated her well.
She began to dig into the food. “I agree with you though. I would never want any child of mine to feel unloved. I’m not sure if I would make a great mother but I definitely wouldn’t be a cold one.” She didn’t want to raise a monster and while she thoroughly believed that vampires weren’t the monsters human believed they were, they could be if not given the proper guidance. “But hopefully that’s far into the future. I’m not ready to be a mother yet,” she confessed. “I am far too young.” She stuck her tongue out at Jeremiah, never willing to pass up a chance to mock her aging husband to be.

Riley didn’t expect much whenever she arrived home, pretty used to the routine Jer and her had developed by now. He was often working late so Riley felt no pressure or obligation to ever return home early. They would catch each other in the brief gaps of their schedules and if neither of them weren’t otherwise tired or not feeling up for it, they would perform their marital duties. It wasn’t bad, by any means, but it also wasn’t anything romantic.
It definitely wasn’t special dinner worthy.
And yet that was exactly what she found herself walking into as she strolled into their dining room this particular night. Her brows were raised and her confusion high as she observed the layout before her. “Wow…” was all she could breathe in response. Frankly, no one has ever done this for her before. It felt so… homely. “You didn’t have to do any of this, I’m already marrying you,” she joked, slipping into the ease of humour.
She took the offered seat, sitting down despite not having completely taken in what was going on. “This is really nice, Jer… but did I miss a special date or something?” They didn’t do this kind of stuff so she was starting to wonder if she was missing something or there was some news worth celebrating. Being surprised with dinner was not on her list of things she thought she would ever experience in their arrangement.
The first thing he noticed was easily the confused look on her face, it made him chuckle, knowing this was out of the ordinary for him to do, so it didn’t surprise him that she would be confused. “Oh, right, I actually forgot about that. Guess I’ll clear this this up then since you’re marrying me anyway.” He smirked a little as she took the offered seat and then took a seat himself.
“Not that I know of, no, should there be a special date to be able to have a meal with the one I’m marrying?” Jer asked while he reached for the glasses. “Red or white?” A gesture to two bottles of wine accompanied the question. “There’s no special occasion, just… thought it would be nice. We’ve both been busy and I know I’ve been a little distant maybe sometimes and I want to change that. Yes, we’re gonna be getting married but that doesn’t mean we should live as strangers? Especially if we do succeed to have a child.” He explained as he sat back in his sat.
“Maybe I’m just old-fashioned that way but I’d like a warm home for when we have a family.” Jeremiah wasn’t sure he made much sense with this, but he wasn’t planning on raising a kid in the way most Purebloods did.
“Red,” Riley answered. She continued to watch Jeremiah as he sat down, explaining his reasons for the surprise. It made sense and she appreciated it but it did suddenly feel kind of real—the idea that they would be making a family together. Weeks had gone by almost unnoticed. Work had been busy, or in other words, David had been keeping him busy but as usual he was reminded he should put time into his engagement as well. So far it hadn’t been as bad as he had feared at first, they both took this seriously, having made an old house into a home, attending events together to put themselves on display, all while also doing their own thing. Today he was home early, earlier than she was. A table was set, a table large enough to feed a family as he was still getting to know what she liked, so there was lots of everything. It included drinks ofcourse, aside from the dinner made ready. The staff had been given the evening off since he really didn’t want any nosy ones lingering around them.
This was just a little something for her, maybe to show that he was trying and that in some ways she was growing on him, even if he really couldn’t admit that out loud yet. Partly it still felt like cheating to him, but that feeling was subsiding more over time. “Perfect.” Jer mumbled as he lit the candles on the table and straightened his tie, looking up when he heard the key get put in the lock of the door and get turned. She was home. “Hey… Sorry if this is a bit over the top. Forgive me, I’m a little rusty at things like this, but I hope you’re hungry?” He asked, a smile on his face as he pulled a chair back for her in advance.

maxwell--carter:
Why Monogamy? “I’m…clingy. I don’t like the idea of someone swiping him out from under me.” He felt his cheeks flush, “Pun intended, I suppose. He’s always been my person. He’s always been my best friend. I’ve never considered not seeing like…one person at a time.”
A loveless marriage? Sounded…awful to him, he couldn’t help the face he made. “See that’s what I don’t understand. If vampires are looking for population- right? That’s why you do the whole arranged marriage thing- why not just….play the field. Wouldn’t your chances be higher if everyone was doing everyone?” He paused, “You’d at-least be in happy partnerships. Not weird…controlling….dictator-esque engagements?”
Max definitely had a point. If it was all about procreation and population, it would make more sense for any male to spread his seed everywhere. “Unfortunately, we are also old-fashioned snobby creatures and value our money and titles. It’s all about making sure our bloodlines remain strong and our children inherit our prestige.” She gestured for him to enter one of the rooms. Along the wall were various portraits. “These are most of the pureblood vampires of the past... or at least the closest image of them we have.” Her grandfather had been ruling quite some time and there weren’t many paintings that survived that long so all of them were from memory. “They were painted by the King himself.”
She gestured to the more modern ones, featuring the current royal family. “Unlike humans, our bloodlines actually do affect our power. It’s not some imaginary anointment of God. The more pure our blood, the stronger, faster, and more dangerous we are. It has become an art to ensure that our children don’t become too diluted.” Yes, numbers mattered, but so did the strength that came from being a vampire. “That’s why I can be the Princess’ daughter but never be enough.”
exhumanxrhea:
“Probably best for the island as a whole.” She teased, grinning over at her, and as Riley continued to speak Rhea couldn’t help but let out a little laugh, snorting in disbelief at the words coming out of the other’s mouth. “We come from such wildly different worlds..” decades ago she was living on the streets. A year ago she barely could afford renting a shitty little studio. And now here she was- room and board for free, a place of her own, a steady job… for the first time life was decent for her. Whereas decent was probably base-level for everything Riley’d ever done in her life. “You wouldn’t have lasted a day in my life before here.”
Even as she spoke though, her tone was light and easy, not judging because..who was she to judge at this point? She was sure if she lived hundreds of years she’d start amassing wealth too. And if she did, she wasn’t going to exactly be modest about it. “Trust me, I’m starting to learn that.” The comment was out of her mouth before she could realize, and she felt a little pang because she genuinely was falling in love with little Lily. If only the rest of her life could slot into place so efficiently… Shoving the thoughts away, Rhea shook her head a bit before turning to Riley, focusing on the here and now, “So, aside from drinks, I seem to recall you saying you’d want to serve me other things. Care to give a girl a little hint? Or are you going to make me wait until you’ve got me all liquored up, princess?” official or not, the title worked.
Riley didn’t quite understand what Rhea meant by how she was starting to learn that but she shook it off. Perhaps it was just personal experience knowing how hard it was to control being a vampire overall, let alone a child one. The conversation swiftly changed, however, so Riley didn’t have a chance to ask anyway.
At her question, Riley quirked her brow. “Just enough so that the experience is heightened.” Riley didn’t believe in nor did she need to get people drunk to fall into bed with her but alcohol made things fun. She leaned forward, her finger gently tracing over Rhea’s thigh as she whispered, “After all, I wouldn’t want you to forget me in the morning.” Not that anyone could forget her, even if they were blackout drunk… at least that’s what Riley hoped.
The car eventually came to a stop in front of a classic looking mansion, suited and designed to match Jer’s old fashioned sensibility with a little splash of quirky for Riley’s entertainment. The door was opened for them and she stepped out, guiding Rhea into her home. It was relatively empty, only a single maid wandering around in case Riley needed anything. “When I first walked into this place, it was covered in cobwebs and dust, I almost considered just turning it into a spider sanctuary but I figured I shouldn’t be that wasteful with money.”
meenaxkhatri:
“Surprise me.” Meena grinned slightly, having composed herself a bit, although she still felt a bit shy. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she knew the other. It was likely she did, as she’d met to many people during her travels. She’d run into the same people several times, even some on the island! But there was something about the other that made her feel like the other should be set apart from everyone else, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. “You have a name?”
Riley smiled at her answer and waved over the bartender. “Why don’t we start you with a mai tai?” she suggested. Sweet, easy, and slow. It wasn’t her intention to get the girl drunk so it seemed like a safe choice. The bartender nodded and headed off to make the drink. “I’m Riley, how about you?” Again, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she had met the girl before but Riley was a socialite and had always been a socialite. She’s met thousands upon thousands of people in her life and it was impossible to remember them all. Frankly, she’s probably slept with just as many. “How long have you been on the island?” she asked, determined to figure some part of this out.
rileyadams:

Riley was pleased that Max seemed to understand that Octavia was tragically unavailable and had someone else to occupy his attention. She wouldn’t blame him if he did have a thing for Octavia. She’s a gorgeous princess and there was something intimate about sharing one’s blood, but she was far too reckless and powerful to safeguard any romantic relationship with a human.
When he accepted her offer, she nodded, pleased. “I would love that.”
She began to lead him out of the room and towards some of the more interesting ones. “About your best friend. Why can’t you just tell them you’re in love with them?” she asked. “No offence, but you humans don’t have long to live and even have less time when you’re attractive so dilly dallying around the topic does you no favours. The answer seems stupidly easy to me.” She could never understand why people these days were so bad at communicating.
. He offered her his arm, trying to remain a gentleman. He’d follow her all day if she wanted to continue to talk. But then the topic turned to one he wanted to avoid. Isak. “Oh no. He knows. He’s just…struggling right now with some other stuff.” And when she put it within the lense of time, Max was questioning why he was waiting around. “He struggles with some substance abuse. We’re working on it- but it feels….oddly selfish to ask him for monogamy right now.”
Max wanted monogamy. He wanted the exclusivity, he didn’t want to question some of the looks he and Isak got. Fuck he’d marry him, if Isak was in a better state mentally. “What about you? Are you seeing someone? What’s the trick to staying with someone for longer than an average lifespan?”
Riley shook her head in pity, only able to imagine that struggle. “Maybe if you focus on your love, it will be enough of a distraction. Or at least, it would give him a reason to want to stay sober so he could actually enjoy your company.” Riley wasn’t naive enough to think that the power of love would solve everything but it couldn’t hurt having something worth fighting for. “Have you ever considered you don’t need monogamy? What’s so good about it anyway?” Riley truly would never understand the obsessive need people had to own one another. The world of love and sex had so much to offer and it was silly to reduce someone’s ability to experience it simply because one couldn’t control one’s jealousy.
At his question, she shrugged. “I’m not seeing someone. I’m engaged. Arranged marriage.” She held out her hand to show off her impressive ring. “But he and I have a very pleasant understanding. We do what we need to do to make my parents happy and we don’t try to control the other. Love isn’t part of the deal… yet.” She wasn’t against the idea, necessarily, she just wasn’t turning her mind to it. “Love makes things messy. When vampires enter an arranged marriage, they understand that they have to work towards making the marriage work. Relying on love alone is a recipe for failure and if the couple falls out of love? Oh boy.”

Riley was a bit surprised by the bold motion but immediately grinned afterwards, more than happy to exchange a drink for a good time. “I’ve been ready since the moment I stepped into this bar.” It wasn’t a lie at all. She had been interested and incessantly flirting with Rhea since she met her–luckily, it didn’t seem like Rhea minded whatsoever.
She sent a quick text message before heading out. It took her chauffeur about the same amount of time to stop in front of the bar as it took for Rhea to lock up so the door was open and ready for them by the time she turned around. “I never drink and drive,” she reassured Rhea, gesturing for her to enter the car before her. Frankly, Riley rarely drove at all, but it was a small step in impressing the conscientious bartender.
Rhea again found herself rolling her eyes playfully at the comment but followed her just the same, switching off lights in their wake and locking the bar up for the night. Seconds later a car was pulling up and Rhea just let out a breath, shaking her head slightly. Decades as a vampire, and a year on an island where money didn’t really mean much, and still she found herself taken aback by casual displays of wealth. Case in point- a chauffeur.
“I’d be surprised if you drive at all, princess.” Rhea teased as she climbed into the car and then shifted to face her as they were driven off moments later. “Let me guess, we’re heading off to where all the estates and palace are? Or are you roughing it in a homely little apartment like the rest of us plebeians?”
Riley giggled at Rhea’s retort. She knew when she was caught and wasn’t going to deny it. “I have a license, even if it’s not in use.” Why drive when she could have someone else do it while she scrolled through her social medias? Her mother’s guilt paid for everything and it would be silly not to take advantage of it. “I never claimed that I wasn’t a spoiled brat, even if I’m not officially a princess. I would never survive the life of a plebeian, even my apartment is expensive.”
Just as Rhea predicted, the loud and skyscraper-filled streets soon gave way to quieter softly-lit streets, filled with gated estates and their perfectly manicured lawns. “I actually lived in the city prior to moving in with Jeremiah but the city is no place to raise a little noble baby. They need a lot of space.” And seclusion. Vampire babies were a lot to handle and it wasn’t often that they were successfully raised in urban environments, especially when vampires were still hiding their existence.

“That’s what I said to Cyrus!” He was near pointing at her, smiling a bit more. He was too happy to be right- to have someone on his side- to care about what she had said . “Add in that i’m stupidly in love with my best friend, and let me know what you think about the prince’s insecurity.” He stood, brushing off his pants and approaching the other. “I am so down- we can talk more too, if you’d like?”

Max sat up straight, the way she spoke was telling in itself for him. As he had heard at some of the public events he’s now attended. Well that and- the last time he meant someone spontaneously in the castle was Octavia’s fiance.
“Oh- yea.” He paused, smiling a little bit more. “I’m Max, I’m a friend to princess Octavia. It’s lovely to meet you, miss.” Friend was an enough, right? She wouldn’t need to know about the walking blood bag part of his title. WIth a bow of his head out of respect. He had become much more aware of how he came across to the others in the castle. Less work for the princess in the long run. “Princess Octavia’s in a meeting, she said I could just hang out.”

Max... Now where had she heard that name before? It took her a few seconds but it finally sank in and Riley’s eyes widened. “So you’re the Max that’s driving Cyrus mad.” She narrowed her eyes and took him in. “Passably handsome. Cutely nerdy. Tragically non-threatening... I don’t see it.” Riley didn’t understand how Cyrus could even remotely find this boy threatening to him. She shook her head and sighed. Frankly, she had been expecting some adonis brought to life and this was a disappointment.
“Well, Max, why don’t I give you a tour instead? I’m bored and surely you won’t deny a lady like me some entertainment?” If it wasn’t the looks, there had to be something else to it, right? Riley would figure it out. She had no plans on confronting either of them about it but she was too curious to ignore the opportunity.
