We had a pseudo pagan ceremony for Ishtar on March 31st 2018. Everyone present participated in some fashion. There was appreciation, prayer, spells, songs, burnings, and banishment, it was lovely. The next day I took Colin and Tom to the quarry where I found the deer skeleton. Coyote heights. I can’t wait for this forest to be in full bloom.
not in vain // i plead the fifth
we bought a house in the woods
an open concept log cabin on 5 acres surrounded by miles of woods and endless mountains. Every night Colin and I look at each other in amazement. We are so blessed. We have worked hard and put in time but we are blessed none the less. To own such a home made of wood and love by someone I may never know. This house represents a lot to me, more than I am willing to share on this forum but it is here and it is mine and it is ours.
Ahh Catskill Park... 700,000 acres of land stretching across 4 counties in “upstate” New York. A forest preserve. Preservation. Please never leave.
Yesterday Giavanna and I hiked Frick and Hodge Pond Loop in Livingston Manor, NY. It was a cold, calm, quiet winter day I was happy to spend in the forest with a friend. Listening to our footsteps crunch through the untouched, ice plated snow. Watching a vole scurry beneath the ice layer. Spotting ice formations that looked like topographic maps with holes instead of peaks. Laughing, walking in sync through clouds, dodging falling branches, getting caught in sleet for the last 3 miles, imagining what summer will bring.
After, we were frozen with wet feet so we sought refuge at the Robin Hood Diner and Pub. Once we proved Giavanna was “of age” we were warmly welcomed with whisky and food and a wood stove to hang our wet jackets by to dry. All the patrons and staff told us we were insane for choosing such a shitty day to hike and then bought us a round, told us where we could buy dry socks and entertained us for our time there. We drove down to the dollar general on Main Street where we bought socks and sweats and used their bathroom to change into completely dry clothes. It seems to be after a hike I find myself most grateful for things I often take for granted, like dry clothes. Bring more appreciation to each day.
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
