a/n: in a perfect world i would have spent much more time on this idea and made it a full like 15-20k word multi-chaptered fic with a lot more dialogue and stuff but i was pretty sure i would lose interest by then so here we are! this is actually the second fastest i've ever written a fic (only took 1 week!) so i'm going to count this as a win lol

Having been a trainee for all of your teenage years, you've seen a lot of the darker sides to the industry and you've trained yourself for practically any situation you could imagine. You've spent hours honing your skills and trying to become more well-rounded, spending time practicing rap, dance, singing, producing, choreographing, acting, and languages.
Yet nothing could have prepared you for when management sits you down and tells you that they're considering for you to debut as a member of the already established, all boys group, Stray Kids.
Honestly, after so many years with nothing to show for it, you had thought that it was more likely that they were dropping you as a trainee. After all, even though you had consistently been praised by instructors, you had never made it to being short-listed for any groups or considered to be a soloist.
So even though you know it’s purely experimental, that practically none of the fans would want this to happen, that this would likely end up to be one of the most controversial debuts ever, you say yes. If this is your one and only chance to become an idol, you’re going to take what you can get and give it your all.
You sign the papers that same day and management organises a time for you to meet the members a couple days later.
You want to meet them as soon as you can so that there’s less of a chance they’ll scrap the idea, but as you stand outside the room that the members are in, you start to doubt yourself. You take a deep breath to steel your nerves, then raise a shaky hand to knock on the door. You overhear Chan’s voice right as your fist is about to make contact and manage to pull back just in time.
“Listen,” he says. “I know this isn’t ideal, but we don’t have much of a choice. Let’s just try to make the best of this and see what happens. As long as the eight of us can stick together, lean on each other, I know that we can get through this. She’ll be coming soon, so let’s try to be nice, okay?”
Well, that definitely answers your question on whether the members were involved in the decision-making process for your addition to the group. Chan framed it perfectly, it’s less than ideal. Of course you’d prefer to join a group that actively wants you, but you have to take what you can get. At your age, you can’t exactly afford to be picky.
It’s disheartening to hear right before you’re about to meet them for the first time, but you hope that once you start working with them, you’ll be able to prove yourself.
Over the next few weeks, you come to learn that it doesn’t exactly work like that. The boys are nice, but not overly welcoming. Exceedingly polite, but guarded. Helpful, but not going out of their way to get to know you. At the end of the day, they’re coworkers who know they have no other option but to try and get along with you. You wish things were different, but at the same time, you can't blame them.
3Racha work with you the most. You spent enough time as a trainee producing on your own that the company pushes you to spend time in the studio with them. You learn a lot from them, amazed by the ease with which Chan utilises Cubase to create tracks, the unique rhythms that Changbin adds to songs, the speed that Jisung spits out new lyrics, how their talents complement each other.
Knowing that you're an outsider to all of this and not wanting to interrupt, you jot down your thoughts on a tiny notebook that you carry around. On occasion, when you build up enough courage to mention an idea you have, they listen to you, but usually override it later on in the process. They’re not trying to be rude, but after so many years, they’ve already figured out their own flow when it comes to making music and it doesn’t have space for you.
You even move into the dorms with them and Hyunjin. Management has informed you that they considered giving you a place to yourself, but hoped that sharing a living space with them would aid with your integration in the group.
It's not exactly successful. You almost never see them around even though your schedules are practically identical. At first you think it's just unfortunate timing or even them wanting to give you space to settle in and feel more comfortable. But after a few weeks, you can tell it's more than a coincidence that the common areas are always empty when you're around. They're avoiding you.
You start to spend more time away from the dorms, feeling bad that you're taking away the one space they have to themselves. You always pulled long hours at the company as a trainee, but now you're pretty sure that you're breaking records for time spent in the dance studios. You have a lot to catch up on anyway and by the time you finish practice, it's usually so late that everybody else is already in bed, or you don't even bother to go home.
In the beginning, the boys try to make the effort to invite you along whenever they eat dinner together. But it’s hard to ignore the sense that you don’t quite belong. You don’t understand the inside jokes that they laugh about, aren’t familiar with half the names that they mention, you don’t know when to jump into the conversation versus when to just listen.
But team dinners are far and few between, meaning your opportunities to hang out with the members outside of schedules are also rare. During schedules and practices, you feel like an annoying ninth wheel that they have to drag along with them.
You get one month to prepare and train with the group before the company officially announces your addition to the group. The feedback is generally what you expect.
Some are curious about who you are and what skills you have to offer, but as expected, the vast majority were openly against you joining Stray Kids.
They wonder what the company was thinking to suddenly add a new member, and a female one at that, and you're honestly wondering the same thing.
The comments pick on your height, weight, hair, skin, anything and everything about your appearance, how strong your voice is, and any slight missteps you make while dancing. They notice all the awkward interactions between you and the members that are caught on cameras, hesitations when answering questions about you or jokes that seem a little too forced.
You do your best to ignore all the criticism, instead throwing yourself headlong into ensuring that you’ve perfected every move and note for upcoming performances. At first it's not too bad, it's easy to stay away from social media when you keep yourself so busy.
But the fans get creative, they send protest trucks and funeral wreaths to the company building. During the couple performances that you do shortly after debuting, the crowd always goes completely silent when it comes to your part or really any time that you're shown on screen. You get assigned a plain clothed security detail for any time that you have to be out alone in public after fans start following and harassing you.
It all comes to a head when the comeback finally happens. It's just a digital single, but management has decided to market it almost like a single album, spending time to film a music video, dance practice video, even organising a whole press junket for promotion.
And it's the worst performing comeback Stray Kids has ever had. Numbers and engagement is even lower than when the group had first debuted and were still relatively unknown. You've seen how Stays are rallying together to boycott the comeback and telling others to avoid interacting with posts.
You see how it drains the boys. They've had to work hard in preparation and for it to do so poorly is more than disappointing. To your face, they try to stay polite, but tempers are shorter when you're around and you know that they all, rightfully, blame you for this disastrous comeback.
You can handle the hate when it's directed to you, and while you know it's impossible, you really were hoping that the rest of the group wouldn't be significantly affected. It kills you, knowing that you're the reason for the fans boycotting the group and you consider if it would be best to graciously leave the group. But selfishly, you still don't want to give up.
It's challenging and it's tiring and most of all, it's lonely.
You're surrounded by people all the time, spend most of your days with the same eight boys, and yet you've never felt so alone.
But you knew that. You had hoped that if you ever debuted, you would consider the group to be a second family, of course you had. But at the same time you knew that it was just wishful thinking. You weren't guaranteed to like the other members and they might not like you.
So you don't complain. You bite your tongue and hold back your tears and you dance and sing and continue making songs that you knew 3Racha will never accept. To be on stage, even if the crowd was full of fans that hated you, it was enough.
—
It's hard not to be nervous when you get a text from one of your managers, Daon, late one evening, telling you that you're being excused from morning dance practice to attend a meeting. He says it's a regular check-in, but it's hard to believe when they haven't bothered to have any other meetings in the past.
In fact, you were surprised that there hadn't even been a meeting to inform you when the company was going to announce your debut to the public. Of course, you had been monitored continuously in the month beforehand and you assume the trainers and managers had been at least somewhat satisfied with how you were doing since you continued practicing with the group, but nobody had sat you down and let you know that they had decided to officially make you a member.
All the promotions for the comeback are long finished now and although preparations are starting for the next one, a mini album, you know that everybody has the same question in mind. Will you still be with the group by then?
The uneasy feeling that something terrible is about to happen just intensifies when you arrive at the room and find that along with Daon are a number of faces from different levels of management, many that you've never spoken with before.
“Y/n-ssi, thank you for coming today,” Daon starts, as if you had a choice whether to attend or not.
You murmur a quick greeting in response, still unsure what the purpose of the meeting is.
“As you know, it has been three months since you officially debuted. Based on your compatibility with the rest of the group and the reaction from the fans, the decision has been made to terminate your contract as a member of Stray Kids,” Daon says. His tone is bland and unapologetic, as if he was reading pages from a phonebook rather than telling you that your career as an idol was over after only a few short months.
“Effective immediately,” the man beside Daon adds, as if the situation wasn't already bad enough.
“We would like to get the boys back on track as soon as possible,” Daon explains unnecessarily. “You understand, don't you?”
“Of course,” you reply automatically. But you don't. You have no idea what's happening. How this could be happening so suddenly. Of course, you knew that being dropped was always a looming threat, but you had always assumed that there would be warning signs, that you'd have a chance to fix things.
“Great,” Daon says.
“Did- did you talk to the other members about this?” you ask, finally finding your voice and cutting him off. “Did they agree that they didn’t want me in the group anymore?”
“The other members will be informed of your official removal from the group this evening. Their opinion during the decision-making process was irrelevant.”
“I see,” you say weakly.
Actually, you’re a little grateful that the boys weren’t actually involved in this decision. Although it probably would have been a unanimous vote anyway, if there was anything that could make you hurt any more than you already are, it would be having that confirmed.
“You'll be escorted back to dorms and will have some assistance packing all of your belongings.” Daon continues on. “I understand that you lived in Seoul prior to being a trainee, so I trust that you will be able to find new accommodations on your own. Please ensure that you return your employee ID before you leave the building and any equipment you may have borrowed from the company can be collected by the staff who will help you pack.”
“I understand,” you whisper. “There’s- there’s nothing I can do? To change your minds or-”
“Unfortunately this is not a decision that can be changed. We appreciate your talent, Y/n-ssi, and all the years you have been with the company, but we just don't see you with a future at JYPE. I'm really sorry.” Daon says, sounding anything but.
Before you can say or do anything else, Daon and the rest of the staff in the room stand, bow, and exit the room, leaving you alone.
6 years as a trainee, 4 months as a member of Stray Kids, and all it took was a 5 minute meeting to end it all.
True to Daon’s word, after you give up your employee ID, you're escorted out of the building and to the dorms, where a staff member helps you as you mechanically pack all your belongings.
It only takes you two hours to remove every trace of your existence from the dorm. You suppose that Hyunjin will be glad to get the room back to use for his paintings. He's been storing things in his room while you've been in the group, but has complained that the smell of paint makes it more difficult for him to sleep. Just one more reason it's better for you to leave, you think.
In fact, in the time that you've been packing, you haven't been able to think of any argument against the termination of your contract. Maybe that's the worst part, as much as you hate it, you know the company is making the smarter, better choice to cut you out. You've brought nothing but bad things to the group.
Once you’ve packed everything, the staff member leads you out. You hand over your keys and watch from the sidewalk, surrounded by all your belongings, as he gets into the company car and drives away.
oki so i saw your post about writing more indian skz fics and as a fellow indian stay
YESSSS PLSSSS they make me feel so seen!
i was wondering if you would write like a 9th member fic where y/n brings the members to a festival with her family or something? maybe ganesh chatturthy cuz that just ended (them playing holi would be so cute but also imagine them in kurtas 😆)
another one could deffo be her making them try traditional snacks (like murukku and nuvu laddus fs) that were sent over by her grandparents?

a quick rundown on holi
holi is a festival that's usually in the middle or end of march. Its known as the festival of colours and is usually a two-day festival. The first day is called choti holi (small holi), where a bonfire is lit to burn away negativity. the second day is called badi holi (big holi) where gulal (aka colours) are thrown to celebrate our gods and goddesses, Radha and Krishna, and victory over a demoness Holika.

This year, the management team came up with an idea of integrating y/n’s culture into skz code. Y/n, once asked, told them about the festival of colours called holi that was approaching mid march in india. After hearing about it, the team was all in on filming that episode. And asked y/n to be the host for this episode and they agreed.
One thing y/n asked the team was to not tell the members about what the episode was going to be and for them to find out on camera itself, so y/n could see their raw reactions and capture it on camera.
The vibes were high. Everyone was excited for the filming of the new season of skz code, it was always fun. Even if they were filmed, to the members, it didn’t feel like work, it just felt like they were having fun as friends, the cameras didn’t matter. The boys had no idea what was in store for them. All they knew that they were going to go to a park today.
All of them were styled in some kind of white tshirt and shorts or track pants. They didn’t think much of it, thinking that they were mostly gonna do something in the sun so the stylists wanted them to have light fits so as to not overheat them much.
-----
Y/n had given the idea for her to film the intro first without the members so she can surprise them with the colours the management had prepared. The boys were told that Y/n will be joining the episode a little later since she had other schedules. Chan was a little suspicious on why they would schedule her events in such a way but didn’t focus on it too much after Y/n told her that something had come up at the last minute that she needed to focus on.
When the boys all arrived at the venue, all styled in their pristine white clothes, they were all blindfolded and weren't able to see the multiple piles of different colours of powders on the table along with different types of water guns and buckets of water in front of them. As time went on, they all got suspicious.
“Umm, when can we take this off? Have we started filming yet?.” Felix said, scratching his head.
“I don-” Hyunjin started but was interrupted as he yelled in his high pitch scream as a cold water balloon burst on his back. All startled, took their blindfolds just in time to see Y/n running towards them with a big water gun (pichkari) in one hand, and another balloon in the other.
They weren’t in a park, but a large backyard of a house with a huge pool and camera crew was a good 50 meters away from them, all their cameras zoomed in, knowing the mess they would make.
“HAPPY HOLI!! COME GET ME IF YOU CAN” Y/n yelled as she sprayed cold coloured water from her pichkari towards all of the boys. Running out from behind the wall on their left.
They all grabbed water guns from in front of them laughing hysterically as they sprayed each other with the same water and grabbed colours and balloons from the table in front of them. Within minutes, all of them were drenched as they formed alliances and strategies to get their opponents with the water.
-----
“So this was your schedule?” Lee know asked loading up his pichkari as he looked at Y/n with a look she decoded to she is going to be drenched soon enough. Chan, Changbin and Felix were fighting amongst themselves, teaming up against unfortunate IN whose water gun was out of water and the three men in front of him all ran towards him with hands full of colour, water guns and balloons. Hyunjin and Hand were playing amongst themselves, clothes and hair full of multiple colours. They had switched from holi to wrestling on the ground to get colour on the other ones face.
“How dare you lie to us Y/n. You will pay for this.” Seungmin joined Lee know as they both had mischievous looks in their eyes. Y/n yelped as she ran away from the two men, but not for long as they caught up to her and drenched her in the cold water, getting the entire bucket with them as well and dumping it over her head.
She laughed as Lee know picked her up and jumped into the pool with her. Almost drowning them both.
“Dude, you shouldn’t be the one pushing me into the pool. We both will drown.” Y/n joked as she splashed water onto him, Seungmin joining them and swimming to them.
“Uh yuh, don’t lie next to me next time onwards.” He joked back. The others looked at their three members and all jumped into the pool as well. The cameras were now brought a little closer to them, taking into account the fact that they didn’t have their water guns and couldn’t accidentally splash the camera or the producers.
-----
The producers brought them back to reality, reminding them they have to film as well. The members had to play a couple games to determine their rooms in the giant house they were behind, to pass out after the filming. Since they also had the next few days off, they were also able to get away and this was their last schedule. They were gonna spend the next how much ever time they wanted to in the house.
They all had their water guns refilled (and replaced in Han’s case whose gun was unfortunately collateral damage when he wrestled with Hyunjin.) and had been given a target some feet away from them and had to hit the bulls eye. For the second game, they had to hit the person in front of them with the most amount of balloons. Whoever scored the most, got to choose their room and whoever had the least amount of points, was going to be dunked in the pool.
“Guess I’ll be winning the challenges today? All the best to everyone else. Just hope you’re not gonna be last.” Yn said confidently.
“Sure, lets see. If you win, then I’ll do your chores for a month, no matter what my place in the game is. But if I win, you have to do all my chores for a month.” Seungmin placed a bet with Y/n who agreed without hesitation.
“Guess we will be seeing a sad puppy today people!” Y/n announced as she hit the bullseye every time she took a shot,
“What? How? You’re terrible at aiming!” Seungmin cried as he missed almost half of his targets.
“Buddy, I’ve been playing with pichkaris since I was literally 5 years old. Of course I was gonna win.” Y/n said smugly as she saw the annoyance in his eyes at the fact he will have to do her laundry for a month.
Han not surprisingly came last in the final point tally. Which means he was going to be pushed into the pool. All the members came running towards him as he stood on the edge of the pool, screaming violently, Chan finally grabbed him and jumped in the pool. All getting blasted with the cool water of it.
-----
After spending some more time in the pool and making the water all purple everyone called it a day. Before all of them freshed up, Y/n told them that she had another surprise for them. After everyone was done, they all filed into the room and an amazing scent hit their nose, The smell of food.
Not just any food. Indian food.
“The best part of holi is the food you get to eat afterwards. I remember once I had played holi for like 7 hours straight when I was a kid and when I went home, I had the best meal of my life and then proceeded to pass out for the remainder of the day.” (this is a real story btw, i played for like 8 ish hours one year in the pool our society had and i was one of the first to come and last to go, this was when i was around 7-8 yrs old. Still one of my fondest memories.)
“That sounds so fun. 7 hours is crazy” Han said as everyone agreed as Y/n smiled proudly.
“One thing I remember very vividly is how I made these sweets called gujiya.” (It is also called Karanji, Pedakiya, and Kajjikayalu and other names depending on the region you live in, but my family calls it gujiya.)
“They are a dough that’s fried with a sweet milk solids and coconut and nuts and it is still to this day, one of my favorite sweets.” Y/n said handing over the plate of the fried crescent-shaped sweets to the boys as everyone grabbed their own and marvelled at the taste.
“Wow, this tastes even better cause we played for so long and all of us are starving.” Changbin stated and Y/n nodded.
“We also have an assortment of namkeen (savory snacks). Like chat, kachori (fried pastry with savory filling inside), namak pare (diamond shaped- somewhere between a biscuit and cracker), and pakoras (fried vegetables like onion and potato covered in batter). All of these are such nostalgic foods to me, whenever I have these, especially when I'm tired after playing, they just hit the spot.” Y/n explained to the cameras as well as the boys.
“Man, I can imagine the comfort they provide you.“ Felix said as everyone started to eat. After filming that for like 2 hours, everyone went to their respective rooms they had chosen/ not chosen in the game and passed out for hours on end.
Chan was the first to wake up. They had finished filming at around 2, and he woke up at 8. Showing just how accurate Y/n was at telling the story of her passing out in a food coma after playing holi.
oki so i saw your post about writing more indian skz fics and as a fellow indian stay

Showing just how accurate Y/n was at telling the story of her passing out in a food coma after playing holi.
pairing: ot8!skz x platonic!female!9thmember!reader
genre: fluff, slight angst (?)
warnings: found family, family neglect (kinda triggering), the boys being so sweet and curious about the reader's culture
w/c: 2.3k
a/n: punctuation goes for a toss in the middle, but it still makes sense i promise. :/
i wanted this to be a small (ish) oneshot but then got carried away in the introduction itself (being the angst and hurt/comfort simp i am), so its now a much longer fic, i hope ya'll like it tho!!
alsoo, i wanted to post this sometime just after rakshabandhan but unfortunately life got in the way and i couldn't finish it, so thats why this is coming out so late.
a quick rundown on rakshabandhan :)
for those who don't know, rakshabandhan is an indian festival that celebrates the relationship between a sister and brother. the sister tie a thread (traditionally known as a rakhi) on their brothers as a symbolic armour for his well-being and wish him prosperity and in return, the brother protects her.
it stems from an ancient traditional story when a queen named Rani Karnavati sent a rakhi to a powerful king, Humayun, asking for help — just like a sister would ask her brother. Humayun came to help her, showing that this bond of rakhi can bring people together like family, even if they aren’t born as siblings.
being a day off, something you all got to have sparingly, so everyone was doing their own thing. felix was making brownies in the kitchen, chan, changbin and hyunjin were at the gym, hyunjin had gone to an art exhibit he had seen a brochure for recently, han and leeknow had gone to a new
icecream parlor they saw the other day while coming back from work, jeongin and seungmin had gone for a walk and to take some pictures for their individual instagrams.
it was a few days before august started, your mother calling another year to ask if you would be able to make it to the puja, and you disappoint her again with the news that you wont, your mom expressing her dislike for your job once more, like she does every year, multiple times, almost every time you both conversed.
"maa, you know if i was able to make it, i would." you said, tired of all the complaining.
"well, it seems like you never try. ever since you've gone to korea, and started living with those boys, its like you don't have time for us at all. we never should've let you go." she said, disdain in her voice. You hated how she emphasized on the word, like it was something dirty, something to be picked on.
"the boys mean the world to me, don’t say anything against them. and no, i dont have a choice if i can come or not. im contract bound." i say, exasperated.
“wow, you defend them over your family? Are they more important to you than us? The one that actually raised you? I knew you were a disappointment.” she said, bringing tears to your eyes.
“maa, dont say that. you know that’s not true.” you said, voice getting smaller.
“then how come your ‘boys’ get to go home when it's christmas or whatever their holiday is.” she demanded.
“they dont! many years they’ve stayed here instead of going to their homes, since we have to perform or have another variety show to go to. there is a lot that goes behind the scenes that the public doesn’t see. why cant you understand that? i know i havent been coming home as frequently as i used to, its cause we have so much more on our plates, and have so much more to prepare for! and i don’t come home for sometime, and i am a disappointment now?” you exclaimed. You could handle all her critics, her jabs, her comments that were aimed for you, but nothing against the boys, they all held a special place in your heart, you wouldn’t handle a word against them, no matter who it came from.
“well then, if your boys mean so much to you, you can have them. you are no longer welcome here. this isn't your home now. good luck finding one with this ungrateful attitude of yours.” she finalised and hung up the phone and your heart dropped.
you just stood there, your phone in your hand. processing what she just said.
“this number is no longer available”
no way
no way she blocked you
her daughter.
saying that you weren’t expecting this would be a lie. You recognized your mom and her toxic behaviours, you could just never bring yourself to cut ties. She’s your mom. How could u?
but apparently she didn't have the same woes. she didn’t have a second thought and just did it.
you laughed, but it was a hollow one. you didn't know how to feel. on one hand, you were relieved because you didn’t have to deal with her toxic words and actions again, but on the other hand, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss.
the boys used to point out her toxic actions and traits that used to wear you down, so you knew, it would be good for you in the long run.
“heyy, is everything okay? heard you yelling a little.” felix asked, poking his head through your open door. seeing your red eyes he immediately panicked and rushed to you.
“Yes, im fine felix. I just need a moment.” you said, not wanting the literal sunshine to see you like this.
“okay, im not gonna push you but please know that you can tell me anything right? I wont judge you.” he said, holding my arms.
“its my mom, she wants me to come home, for rakshabandhan, but i can’t because of the schedule. When i told her, she told me that she’d had enough and then she blocked me.” i said, tears welling up in my eyes again, as i wiped my face.
“oh, im so sorry y/n.” felix said, bring me into his arms. I accepted the hug, breaking it off after sometime and taking me to the kitchen, insisting he make something for me.
“what’s rakshabandhan? I know its a festival but thats basically all that i know.” he asked after whipping a quick mug cake for me.
“It’s a festival for brothers and sisters. where the sister ties a thread of sorts - called a rakhi, on their brother’s wrist, wishing for his prosperity and well-being, and in return, the brother protects the sister.” i explained to him, showing stuff on my phone as well to help him understand, also having a bit of the sweet treat he made me and groaning at the taste.
“That sounds so beautiful, im sorry u couldnt celebrate it with your family this year.” he said, empathy evident in his eyes.
“that’s alright Lixie, i honestly was expecting this, i knew she didn’t want me, and was just looking for a reason to kick me out. It definitely hurts, but i am glad that she wont weigh me down as much anymore.” i said and he smiled.
“that’s good.” he said as he got a spoon for himself and went in for a big scoop of my cake. I quickly snatched it away before he could have some.
“hey! I made that for you, let me have some!” he exclaimed. I just grinned in return, before i realised, someone had come up from behind me and picked me up, causing me to yelp in surprise as i kept the cup on the counter. Felix laughed loudly as he went for it.
“no! My cake!!” i exclaimed and the person put me down, i turned around and saw seungmin behind me, giving me an evil smile.
“ugh!! kim seungmin you’re gonna have it!” i said as i chased him with my spoon.
“heyy! what’s going on here?” 3racha came from the studio room, seeing seungmin on the ground, me on top of him, threatening him with a spoon.
“I don’t wanna know.” declared and walked to where felix was, chan was just laughing heartily at the situation while changbin was recording the whole ordeal.
han walked to felix, having some of the cake as well when his eyes fell on the phone kept open on the counter. Asking felix about what it is and he explained it to the producer.
“ohh, that sounds so nice. do you think she’d want to celebrate it with us?” han proposed.
“i don’t know, but she might be open to it? let's ask her,” felix said, but stopped abruptly.
“but after we finish this.” he completed his sentence. both sunshines laughed as they finished the remaining cake. by the time they did, the commotion outside had quieted down.
both of them went out and found that others sprawled out on the couch. hyunjin, jeongin and leeknow had also joined them, the three of them looking like they had just come from dance practice.
“hey y/n, would u like to celebrate rakshabandhan with us?” felix proposed as he walked out to the couch. curious and confused voices rose in the room, everyone asking each other what ot meant, but not knowing anything, they turned to han, felix and you.
“y/nnie what’s that?” hyunjin asked and you explained the festival to the rest of the boys as well, explaining how the topic came up and the recent conversation you had with your mom.
“Im so sorry y/n, but that does sound quite beautiful. If you like, we would love to spend it with you.” chan spoke up.
“that actually sounds like a good idea. I would love that.” you said, smiling as all of them started asking you what the other had to do to help you with the preparations.
-----
The preparations started a week before the festival. the boys were ready to do anything y/n told them, even if she didn’t feel the need for them to do the work they were putting in, it definitely made her feel at home, she always did with them.
“are you sure about that? you don’t have to.” y/n asked the boys when they said they wanted to wear indian clothing.
“Yes, i’ve always wanted to try them and see what they would look like on me!” jeongin said.
“okay, if you insist. i’ll order a kurta for each of you then.” y/n said excitedly and got to work immediately.
“yayy, im so excited. Is there anything else you need us to do?” jeongin asked, walking up to where you were making a list on the stuff that needed to be done.
“not really actually. we just need some stuff but that all can be made and we don’t need it unless the night before anyways. so no work needs to be done.” y/n explained while ordering all of them a kurta each.
-----
It was the night before rakshabandhan and the boys were looking at y/n curiously as she pasted small papers with various sentences on each side of all the doors of the house.
“y/n what do these sentences say?” han asked, voicing what everyone was thinking.
“There r multiple sentences, this one means, rakshabandhan’s festival gives rise to the love between a brother and his sister, the others are chants in hindi.” y/n explained as the boys nodded their head, understanding.
“That’s so beautiful.” seungmin said softly and y/n smiled.
“Yea, it is isnt it?”
-----
“Come on boys, its time for the puja! And i want to see all of you in the kurtas I bought for you!” y/n called out from down the stairs. All of them came down, wearing the same kurtas but in different colours. She was wearing a red salwar kameez herself with beading around the border and a red dupatta to match.
“Dang, y’all look good! We need to take photos once we’re done with the puja.” y/n said and all the boys agreed.
“Do you want any help setting up for the puja?” Lee know asked.
“Yes actually, if you can help set up the plate for the puja, that would be great!” y/n said and gave instructions on what to set where and what all to put in the plate itself.
“Ouu, the rakis look so cool!” Felix exclaimed once he saw the set of rakis y/n had brought out.
“I’m glad that you like them!” y/n exclaimed excitedly.
-----
After a few misunderstandings, a couple mis placements and some confusion, everyone was finally ready for the puja. y/n led them to the mandir she had set up in the house where she prayed occasionally and instructed the others to put the plates down and to sit in an oval. She led the chants and mantras.
The boys were mesmerised by the melody and tune of the mantras and aartis that y/n sang. Even though it wasn’t meant to be a performance per say, it definitely felt like it to them, the way y/n looked entranced in the notes, singing the words so beautifully. Even if they didn’t understand the language, they were captivated by the way y/n portrayed it.
Changbin and Hyunjin were holding bells in each hand, shaking it to the beat of the mantra.
“Come, its time to tie the rakhis.” y/n declared, turning around towards the boys and their eyes lit up.
“I’ll start with you Innie.” y/n said as she smiled sweetly, he came in the front and held his wrist out like a little kid, so excited to see which rakhi he would get. Everyone watched as y/n’s nimble fingers gave him a red tika along with the rice on his forehead, handed him a dry coconut and fed him some sweets and then tied two rakhis to his wrist.
“Smile!” Han cheered as he clicked a picture of both of them. Everyone slowly came up and did the same.
“Thank you for this Felix. I didn’t know I needed this.” y/n said to felix once he came for his turn. The sunshine smiled sweetly and said that he would do anything for y/n if it meant that he could see her smile.
“Let’s all take a picture!” y/n exclaimed once everyone had their rakis on their wrist. All of them gathered chaotically around y/n and yelled at the camera, while showing off their wrists and the red thread that decorated them.
“Now, one last thing to do. The papers we stuck yesterday, we need to paste these strings called norte around them like a necklace.” y/n explained and all of them got to work. Within minutes, every door had norte around the papers.
“Now, we have something for you.” Seungmin announced. y/n looked at him, confused.
“What do you mean?” SHe asked as she saw everyone hiding something behind their backs.
“You know, you never told us that the sisters get gifts from the brothers on rakshabandhan as well?” jeongin said.
“Well, it slipped my mind?” y/n tried to salvage herself.
“Good for you, we have gifts anyway!” Chan exclaimed and everyone brought out wrapped boxes of all different kinds from behind their backs. y/n laughed as she realised how many gifts she had gotten and smiled from ear to ear.
omgg, im so happy you liked it!! i was so scared i missed something somewhere and was NAWT confident posting it, but seeing the response has made me so happy <33
Han Jisung constantly being reduced to some lesser version of himself for struggles with anxiety/mental health, being rampantly feminized because he’s become 1/2 of the face of a popular ship within the fandom and consequently not fairly recognized for the sheer individual GENIUS he is; finally making a personal instagram and casually posting all the song covers he wants to, getting 3 tattoos in one session just because he can. Trusting us enough to share what the tattoos are on a fancall- sharing little tidbits of his personal life when he’s ready, and keeping things sacred to him when he’s still able to. Seeing him have this autonomy over himself and embrace the creative person he is and always has been is so, so refreshing. Maybe we’ll never know him beyond a killer instagram song cover, we’ll never see his baby photos or perhaps even bear witness to his first few tattoos. But we do know he cried 3 times watching the movie “Up”. And the little glimpses we get into his personality and his artistic vision as he walks this fine line between privacy and rawness as an idol are nothing short of endearing. I don’t know what was in those contract renegotiations, but he’s never seemed more like himself.
Han Jisung my multi-faceted muse. Do whatever you want if it means you’ll always be this fulfilled
