um i just looked up the wikipedia entry for unwind and holy shit?? why have i never heard of this series before it looks so twisted
mimi hi! i saw this ask while i was at school and had to wait bc boy do i have a lot to say about unwind (I apologize in advance u probably weren’t looking for the rant this will turn into)
the unwind fandom is like. 17 people on a good day,, and it kills me bc these books are so good like honestly my fav thing I’ve read since hp. i haven’t actually read the wikipedia entry but I’m sure it’s weird af and therefore accurate to the books but please!! don’t let its twistedness stop u from reading them!! (this is where i start to sound like an advertisement) (no seriously i wrote a good 1.5k words to my friend abt why she should read these books. I’ll spare you the details and give u a condensed list of reasons)
1. the characters!!! the character development!!! the best characters and development I’ve seen since hp; i honestly fell in love w nearly every one of them and even the ones I didn’t I could still understand them and cry bc they were so well written
2. the plot!! i mean judging from the entry u read it must sound intense and it is, but it’s amazing. keeps you on your toes (almost) the whole time and lets u have little breaks for character development when it’s getting too intense
3. the romance!! is so!! well written!! none of that insta love stuff it’s built on real relationships and trust and ahhh i could rant abt it all day bc pretty much all of the romances in these books are perfect imo
4. the worldbuilding. again the wikipedia entry probably gives some of this away but oh my god. it’s so good. neal shusterman just kind of slips it in when you’re not looking. and in the later books, in between sections they have an article about some type of actually real, recent discovery in organ donation/medical sciences/transplants/whatever is relevant to the book at the moment and it really makes you think about the future and how this book is more real than you’d think and it’s so cool
5. the series is honestly so well written. there are these moments where things get so intense that you’ll think of them for days afterward and when you think you’re finally over them they come back and haunt you (sometimes in a really nice way, other times you just cry) and these moments can just. stick with you for years I can remember the first time I read these parts and I’d make a list of them for you but it would spoil things but just. god.
6. canon lgbt and poc representation!! i can’t say too much bc i don’t want to spoil but two dads are introduced in book 1 and they’re incredibly cool, native americans have a huge role in book 3 and 4, there’s more
7. and if aLL THAT wasn’t enough: the first book is supposed to be made into a film!! soon!(?)
(im so sorry this is so long and probably not what u wanted at all but) pls pls read unwind
