I had a 7am workout buddy today! Taught @lida_suos some full body exercises on the cable machine and got some core work in too. Always feels good to get up and get my workout done early! #workoutbuddy #igfitness #ignutrition #fitfam #fitgirls #riseandgrind #riseandrunfitness #earlybirds #healthymind #loseyourself #gym #gymtime #healthyliving
In order to build proper muscle, it is very important that you eat an appropriate diet. Your body needs the proper nutrients as well as enough calories in order to provide the energy your muscles need for them to rebuild after an intense workout. Your meals should have the proper amount of protein and carbohydrates.

Morning Motivation
âI donât know how you get up so early.â
I hear it all the time from family, friends, and co-workers. When I go to work at 10am I have already had breakfast, a good work-out, a shower, and a mid-morning snack. Iâve turned into a morning person to the point that âsleeping-inâ for me means waking up at 8am instead of 6am. Now, I realize that not everyone is a morning person and that plenty of people prefer to work-out in the evening. But if youâre like me, you know that if you donât work-out in the morning you wonât work-out at all. Here are a few tips to make those early mornings a little easier:
1. PLAN AHEAD. This is crucial! If you go to bed at night thinking you might work-out in the morning, chances are slim that it actually happens. But if you are thinking about it, push yourself a little further the night before and start getting ready before you go to bed. Set out your gym clothes and shoes, for one. You can even prepare your breakfast the night before. (I love overnight oats! Pinterest has some great recipes.) Sometimes I go as far as to make some coffee and put it in the fridge so that all I have to do in the morning is pour it over ice with some almond milk and stevia. When you wake up and know that everything is ready to get you up and moving and to the gym, itâs a lot easier.
2. EAT RIGHT. Vague, Â I know. Blah, blah, blah exercise and eat right to be healthy. But not just that. If you come home from a long day at work and have a large pizza for dinner and a bowl of ice cream before bed, itâs going to be harder to jump out of bed the next morning. But if you prepare a nice salmon, with brown rice pasta and asparagus (my favorite meal), and maybe a small bowl of cottage cheese before bed if you need it, youâll be surprised not only at how much easier it is to get up, but by the level of energy you have before, during, and after your work-out.Â
3. SLEEP. I canât stress enough the importance of getting enough sleep. The body needs time to rest and recover after the amount of stress you put it through during the day. Not only that, it needs time to absorb the nutrients that you put into it with each meal. If you have plans to get up for an early morning workout, donât stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning. Go to bed early enough to get enough sleep. When I get up at 5am for a 6am workout, itâs not so bad because I went to bed at 10pm or earlier. As they say, muscles are torn in the gym, fed in the kitchen, and built in bed. Get yourself some sleep!
4. BUILD A ROUTINE. The first day of getting up early and getting to the gym or out the door for a run will be the hardest. Guaranteed. But if you are serious about getting your workouts done in the morning before you officially start your day, it needs to officially become part of your daily routine. The first night will be hard to go to bed early, especially if your body is not used to it. But if you can push yourself to get through that first day of getting up early and making it through the day, I promise youâll be ready to crawl into bed that night at 9pm and do it all over again the next day.
If you have any questions or are looking for more tips, send me a message! Until then, enjoy your workout!
If nothing else, be kind. Radiate positivity; this world could use it.

We All Start Somewhere
Today I was inspired by a conversation that I had with a co-worker. His girlfriend is interested in being my first official client (eee!) but sheâs nervous and embarrassed because she doesnât know what to do or where to start. I gave him a few tips to pass on, and hereâs a few more:Â
Everybody starts somewhere.  When I made the decision to get healthy and to get to the gym I put it off for weeks. Months, even. The thought of going into a gym where I didnât know anybody and I didnât know what to do or where to start was scary. And intimidating. I didnât want the âbody-buildersâ to look at me and laugh at the fact that I was wandering around like a lost puppy.Â
We are all there for the same reason. After a few days of getting more familiar with my surroundings and checking out the different types of equipment and all of the interesting (and sometimes very strange) people around me, I realized that we were all there for the same reason: to get healthy! To better ourselves! And then I felt ridiculous for ever feeling like someone would make fun of me for not knowing my way around, because at least I was there!
One step at a time. Walking in the door is a HUGE step whether it feels like it or not. Itâs the first step toward better health, a happy heart, and a clear mind. Youâre not going to be a body-builder after a week of going to the gym. Youâre not going to walk out that first day with a new six-pack on your tummy. But youâve made the first step: getting through the doors. Thatâs something to be proud of.Â
Donât be afraid to ask questions. There are staff members there for a reason. If you donât know how to use a machine, ASK. If you donât know where to start, ASK. Most gyms offer free fitness assessments when you sign-up...take advantage of it! And if you can afford it, sign up for a few personal training sessions. Personal trainers are there to teach you how to work out, when to work out, and how to maximize your time in the gym. Before you know it, youâll feel at home.Â
You donât need a gym to workout. Donât use the price of a gym membership be the reason that you donât workout! There are SO many other options to help you get started. Check out youtube videos/channels. (Yoga With Adriene is GREAT) Ask your friends. Look for independent personal trainers. You can find free workouts anywhere these days. The point is that you get up and get moving!
Donât be afraid to start. Be stronger than your strongest excuse.Â
