She always had a place at her mother’s right.

Silent and watchful, the girl didn’t fully understand what the adults were talking about. Her presence there might be considered pointless, but her mother never explained herself to anyone. And sure enough, there was much to learn indeed.

Lorelei liked to watch her mother instead of the old, wrinkly committee board. They were irascible and mocking, but Mrs. Hendrix never let them throw her off her game. When they jested, she took a moment to recollect her smile and straighten her back, then continued to present her meticulous arguments – arguments, the girl knew that had been painfully researched for nights before because not only once did she have to put a blanket over her sleeping shoulders.

Later, when she’s older, Lorelei would notice how things changed: now people gave presentations in front of her mother, almost shaking with the fear of their proposals being rejected – the power had shifted. Irremediably? She hoped yes, maybe. After all, she fully believes it’s for the best. She’s passionate to make it be so, because of her mother, her role model. Lorelei believes they always made the best team.

She always had a place at her mother’s right.

But now she is silent and watchful; her fingernails dig into her palm while Lorelei speaks to the board, enthusiasm in her voice and a light in her eyes.

It’s strange, to know something so intrinsically. She’s five, weedy and most definitely her father’s daughter a thin whip of a girl who towers over her pale lilac gaggle of young creationists. They say, she has her father’s hands, that she will bring the world to tears with the delicate melodies, boil the wrath in their chests with pounding, aching drums.

She has her father’s hands. Those that were made to sculpt and rend, to create from nothing, to build a world in her image - not to rattle keys or jangle platitudes at a symphony. She knows the dull look in her father’s eyes. Knows it in the pale stretch a smile over his face, teeth too sharp and too white, just a smidge too wide.

Manic Violet.

She doesn’t learn to love his music. He might even have been satisfied by it, after so many years of fooling himself.

But she won’t be.

She was born to carve.

Father: Benjamin - looks like Tom Selleck, age 72 - currently retired formerly a chief engineer of a cargo spaceship.

Mother: Sophia - looks like Sigourney Weaver, age 68 - hovercraft mechanic.

Oldest Sister: Zoe - looks like Kate Beckinsale, age 44 - heavy equipment mechanic like construction vehicles.

Middle Sister: Natalie - looks like Laura Prepon, age 37 - small engine mechanic (specifically motorboats / yachts).

Youngest Sister: Chloe - looks like Cobie Smulders, age 35 - hovercraft mechanic.

Quentin Issac - looks like Tyler Hoechlin, age 30 - Chief Engineer of the SSS Viper.

Writing challenge!

Guuuuyyyssss!!!!! We're so close to opening!! And what better way to celebrate that than to give out random prizes to lucky members?? Last time the challenge was all about images and moodboards, this time we thought we'd do it a bit differently: A writing challenge!

We'll be giving a few prompts and then you guys can write a small snippet about it. It should be short, no more than 200 words, with no minimum word count. The winner will be chosen at random, and we'll be giving 100 Points* to a character of their choice (and maybe an achievement to everyone who participates, wink wonk ;;)) )
