I only ordered one thing for myself during Prime Day. That thing was a set of kitchen knives, because sometimes being an adult is staggeringly boring. I’ve never actually had a set of decent knives though, mostly using a seven dollar piece of shit from Target, and I’d been on the lookout for something better. The deal was good, the knives were good, so fuck it, now I have knives.
They just arrived, and I’m going to confess that I was a little excited to get them, though please know that I feel some degree of disappointment with myself over that fact. I opened the box, pulled them out, and set to cleaning them. Because excited or not, I do not want to have to spend this much on fucking knives again any time soon, so you can be sure I’ll take care of them.
I pull them out of their block and admire how shiny and I’m probably going to go buy celery and shit later just so I can chop the fuck out of SOMETHING. Then I come to this one knife.
The box assures me this knife is a slicer, but I am positive that what they’ve really given me is A WEAPON TO BEGIN MY EPIC QUEST AND DISCOVER MY TRUE DESTINY

Does that not look like the knife you’d find buried in a box in the attic among your long lost parent’s personal affects. You just that second happened to discover it when you receive word from the panicked citizens that dire rats have invaded the village grain store. YOU AND YOU ALONE will brave this infestation, and while you’re down there you encounter a mysterious stranger who recognizes your trusty blade from the exploits of the parent you never knew. They tell you that you are THE ONE, and you must leave the comforts of your home behind you, armed only with this absurdly sized kitchen utensil and probably like a tin pot on your head or something. And thus you go forth to do battle with THE GREAT THREATENING EVIL THING and save the world.
Like that is totally what I got from Amazon, which makes it an even better deal, to be honest.

I’m tired of people romanticizing overexertion. Exhausted is not the new chic, coffee (though a delicious necessity) is not a food group, and running on fumes is not admirable. Why do we hold pedestals for sleepless nights, breakdowns, and inner turmoil? Are those really things to aspire to? Self-care. Balance. The ability to know when your body, mind, and spirit need to take a step back. Those are things we should admire. We have to stop blurring the line between ‘commitment’ and self-endangerment because too many people are burning out before they have a chance to truly shine.

Actually ... it’s mine (Dramatic reverb.) But I’m just the day-monkey who cut it. There’s been a parade of closers who ... are ... like, supposed to clean out the line occasionally? Like, you know, when they close? (although I should really not be surprised because they generally can’t manage to dump the bleach buckets at the end of the night strangle strangle) (added bonus apparently the health inspector was in over the weekend and did not find the aged cheesecake.)
I gave Mr B the cupcake dog stare until he agreed to upgrade his peanut butter ice cream sandwiches with the blackberry vanilla. We sampled them this evening, along with the new batch of banana. This shit’s our ticket to the big time – it’s the best PB&J of your life. (”Like, objectively,” said Mr B, “that’s some goddamn delicious ice cream.”) (In the middle of making this post, we had a minor freezer crisis, and there was a frantic scramble to save the sandos. Small business adventures.)

I had this revelation at work today.

You have this ridiculous, unnecessary, unwieldy spoon, and you can do stuff with it that you couldn't if you just had a reasonable number of normal spoons (YOU NEED TO DIG A PIT? YOU NEED TO BLUDGEON A TROLL? YOU NEED TO WORK 135 HOURS IN TWO WEEKS WHILE SLEEPING FIVE HOURS A NIGHT? YEAH!)
But there’s no spoons allotted for normal-sized things. There isn't a spoon for eating your cereal, or, like, making your life run properly. Maintaining your clever Responsible Adult disguise.
