The thing about a good character flaw is that it has to be the same thing as their greatest strength just turned up too high. the person who loves deeply and therefore controls. the person who sees everything and therefore trusts nothing. the person who is so loyal they lose themselves. there are no clean villains and no clean heroes and once you understand that in fiction you can't unsee it in people. everyone is just their best quality at the wrong volume.
What kind of animal do you relate your OC to?
doomed by the narrative but not to death. doomed to survive. doomed to stay alive inside the story. doomed to never escape the narrative, not even through death. you are allowed no exit. there is no way out for you and there never was. you couldn’t die if you wanted to. the narrative has a hold on you and it won’t let go. death is too sweet a doom for you. the story has something much worse in mind. there is no way out.

Ways to spark your writing again!! PART TWO
✧ write a character who spends the whole book chasing someone else's dream because it was easier than admitting they never had one of their own
✧ let a character be the villain in someone else's story and never find out
✧ write two people who could have been something, if either of them had just gone first
✧ let a character realize they've been grieving someone who's still alive
✧ write a character who was never taught how to be loved gently, only earned
✧ a character returns to the town they swore they'd never come back to, and finds out it was never the town's fault
✧ let a character discover the sacrifice they thought was noble was actually just fear wearing a nicer name
✧ write someone who finally says the thing out loud, only to realize the other person already knew
✧ a character spends years building a version of themselves no one asked for
✧ let two former best friends become strangers who are somehow still polite to each other
✧ write a character who realizes they've spent their whole life being someone's backup plan
✧ a character finally stops waiting for someone to change and has to decide what that means about staying
✧ write someone who was the favorite, and never learned how to be anything else

Ava is one of these characters, whom I keep dragging to a different alternative universes.
She is my playground for all my fantasies about the once gifted child who is now an anxious, burnt-out adult.
She has an infamous Full Metal alchemist AU (which really only bears a very superficial resemblance to the original work).
There is also an elaborate Doctor Stone alternate universe, and I play her in a Victorian Ravenloft tabletop game/ as a Vaesen ttrpg player character.

That’s my Usagi Yojimbo original character, Toko! She and her father are travelling medicine sellers. (Sometimes the two of them also solve crimes.) I have her for a long time now but I still think she is so cute!
There are actually some rather interesting facts about the travelling medicine sellers of the Edo period. I’m attaching an article so that I can find it again later.
