We're aware of your "empathetic" powers in the sense you can feel what others are feeling. But I gotta ask! How far does that power extend and, do you actually FEEL what they are feeling, or are just aware of it and feel it separately from their feelings.
Ex: Someone is feeling angry, do you feel that anger? Or do you know it's there and react accordingly with your own feelings?
And is it the same for Dream?
"I would say the reach of my... skills vastly relies on the surrounding negativity āwhich is to say, of course, the universal balance of that specific location. Of course, that wouldn't be the whole explanation; I assume that what you're truly interested in is the way I feel emotion beyond the veil that separates Universe from the rest of existence.
To explain it more clearly, I shall give you something to compare: imagine you are inside a platform made of glass, yes? And that, to say, that same platform has... Torches, which you'd be able to detect even if everything was clouded in darkness. In an Universe filled with positivity, (or shadows, as our metaphor leads) I would only be able to see this platform, and the single torch that crowns it.
In a Universe full of negativity āa platform of glass full of torchesā, I would be able to see beyond the platform I stand onā and much farther away, since the light would, also, shine upon the ground I am not touching. My reach would be greater, considerably so. However, when you see so much lightā it is only common to blind yourself to the dark, yes? Positive Universes would be difficult to reach, much more so than if I laid in a neutral-positive leaning one.
In a negative multiverse, however... most platforms would be visible, one way or the other. There's nothing I cannot see if light comes from the sky itself, as to say. Which would be why, to tilt the balance of the multiverse... It is quite appealing.
Regarding our empathy skillsā well, I won't deny the latter. We are aware of what we are feelingā but it's not as if we are, viscerally, feeling the emotion as if it was our own. I am not such a masochist that I would desire to feel the Universe fall into despair just to taste the feeling as if it was my own, yes? I assume my brother lives for the same principle.
Saying that... Hm. I would say, feelings... It is odd to describe it. How would you describe vision, or touch? How to tell a deaf man how sounds feel in your ears?
We have a basic... feeling, for it. Its basic state, at least, when our reigning emotion doesn't quite synchronize with the AU itself, and how it leans. It is... to taste something, with your skinā but not touching. A sound, but far too personal to be considered so. However, if the feeling is stronger...
I know my brother is able to smell positivity, in some sense. I, myself, taste negativity. What we both share, however, is that, if we close our eyes... We can see the emotion move. Quite a curious thing, is it not? That resembles the way our mother used to gauge her way into the world.
How would Killer react if someone tried to put something in our drink at a party?

Although people of any gender could be the perpetrator or victim, for these examples, the perpetrator is a man.
Chances are, Killer notices any attempts as soon as they happen.
Killer is very observant. He's constantly watching his surroundings; he knows where the nearest entrance and exit is, who the biggest potential threat is, who's doing what, how many people are in the room...
He can't help it. It's hardwired into him at this point.
Buuuut, I'll give you two scenarios: One where Killer notices before you drink it, and one after.
Before:
That fucker's hand is snapped up so fast.
Good chance the drug isn't even fully sprinkled into your drink yet; it's still pinched between the dude's fingers. The drink nearly spills from the sudden motion, as his hand is ripped away from the glass, held crushingly within Killer's grip.
"hey there, bud."
Killer's smile is as far away from friendly as it can get. The corners are impossibly sharp, anger twisting his features into a cold, tense stare. He offers no warmth.
"last i checked, that ain't yours." His grip tightens, making the stranger wince.
The man gives little response, muttering quick phrases like, "Dude, chill, let go," confirming Killer's suspicions.
Killer's voice lowers, only audible enough for the man to hear; "give me one good reason why i shouldn't kill you."
"I was justāyou're being stupid. I wasn'tā"
"oh? you can't?" He tugs the man impossibly closer, grip so tight it could crack a bone if the pressure were angled just right.
And unfortunately for this guy, Killer knows the exact spot.
Killer then turns to give you a flat, "i'll be back," and pulls the man towards the nearest exit.
If you protest (either because you're confused about the whole situation and didn't see the drug, or just don't want Killer to do... whatever he's about to do), Killer would give you a deceivingly sweet look paired with a gentle tone, mentioning how he'll be right back, feel free to go find a nice table, he'll come find you in a minute ā¤ļø
...All while slowly dragging this guy outside.
Killer's expression immediately flips to a terrifyingly cold, automated grin when he turns away from you, giving the man a harsh shove out the door.
Killer returns in a couple minutes with a, "sorry to keep you waitin', gorgeousāoh, this table's nice~" then he completely guides the subject before you can even ask a single question.
It's hard for you to piece together what happened considering his calm demeanor paired with a clean appearance, showing no signs of a scuffle of any sorts. That makes one of them...
Killer probably didn't KILL him. Probably.
Besides, he's trying to enjoy a night out with his partner. So adding a dead body to the mix? Talk about a mood dampener.
But if Killer catches even a singular glimpse of this guy ever again...
After:
Since Killer is on guard and attentive in his natural state, for someone to even be able to touch your drink, he'd have to be out of the equation.
So, here's a lil scenario (the writing's a lil lazy but it gets the idea across š¤·āāļø):
TW: Someone tries leading you away. Their intention is not explained/up for interpretation.
In the time it takes for Killer to go up and order you two a few more drinks, while his back was turned, someone had come up to you, gesturing your attention elsewhere to drop something into your drink before leaving abruptly.
There isn't much left in your drinkāhense why Killer had semi-chugged the rest of his a few minutes ago, that way, he could order another one for the both of you.
You'd told him what you wanted, to which he replied, "(random drink you didn't ask for)? got it, i'll be right back," earning him a bit of playful banter, to his enjoyment. He'd ended it with a "i know, i know," giving you a lingering kiss and telling you that he'll be right back with a wink.
...Which leads to now. The person who'd gotten your attention is already gone, leaving you to yourself with a nearly-empty glass. You drink up the last bit of it, because it looks like Killer will be back any time now, the two drinks are already on the barābut your face immediately scrunches as the drink hits your tongue, dry swallows following the initial gulp.
Holy fuck. Why did it taste like that??
Maybe it's because that was the end of the drink? But...
Killer's already back, pulling your attention away from the horrid drink you just swallowed down.
He notices the remnants of your sour expression, cocking a brow bone.
"you good?"
You clear your throat in hopes of dispelling the foul memory.
"Yeahāthe bottom of that drink tasted like shit."
Killer simply snickers and hands you the new glassā "well good thing your loving amazing deserving-of-all-your-adoration boyfriend got you a new one, huh?"
God, he's such a nerd. And you love him for it.
Does that make you a nerd, too?
Oh well.
The night goes wonderfully, with you two chatting it up and Killer trying to make you laugh. Y'know, the usual.
Except...
Except his jokes are beginning to hit a little too hard.
Killer notices it after making one-too-many horrible punchlines; your laughs have grown more and more giggly with every attempt he makes. At this point, you're practically giggling like a drunk man.
You'd usually roll your eyes with a fond smile, so this is... weird. I mean, Killer enjoys the extra attention, but something's...
"you good over there?" Killer laughs, grin slanted.
You smile in response, sneaking a "Yeah" through the giggles.
...He's not sure.
You're weirdly agreeable, even as Killer drags you out onto the dance floor when a slow dance song comes on. Your movements are a little loopy, but you seem to be having fun, so... alright.
That just means you'll be leaning against him a little extra for a few of the moves, which he is not about to complain about.
...Until your eyes suddenly glaze over before you stumble, nearly hitting the floor.
Killer's arms are around you in an instant to stop your fall. The usual grin on his face fades quick.
"babe?"
You mumble something incoherent in response as people turn to stare.
You're unresponsive when Killer prompts you again, so he carefully leads you away from the crowd, taking most of your weight as you sway uncoordinatedly. He sits you down at the small table you two occupied earlier, kneeling in front of you to get a better look at your face.
Your eyes are drooping, blinks slow, eyes unfocused as you stare off into space.
Killer snaps his fingers in front of your eyes.
You blink, gaze slowly finding his.
Then you blink again.
...Something is terribly wrong. He needs to get you out of here.
Before Killer can teleport the two of you, his head snaps to the side as an unfamiliar voice speaks close behind.
"Do you need any help?"
Killer's gaze meets the stranger's immediately.
And it's... just some dude. The most average dude Killer's ever seen.
As if the stranger never even spoke, Killer turns his attention back to you, his hands running gently down your arms until they reach your hands. He takes yours in his, giving them a small squeeze.
All you do is blink tiredly, eyebrows furrowing slightly. At least your eyes are somewhat on his, as they shift from watching his left socket, to his right, then back to the left...
The stranger's hand comes to rest atop your shoulder.
Killer smacks it away in an instant, whipping back around as his mouth presses into a strained grin.
"don't touch them."
"Here, I can help." The man considers placing his hand back on you, but decides against it when Killer's grin sharpens threateningly.
Instead, he crouches down to look you in the eyes.
And Killer's about five seconds away from kicking this guy's balls in.
"Here, come with me," he says, gesturing for you to follow.
Is... is he seriously talking to you? Is he stupid?
But Killer tenses the moment you mumble a "Mmk..." and begin to stand up.
Fuck no.
Killer immediately pushes you back into your seat, hand lingering to keep you down.
"See," the man continues, reaching out again, "they want to go with me, I canā"
"touch them again and i'll break your fucking arm." Killer's past snarky comebacks and taunting. He's worried and pissed off.
"Woah, chill manā" The man backs up a step as he shouldā "it ain't even that deep. Just trying to help."
"i don't need your help." Killer turns back to you, muttering a quiet, "c'mere baby," arms wrapping around your middle to teleport you out. He's done with this shit.
The man suddenly steps in, attempting to push you two apart.
"I'm serious, I canā"
Killer snaps, shoving him off so hard the man nearly stumbles to the floor. Killer then straightens up, standing between you and this uncomfortably insistent stranger.
"fuck off."
God, why is this guy so persistent?! This ain't even "taking a hint;" it's a goddamn pistol to the temple. And he's still acting oblivious.
Killer doesn't get it. Why is this guy...
So...
...
Your empty glass still lies at the back of the table.
Killer snatches it up, bringing the glass to his nose.
The man's eyes drop to a confused glare.
"What are you doing?"
Killer offers no response.
He looks to the man, his eyes intently watching you, shrouded with dark ill intention.
Then Killer looks to your dazed, exhausted form, eyes fluttering shut as your breaths grow heavy.
i genuinely donāt think Iāve seen another person talk about Dreamās aura. Not really. It is one of the most interesting and kind of scary parts of his powers. It is canon that he can effectively overdose people on positivity and they can become obsessed. It doesnāt happen all the time because he is constantly on the move, but it can happen. It can make them fall in love normally too. We also see Nightmare do very similar things in the opposite direction, only his aura, much stronger, turns people in mindless killing things rather than people. Dreamās aura is much more subtle. Maybe you wouldnāt even notice it while he was there, his presence is always a calming sensation. A mood lifter from any stage of mood. But when he leaves, all that disappears in an instant. Love for him can never be guaranteed as ātrueā or just a hallucination of his soul. All of this weighs on him.
Color is not immune to its effects, though, I donāt think every person necessarily would act crazy because of it. I think it depends on how well a person can manage their reactions to their emotions, and how they process them mentally. I think Color doubts himself a little though, because he doesnāt like to be alone, and Dreamās departure is the most poignant loneliness one could ever feel.
