Promptathon posts start this SATURDAY!

Get ready for awkward dancing in a biker bar Promptathon post week!

Starting this Saturday, November 13, it’s time for authors & artists to share their works. Just be sure to tag @riverdalepromptathon​ in your post! We’ll be pulling together a masterlist of all prompts posted through the November 20 deadline (though you are of course welcome to continue posting after that if you need more time).

We can’t wait to see what everyone’s come up with!!!

Announcing the Riverdale Fall Promptathon!

Given…everything…going on lately, we here at @riverdalepromptathon think this fandom is in need of a pick-me-up. And not just that, but a pick-me-up that puts our focus back on what really matters: the beautiful fanworks that we’ve created, consumed, and shared as a community.

So this time, we’re not coming up with the prompts - you are! In the spirit of celebrating our own takes on these characters we love, we’re asking you to draw inspiration not from Riverdale canon, but from your favorite fics. Here’s how to participate:

PROMPT: Saturday, October 9 - Saturday, October 16

Authors will share a list of their own stories they’re accepting prompts for, using this post template. Maybe it’s all your fics, maybe it’s only a select few - it’s totally up to you.

Readers will send authors prompts about those stories. Was there a missing moment you wish was included in your favorite AU? Have you always wondered what happened after the happily ever after? This is your chance to prompt it!

Authors can also open up their existing works for other writers and artists to play around with. This one’s totally optional - we know not everyone is comfortable opening up a treasured take on their faves. But we wanted a way for fan artists and new writers who don’t have existing works yet to participate! If you’re open to seeing someone else’s take on your story, we hope you’ll throw it out there. (Anyone opening up their fic for others can list “rules” for interested creators to follow - e.g. nothing E-rated, no ship swapping, etc.)

PRODUCE: Sunday, October 17 - Friday, November 12

Everyone works on their fic and their fanart!

POST: Saturday, November 13 - Saturday, November 20

All creative works are shared. While there’s no true hard deadline to post your contributions, we ask that if you’d like your work included in the master post we’ll be pulling together, you post it no later than November 20. Tag @riverdalepromptathon in your post so we can find you!

Hello. I am a small author that recently started writing. I was really excited about the promptathon... however the event doesn’t seem to be inclusive of authors like me who would like to write within their own universes but will most likely not get prompts sent in by readers for the event. I don’t want to come off as rude but the event as it is now makes me feel isolated and excluded... it seems to be catered more towards already established authors with bigger fanbases. 😔

This is a valid criticism. This second iteration of the promptathon is indeed different from the first, in hopes of encouraging readers and writers of fic to revisit already extant stories.

This is a little limiting—spring’s promptathon saw some participation from individuals who made fanart or edits. But revisiting old edits and building edits on top of those…what does that even mean? It’s not a thing. (Although—that sounds interesting. Anyone want to try it?) 

But as with spring’s contributions, we’ll be reblogging all completed author templates (just be sure to tag them, so we can find them!) This is a pretty small blog, but I can almost guarantee that you will receive prompts. 

This probably isn’t the last promptathon. Future promptathons will return to the earlier format: weekly prompts, open to fic, art, edits, etc. 

Also, because I think it should always be pointed out: this is not the only Riverdale-adjacent fanwork event! @riverdale-events is always planning something, and there are also character- and ship-specific events organized throughout the year. 

We hope you’ll choose to participate!
