a/n: none. maybe a part 2 if y'all like it but idk
imagine being best friends with reggie, captain of the bulldogs football team. watching him during practice whenever you could, attending every game on fridays to cheer him on, walking with him to pop’s on the weekends to work on homework and grab a milkshake in the process. you both have known each other since second grade, when he came up to you on the playground and asked if you would be his partner on the tire swing to help balance the weight of the swing evenly (he thought that because you both were the same height, obviously you would be the same weight. of course, due to biology, that wasn’t the case, but he didn’t understand that and asked you to be his swing buddy ever since, and with that your friendship took off). now that reggie went through puberty, everything about his physique changed: his height (almost a foot taller than you), his voice (deeper, louder, more profound), and his strength (hence his position on the football team). everyone in town noticed, and everyone in town felt more attracted to the sophomore, including you.
“so, have you seen the new girl?” reggie asks, taking one of your fries as you two sit in a booth at pop’s. “yea, i saw her touring riverdale high with betty’s help. i think her name is veronica?” you respond as you slap his hand away from your food and reach for the milkshake the two of you shared on the table.
“ahh. i heard she’s smokin’. at least that’s what moose and the guys told me during practice. then again, it’s not every day someone moves to this town so they’re all probably hungry for new meat around here.” you look up from the milkshake you were slowly sucking down and glare at him.
"reginald dominick mantle, what have i taught you about degrading women? what would your mother say?? wait, let’s give her a call!” you take your phone out, finger moving to call your best friend’s mother as a tease, as reggie himself takes back the statement, repeatedly apologizing and blaming the football team for influencing his thinking.
"please don’t call my mom, please? i’m begging you! i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry”
“now reggie, you’re gonna have to do more than that to change my mind” you smirk, pretending to press vicky mantle’s contact and holding the cell phone up to your ear. reggie slides out of the booth and moves to stand on the counter of pop’s.
“I’M REGGIE MANTLE AND I’VE JUST DEGRADED WOMEN. I’M PUBLICLY APOLOGIZING FOR THIS ATROCITY AND HEREBY PLEDGE TO NEVER SPEAK AS SUCH AGAIN” he yells, hands cupping around his mouth, causing pop’s customers to look up at the quarterback and murmur amongst themselves. you set the phone down as pop himself comes out from the back of the kitchen.
“get off that counter reggie, you’ll hurt yourself and you’re disturbing my customers. this is what, the hundredth time this year you’ve pulled this? it’s october!” pop remarks, turning to you and chuckling, adding, “y'all are still doing this?”
you just nod and laugh, replying, “he needs to learn his lesson pop! what better place is there than here to publicly apologize for a wrongdoing?”
“certainly not on the counter, he’ll break his neck. maybe at one of those football games of yours” pop says, patting a now-embarrassed reggie on the shoulder before turning back to the kitchen. reggie shrugs. “i did it. and you didn’t really call my mom, did you?”
you shake your head no, then laugh as you proceed to tell him he’s been forgiven. “it’s the feminist in me to set you straight, thank you for doing that reggie”
“i’ll doing anything for you. i was being a pig and i deserved it.”
if only he knew how much those words meant to you.
how did i do? thoughts?? part 2? let me know!
