Betty would be so heartbreaking because her whole story is about the yearning she does for you. Then she finally has you and afterwards the letter she would get? OUgh
And of course Skylar the one who made this all possible. You think she would feel guilt at the fact that she's the reason that not only had realized all people, but also was the reason why you met them in the first place?
Reggie did hate you, but you had been clever and somehow had gotten under his skin and now this letter? He hates you, actually hates you now. The pain, the angst AA
Celia and Florence having done so much to keep the household up, not finally free from that burden and yet the one who mattered so much slipping through their fingers and now wishing distance from them. I'm biting on the bars of my enclosure
@gears-twisting-and-turning
a/n ✒︎ YALL ARE FEEDING MY BRAIN WORMS SO WELL; just a heads up tho I haven’t played through MANY routes so if information is incorrect IM SORREYY
listen to she got away from chappell roan btw bc this song literally embodies this au so LOL
God just imagine the heartbreak Betty would experience :(( and it’s not like she didn’t communicate with you after the realization. In fact, she would constantly invite you over to her studio, and you’d show up with the cutest grin adorning your face. Betty then would insist you just need to stay nearby as she directs her actors. However, you would always manage to find work to do. Betty always appreciated it, rewarding you with many kisses. Her little lover and helper.
When Betty receives the your letter, she officially canceled multiple filming days for the first time ever. When did you start feeling this way? How didn’t she notice? You’re her lover for fucks sake, and yet she missed all the signs. Did she make you feel this way…?
If that’s the case, Betty’s glad you got away. She hopes you’ll be able to heal and recover from such a terrible mindset. And if it means she’ll never see you again?
Then so be it.
(So, no need to worry about her. She’ll deal with her guilt, loneliness, and the empty spot next to her alone. It’s nothing compared to the emotions she put you through. Betty would rather have her heart ripped out slowly just to see you smile once again.)
Skylar was the last one to be realized. The forgotten one. The tutorial character destined to be thrown aside for more conventional, more interesting leads. Yet you came back for her, ready to prove your truth no matter how long it would take: that you love her. It was only fair she did the same.
But after receiving your letter— reading it from top to bottom, multiple times until the sun began to set— tears streaming down her cheeks. Skylar’s whole existence is to give love… something you already did unconditionally. Yet, she left you all alone. She naively thought realizing everyone at your own pace would help with the heartache.
Skylar should’ve known the human heart will bleed in secrecy, no matter how much it’s hurting— than bother their loved ones.
(Had you always considered yourself as a ‘bother’? Despite her muddled mind, she continued to bring objects to life because it’s what she was made to do. Each time Skylar finalizes the process and sends them to explore the real word, the objects don’t mention her quivering hands.
If you ever come back with the little hope lingering in her chest, she’ll apologize. Then, if you never want to see her again, Skylar will do just that and disappear.
Because she wouldn’t forgive herself either.)
Okok so Reggie can react in two different ways about your letter. For the lighthearted readers, he 100% approves of what you’re doing. Is it also partially his fault and actively trying to crash out? Maybe. He honestly doesn’t knew whether to be proud or scornful, considering the fact he won’t be able to contact/see you either.
The second way is more angsty. Reggie would think it’s an hilarious prank you were pulling. The classic she-got-away move. He may not be the embodiment of hate anymore, but the emotion is engrained into his soul. It’s his livelihood. When he finally realizes you’re not coming back, he crashes out for real this time.
You were clever. Clever enough to get under his skin, ragebait him into state Reggie has never been in, and secured his love within ten minutes. Then you unbashfully showered him with your ‘hate’ everyday You participated in his groupie when he first made it. Every time Reggie’s eyes shined at the chaos, a mischievously grin displayed on his lips— you only gazed at the man tenderly. You would even brush a lock away from blocking his face.
(“Such a shame to cover your face, yeah? Let the world embrace who’s behind these misdeeds.”
Reggie practically preened at your words, that day, wordlessly leaning into your hand as he giggles. His one and only hater. He doesn’t acknowledge his heart fluttering at the way you would look at him.)
Yet, you decide to leave him behind anyways? Reggie’s hate organization began to wreak havoc even worse than before.
He grits his teeth as he launches a paper ball to signal the start of the groups usual crimes. Reggie feels stupid, and he briefly wonders if this is how Dorian felt like when he rejected him. Fine. If that’s how you want to play, then so be it. Your letter is in tatters— now being used as trashballs to throw at their suspecting victims.
(After all, the worst form of hate is to forget. So Reggie will do just that.)
Celia and Florence? They felt like they failed themselves, the other dateables, and most importantly— you.
Consistently managing and keeping order inside the house certainly causes headaches. However, you changed that. You freed them from their old burdens. Not only that, you taught them about society in general: how to act, what taxes are, medicine need when sick. When Florence felt overwhelmed at the information, you encouraged her. When Celia grew frustrated about her workload, you helped her relax. Then you would bid them farewell at the end of the day, departing with a kiss on their cheek.
Now you’re gone. No messages, no calls. Just a printed out letter mailed to their workplace. Florence wanted to immediately head to your place to apologize— to talk this out, but Celia stopped her, knowing you were long gone. They can only hope for your happiness. For your safety. Even when their stomach twists in desperation, unknowing if you even wanted them to care anymore.
(You had always teased them about their protection. Celia always made sure they received a text from you when arriving home. Under her usual classy demeanor, you knew it was a way to show her affection. You and Florence laugh about it everyday. After all, ensuring you’re safe proves the devotion they share.
With you gone, your text chat remains uncomfortably silent. Sometimes, Florence catches Celia just staring at her phone, almost hoping for something. A usual occurrence since you went MIA. Florence would then wrap her arms around her lover, no words being spoken.
On days where their phone does ding, they want to believe it’s you, texting that you’re back home safe and sound.

Reg had the radio playing softly as he came towards your house. His pick-up bounced side to side as he wore a smile. Just coming up the drive to your house after a long day doing deliveries (and grinding a hitchhiker with James) made his arms ache for you. He just wanted to treat you right: dinner, slow dance, cuddles, kisses, spending the night, and breakfast together. Reggie just wants to be with his special gal, the tightest girl ever to cross him at the flower shop, your shop.
You were the brightest and smartest smile he ever laid eyes on.
He parked his truck, fixed his hat, and checked again to see if there was blood on his face. He’ll never tell you what he and his brother have to do to make their fertilizer, and he'll never tell you how his brother has him do the job. Granted, it's Reggie's idea, but he'll never let you know that. You're once of the nicest and finest ladies he's ever had the chance to love, to meet, to have. He thought he'll never have the chance to have someone to love him, but you? You just make his bloody and scared world feel safer.
When he came up on the veranda, he didn't see you near your flower bed like normal. It's actually a nice day; the radioman, Burny, says it's good enough to have a walk at night without sweating. Still, Reggie didn't like how you didn't great him when you entered your home, knocking on the screen floor before entering.
"Sweetheart?" He called as he enters. He takes off his hat and glances around. No one in the living room or kitchen. Were you in the bathroom? Still, he didn't like how your coffee pot was till full in the afternoon; you drink tea around this time. To come to think of it, it looks like the kitchen hasn't been touched since he's been here yesterday for afternoon tea. "Koala? Ya here?"
From the back of your home, he heard footsteps from your room, and he straightened himself a bit when you walked out. He offered a smile but it faded when he saw how red your eyes were and how lifeless your limps were. To him, you looked like a husk of a person, of a human.
"Oh," you hummed tiredly. "G'day, Reg." You look like you could collapse at any moment.
He met you in the hall in time to catch you, passing out from exhaustion. Reggie held you close as he gently lowered into his arms, resting your body against his chest. He rubbed your back as he rocked back and forth, fear taking over, as he looked down. "What's wrong?"
When your empty eyes met his, he understood.
Sadly, he smiled at you. "Breakdown, eh? Well, lovely," he kisses your forehead. "I reckon I cans help ya."
"Yeah?" You asked, leaning against his shoulder.
He nods as he lands a kiss over your forhead. "Yep. I c'n make ya somethin' small ta eat and hav'ya cuddled in m'arms for t'night."
"You don't have to," you said, your voice drawn and dead. "I just finished the," you smiled sadly and looked down at your hands, "the mental breakdown show."
"Nah," he said. A gentle hand lifted your chin and you leaned into his hand. "Lemme help ya. Ya need someone here now." He struggled for words for a moment, but said, "Everyone struggles now and then, lovely. It's good ta let tat stuff out. My aunt told me tat once... and I don't think ya should battle tis alone, love. I'm here now. Let me help, please?"
As much as your brain wanted him to go, you knew somewhere in your heart that you needed help, that you needed love, that you needed Reggie here to pick up the pieces of you around your home.
"Ya always know what to say," you said, laughing sadly. He leaned down and kissed ya gently. "Thank you, Reg."
He helps you stand and guides you back to your room. He led your hand and laid your down. He let go and got our room ready: putting up blankets over the windows to block out the light, your favorite drink made and on the bedside, and picked out some movie you liked. He kicked his boots off at the front door again before joining you in bad.
"See?" He hummed, pulling you to his side to have your head over his heart. "Reckon we c'n hav' pizza n' ice cream later? I c'n hold ya all day, my lovely."
You couldn't help but look up at him as the movie played. "Hold me tight and never let go?"
"Oh, darling," he smiled brightly at you. "Ya never need ta ask. I promise ya." Reggie takes your hand and kisses the palm. "Rest, little koala," he hummed, his voice so light and smooth. "I'll be here ta whole time. Ya never need ta worry."
You closed your eyes as you let the aftermath take over, and sleep came so easy with someone you love and adore. And, as promised, Reggie never lets you go even when the movie finished. He laid there with you in his arms, rubbing your back, loving you with every moment. "Don't fight yer monsters alone, y'n," he whispers as you dream. "Let me protect ya next time?" He snuggles next to you and plants a long kiss on your forehead. "I love ya, koala."
But you'll never hear him say it, never know how much he'll fight for you and love you. For now, rest, y/n. The monsters you face will never hurt you because Reggie would grind them to bits first.

You were seventeen and now had a boyfriend wasn’t that awesome? Hell Yeah! Especially when he was a total sweetheart. You and Reggie had been dating for six months and it was winter almost Christmas. You, Julie, the boys, And Flynn were all decorating.
“Hey Darling “ you’re boyfriend said as he hugged you from behind, you could tell he said his words in a question like sense “Yes my love” you gladly answered turning to face him
“When I put the cookies in the oven what temperature do I put the oven on?” He asked. Of course he would ask you’re amazing sweetheart was a little bit of a idiot but he was your idiot “350 “ you replied. He gave a nod softly
Alex blinked in complete confusion “Reginald Peters you don’t know what temperature to put cookies on “
Luke chuckled “oh cmon Alex would you expect more from him”. Julie thumped Alex and Luke on their foreheads “stop being mean”
Flynn looked at you “Y/N you sure know how to pick ‘‘em don’t you “ You crossed you arms at all of your friends and headed to the kitchen to help you dear boyfriend

Hurt/comfort
1995
“I’m so sorry, for your loss.”
I stare at the doctor wide eyed, my heart shattering. “N-no…..”
Beside me, Bobbie is quick to pull me into his side, to which I quickly wrap my arms around him as I choke out a sob.
The loud bustling noise and clean, white walls of the hospital fade out, and even the warmth of Bobbie’s body seems distant as I try *and fail* to comprehend the doctor’s words.
‘This isn’t happening…this isn’t..happening…’
.
.
Oh, but it was.
Despite the heartbroken thoughts in my head telling me it was all just a hoax, a week or so afterwards I find myself standing in front of 3 graves, each decorated with flowers and their own personalized tombstone.
Reggie Peters -

Beloved son, boyfriend and friend.
Could always light up a room, even in the darkest of times.
Should’ve been vegetarian.
…who was gonna light the rooms up now?

“And next on todays news- yet another teen death has occurred in town, but this time not by hotdogs. This teen was Y/n L/n- who happened to have been dating Reggie Peters, the former band member of ‘Sunset Curve’ who also unfortunately passed away 4 months ago. Y/n was 17 years old, to have been 18 in only 2 months. The cause of death appears to have been a car crash….

2020
It was a cloudy day, most likely about to rain. With about half the sky covered in a grey expanse of clouds, the other half showed splotches of the pink-orange sky, hinting to the sun set.
Most people would be at home, maybe at a restaurant with friends, awaiting for the night or at most some sort of rain.
Except for 5 teens, no no. Restaurants weren’t on their agenda tonight- Y’know what was?
A cemetery,
To be fair though, 4/5 of them were already dead.
Alex, Reggie, Luke, and Willie (not part of the band, but he was honorary) strolled through the maze of stone-slabs and grass, accompanied by their alive friend, Julie. Aka the only who could actually see them.
With Willie and Alex hand in hand, they trailed behind the group and laughed in amusement as Reggie and Luke goofed off- poofing from one side of Julie to the other, playing an odd game of ‘made ya look’.
“Will you two quit it?? I’m gonna trip over someone’s grave-“ Julie said, rolling her eyes at Reggie and Luke’s childish antics. “Eh, I’m sure mister….Jason Barnes won’t mind.” Reggie said, grinning at the dark-haired girl after reading off the slab of stone. “Wait wait- Jason barnes?? Dude wasn’t he the cashier at the Safeway by Bobbies house-“ Luke said, and Alex and Reggie’s eyes widened.
“No way-“
“I always wondered what happened to him.”
This quickly turned into game for the 4 ghosts, “who knows which dead guy.”
So far it was
Alex: 2
Luke: 4
Reggie: 7
Willie: 5
“Um… I’m not gonna ask..” Julie says hesitantly, watching her friends bounce around the cemetery.
‘God my life just keeps getting weirder by the second…’
“What about this-“
Reggie poofed in front of another grave, this one having colorful flowers painted onto the edge of the tombstone.
“….one…”
His face changed from one of amusement to one of shock, eyebrows furrowing as he stood there speechless- mouth hanging open ever so slightly. “..well what about it??” Willie asks confused, only to not get an answer.
Julie, Luke, Willie and Alex all shared a look, before making their way to the grave. “Reggie? What’s wrong-“
It wasn’t until they all got a clear view of the stone for Luke to realize what had happened. “…oh shit.”
Alex quickly caught on aswell, leaving Willie and Julie confused.
Y/n L/n
1978 - 1995
Wonderful friend to many, amazing partner and child. They will be remembered, and they have been and will forever be loved.
Should’ve stayed home.
Luke pats Reggie on the shoulder in comfort, but Reggie didn’t move. “Um, who’s y/n??” Willie asks, and without moving Reggie finally answers him. “The love of my fucking life, that’s who….”
His voice cracks mid-sentance, and the realization finally hits their long-haired companions. “Oh my god…. Reggie I’m so so sorry-“
Julie pulls Reggie into a side hug, to which he weakly returned. “..they only died a couple months after we did, too…” Luke says, and Alex curses under his breath. Willie takes the blonde’s hand, kissing his temple reassuringly.
They all stood there, silently mourning.
“Well the tables have really turned, huh?”
The voice startled the teens, each whipping their head around so fast whiplash couldn’t even describe it.
“No way…” Luke mumbled.
There stood none other then y/n themselves- s/c skin tinted orange in the light of the setting sun- e/c eyes shining brightly.
In a split second Reggie’s troubled expression was gone, instead being replaced by complete shock. “I- youre- huh?”
Y/n laughed slightly. “C’mon, didn’t ya miss me??” They stepped closer, spreading their arms out wide. Without another word Reggie rushed forward, practically leaping into the arms of his love.
Despite the joking tone and wide grin, y/n hugged him with such passion that the two stumbled a bit on the patchy ground. “Oh my god..I can’t believe you’re actually here…” Reggie mumbles, his voice being muffled as his head was currently nestled into the crook of y/n’s neck. “I thought I lost you forever…” they reply, hand cradling the back of the dark-haired boy. “Well, now you’re stuck with me forever..” Reggie responds, pulling away and leaning closer to their face. “And thank god for that…” Y/n whispers, kissing him sweetly.
Hey could u write a oneshot of fem!reader x Reggie from Mrs. Maisel?
Maybe a childhood friend that he’s known for a while, and they started dating not long before the tour, and the reader is worried (and maybe a little jealous) that he’s so close to Shy. The group comes back to New York for a little while, and Reggie takes a night to reunite with his girl.
Thanks!
Oh my gosh yes! Reggie is so underrated! (Imagine the sing where he sings him looking at you while singing that oh my gah-).
Requested? Yes.
Prompt? No. (Because I don’t have any but I’m putting out some soon!)
Summary: Reggie comes home from touring with Shy and need him and f!reader have a relaxing night at home. (Pretend there’s a keep reading bar. I’m on mobile and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me.)
I’m anxiously waiting for Reggie to come home. Well my apartment that we’ve made a home. Since he’s been on tour with Shy we’ve barely talked.
Of course we send letters but that’s not the same, and phone calls are always few and far between. Now, of course Shy would never try anything that way with Reg, us three have been best friends forever basically. But I can’t help but be a bit jealous of Shy spending all the time with Reggie while I get so little. It’s getting late, so hopefully the band and Miriam of course, got home okay.
My thoughts got interrupted by a knock on the door. Not just a knock but Reggie’s knock. After all the years of him and occasionally Shy accompanying him, coming to my door. I can spot his knock in a second.
Opening the door I launched myself into Reggie’s arms. After years of shoved down feelings finally getting to express them while he’s here physically for the first time in months feels amazing. “Hey baby.” He laughs, gently setting me down. “Hi, I-” Before I could say much I got cut off by none other than Shy Baldwin’s presence. “Shy… hey!” “Hey y/n! How are you? I missed you!” Shy pulls me into a hug. “I missed you too! What are you um, doing here?” I asked, keeping my cheery tone. “Oh Reggie invited me to tag along so I could see you!” He smiled. I do love Shy and I did miss him so much! He’s a childhood best friend. Though occasionally him and Reggie being together constantly foiled our plans. After a bit of conversation with Shy, he had to get home, and Reggie and I were left to ourselves. “Baby I’m so sorry I didn’t know he’d want to stay long.” Reggie says quietly taking me into his arms again. “No it’s okay I’m just happy you guys made it back okay!” He gives an assuring smile. Making our way to the couch Reggie told me all about how things on tour were. The good and the bad. He had brought back a special bottle of wine he waited to open until he was back home. We decided to open it tonight. “It’s almost midnight.” He interrupted himself, looking at the clock. “It is!” My eyes widen as I look also look at the clock. “We should get to bed soon.” “We don’t have to.” “Don’t you guys have another show tomorrow? You’ll be exhausted!” I tried to reason. As much as I would like to stay up all night with him that couldn’t happen. “It’s not like I’m the one performing baby. Come on, one more hour?” He pulled my head to his chest, the pillow I had missed so much. “One more hour.” I muttered “But I’m getting tired so 60 minutes is all you get!” “That’s fine with me.” He laughs, resting his chin on my head. The early morning sun was much to bright for my liking. I had fallen asleep so quickly I forgot to shut the curtains in the small apartments bedroom. Noticing that the clock read 10:00am I smiled, at the fact that I don’t have to work today. One of Reggie’s arms was wrapped around me tightly, not threatening to let go in the least. “Reg,” I whispered. My voice still sounding all frog like from the sleep. “Reggie!” I said a bit louder this time, turning to face him. A muffled “hm what?” Came out of his half awake, pillow shoved lips. “Reg, wake up.” I pleaded for the last time, before flicking his forehead sharply. “OW! What the hell was that for!” He whined, and opened his eyes. To a huge grin on my face. “Are you serious?” Reggie deadpanned. This quite frankly wasn’t exactly what he wanted to wake up like. “I’m so serious.” I giggled and shifted back into his arms. “I know you are.” He laughed. “I’m not ready to get up are you?” I shook my head. “Perfect.” He muttered, and closed his eyes again.
A:N~ I’m sorry this is so short! And that it took me forever- but I’m so glad I got a Marvelous Mrs Maisel request. We really need a bigger fandom willing to write for the characters! Thanks for bearing with me on my first oneshot in awhile. Love you all byeee <3

A/N: this was originally written with a female oc in mind, as it was supposed to be part of a fic that just never came to fruition. it's also me testing the waters to see if there are any jatp buds left here
“No. No you don’t.” Y/N immediately denied the boy’s confession, brows drawn together in concern as she lightly shook her head. “You can’t. Please.”
“That’s certainly not the reaction I was banking on.” Reggie dumbly pointed out, lips parted in what could only be described as a surprised confusion.
Y/N paid little attention to Reggie's reaction, however, too busy tumbling down her rabbit hole of thoughts. Her body moved on its own accord in a distressed pace that ran the length of the piano to the coffee table, and back again.
“I mean,” she started, a laugh that was void of any substance spilling past her lips before she could stop it. Her hands wrung together so tightly they could’ve become one. “How could something like this possibly work? You’re a ghost, and I'm not. We’re quite literally from two different worlds, Reggie.”
“I—I’m a little confused. Is the way I feel about you reciprocated or—” The bassist trailed off with a questioning lilt to his voice. He held up his index finger to signify his hopes for a pause in Y/N’s stressful spiral.
A breathy laugh suddenly escaped Y/N, finding her friend’s adorable obliviousness to be equally as cute as it was humorous. Tears pearled at her waterline when her pacing finally ceased. Reggie felt his heart pump harder in his chest when her eyes met his. The two gazed at each other with varying facets of fondness: Reggie, a perplexed yet hopeful fondness, and, for Y/N, a hopeless fondness that she knew would never go away. “Of course they are, Reg.”
“That’s such a relief!” Reggie couldn’t help but exclaim, drawing a soft chuckle from Y/N as well as a playful eye roll. He drew nearer to her, both subconsciously drawing in a breath at their close proximity. His voice lessened in volume as he drank in the girl who’d deliciously plagued his every thought since their first meeting. “So what’s the problem?”
“What isn’t the problem?” She retorted, her clear devastation over the issue withholding any heat from exploding in her delivery. Noticing Reggie's brows beginning to furrow once more, she elaborated. “There are so many uncontrollable factors that’ll stand in our way if we tried to be together.”
“Like what?”
“Well, no one other than the band can see you, for starters.” Y/N reminded, a tear cascading down her cheek as she spoke the impossible hurdle into existence. “What’ll we do about dates, or literally anything that requires us to be out in public together?”
“I’m sure we can come up with some fun date ideas that are garage-friendly!” Reggie said optimistically, catching her tear with his thumb. He brought his hands to rub her upper arms comfortingly. An almost whimsical smile was painted on his pink lips. “Think about it, Y/N. We can make this place our little sanctuary. Well, when the band isn’t already using it for practice, that is.”
“Reggie, I don’t think you understand.” The girl pointed out patiently with a soft shake of her head. “I can't keep my feelings for you contained in this garage. If i’m going to be with you, I’d want to scream about it from the rooftops. When I leave class and go to my locker, you’ll already be there waiting for me. and I can just pull you into the biggest hug and talk to you without anyone thinking that I'm looking at thin air. I want to take turns finding different restaurants that we can try together, one star or five. We can go on these wild adventures together that’ll be a pain in the ass to share with friends because we’ll either have too many stories to tell or be laughing too hard to get through them. When I smile, I want people to know that I'm not smiling at thin air, but at you, Reg—the sweetest, funniest, most talented, most beautiful person I've ever met. I want them to see you the same way I do.”
It was a wonder Y/N was able to finish verbalizing her train of thought, for an incessant stream of tears was flooding from her eyes by the end. Reggie was in a similar state, but an awestruck grin still nipped at his rosy cheeks. He tugged the girl before him into a warm embrace, where she took a moment to cry into his chest. The boy felt his tank top dampen within an instant, but couldn’t find anything in him to be upset over it.
“We can find a way to fix this. I’m sure there’s a way to make us visible to lifers.” Reggie reassured, swaying her body in tandem with his and stroking her hair. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head for good measure. “We can ask around and see if any other ghosts can help! Preferably ones that are smarter than us.”
“Reggie, you know how that went last time!” She cried, clutching onto his shirt to tug their bodies closer together. The mere thought of the boy before her getting himself into a caleb-level risk again terrified her. Tucking her face into his neck, she felt his shoulders slump, and knew that his mind traveled to the same destination as hers. “So, no. no magic. No evil, hundred-year old magicians. No nothing. I'm not letting you die again just to be with me.”
“You’re absolutely right. We just need to be more cautious of the company we keep.” He conceded with a soft nod that had his chin grazing her cheek.
When she removed herself from his chest, and her glassy, red eyes found his, all Reggie could see was discombobulating beauty. Another weak, half-hearted laugh escaped her as she forced a watery, incredulous grin. “Even if we were careful, you’re always going to be a teenager, Reggie.”
The boy in question was a little slower to uncover the necessity for her remark on his age. “What do you mean?”
Crossing her arms over her chest, Y/N averted her gaze to the floor. “You’ve stopped aging, sure, but I haven’t. I don’t want to, but i’m gonna be forced to move on without you, Reg. There is no graduating high school and moving in together during our college years for us. No growing old together. Our relationship has an expiration date, and I just know that I’m not going to be able to let you go when the clock hits zero.”
“So, don’t,” came Reggie's rapid response, hands reaching for Y/N’s. She sniffled as their eyes met again. “I mean, you saw what happened when you and Julie were finally able to touch me and the guys. Ever since you hugged me after seeing it work for Luke and Julie, I’ve felt stronger than I ever had when I was still alive. Hell, I’ve felt alive. That has to count for something, has to mean something. We’re so close, Y/N, I can feel it.”
Her lips parted and closed multiple times, before she was able to shakily convey what was on her mind. “I—I don’t want to lose you.”
“And you won’t.” He immediately reassured, hands clutching tighter to hers and bringing his forehead to hers. Their soft gaze that they shared was troubled yet determined. “If you think that I’m going to let you slip through my fingers so easily, you’re as crazy as Star Wars when they killed off Han.”
Y/N huffed out a small laugh, rolling her eyes affectionately at Reggie. A breathtaking grin attacked his face at the sound. She couldn’t help but smile back, even if it was laced with minuscule traces of concern.
Reggie's eyes softened, hands trailing from hers and up to her shoulders. He squeezed them gently, keeping his forehead on hers. “We’ll figure this out, you and me. I’ll do anything if it means getting to come home to you every night.”
Y/N pulled Reggie closer, and, as their lips met in a gentle, yet passionate, embrace, she knew that he was right. She would follow Reggie every step of the way, because that’s what you do when you’re in love.

a/n first and foremost i am so sorry it’s taken me so long. The first 2k words of this i had written up months ago, but i stared getting shifts again and my jatp fixation faded (and was quickly replaced by mcyt lmao). I have always been very bad at committing to things, but you’ve all waited over a year for this, and for that i appreciate you patience, and hope that you enjoy part 2. I probably won’t write for jatp again, mostly because of the cancellation news, but the show, the cast, and the fandom still hold a special place in my heart. also i hate the name now. but anyway, returning to my old fic formatting one last time :)

You gripped his hand tight and panicked. No, no, no, no, no. You felt a tug at your chest, but not the good kind, not like the one you felt when he told you he loved you or every time you heard him laugh. No. This one felt like someone had taken a handful of your hospital gown and was pulling you out of your body. You stared into Reggie’s eyes as you felt a wave of coolness run through your veins. Not breaking eye contact in fear of never seeing his beautiful eyes again, you wiggled your toes. His other hand came up and cupped your hand, and you did the same, the pair of you holding on to the other.
While your hands were held in place by Reggie, the rest of your body kept rising, toes towards the ceiling.
“Reggie?” Your voice was small and quivered with fear. You knew you had died, it was stupid to deny it, but you didn’t know what was next.
“It’ll be okay. I promise.” He had told you many times what had happened when he and the guys had died. They went to a black room where Alex cried, then they poofed into Julie’s garage 25 years later. “I’ll see you soon, okay?” You nodded as you started to cry, the look in his eyes so soft.
The tugging grew stronger as your body, your ghost, continued to be pulled upward, but your hands were still being held by Reggie.
“Promise?” You didn’t know if you had unfinished business, and neither did he, so it was going to be an empty promise. But you needed it, needed him.
“I promise.” Your grip started to slip, his hands sliding down your own. You didn’t want to lose him, you had barely found him. “I love you, okay? Don’t you forget that, no matter how long we’re apart.”
Reggie’s eyes started watering and you were barely holding onto each other’s fingers.
“I love you too, Reg. Please, wait for me.” Your grip had gone and the pull hadn’t slowed.
“I’ll wait for you until the end of everything.” Then his eyes were gone, you were above the room, quickly being pulled up. Above the hospital, above the city you grew up in. The black came suddenly, and you were dropped onto your stomach.
You could see your hands and your feet, but the rest of the room was black. You couldn’t tell where the floor stopped and the walls began. It was such a deep, rich black that your eyes hurt. So you squeezed them shut and let yourself cry. You quietly laughed as you cried, realising that you were doing exactly what Alex vehemently denied. But crying was all that you could do, so you sat, curled up into a ball and hugged your legs, sobbing into the void.
---
Experiencing nothing but the illusion of time passing left a lot of time to think. Your throat had become sore after a while, maybe an hour - but probably more - of sobbing, so the tears became silent streams. You thought about dying, how you got lucky, dying in your sleep. It was painless at the end of it all. That was the biggest relief, no longer aching every time you took a breath, no more stabbing pains as you laughed or spoke or experienced life. Life.
You thought about your parents. How were they dealing with the death of their child? While you had come to terms with your death numerous times in your short life, they had never let go of the hope that you would recover. Then there was Julie and Flynn. You hadn’t told them you were dying. Reggie would have told them you had died by now, probably told them that you had been dying for a little while. For them it was sudden, so they never had the opportunity to process it like you did.
How long had it been for them? Had they already been to your funeral? Or were they still planning it? You thought about what it was - or maybe would be - like. The tearful eulogies, soft laughter through tears as photos were shown and stories were told. The flowers that you placed around the room for the funeral itself, and the ones placed on your casket before it was lowered into its permanent home. Maybe it had been years. Maybe Julie and Flynn had graduated high school, and Julie and the Phantoms were huge. It could even be longer, maybe Flynn and Julie were married and had families of their own.
By the time you were contemplating the potential time you could return to, you were all cried out, lying on your back in the cold black room. At some point, you had noticed that your hospital gown was gone, replaced with the outfit you had worn the day before you died. You were grateful for this, not having to spend an eternity in a hospital gown. You had also noticed that you had started talking out loud. Which wasn’t a concern until you started talking to the air as though there was someone there to reply. The loneliness, the complete isolation, had finally gotten to you.
“And honestly, I just want to leave at this point. I want to go home, see my friends and family again. See Reggie again. But passing on and into whatever is instead of this, I would take that too.” Arms out, you spun in a slow circle as you spoke, looking up. You weren’t sure who you were talking to, if there even was anyone other than yourself to listen, but you hoped your begging for freedom from the void would be listened to. “Or at least give me a way to know how long I’ve been here. Please!”
At one point - you weren’t sure when or for how long - you stood, screaming until your throat was raw. The sound alternated between crying out the word please and just screaming. Finally, when you could almost taste blood from how raw your throat had become, you collapsed onto the ground.
You curled up again, knees to chest and arms around shins. You rested your chin on one of your knees and stared at a single spot in the distance.
As you stared, you imagined a door materialising. A dark oak door with a small stain-glass window at the top and a golden door handle. Then you imagined a doormat. A basic, tan doormat with a rubber edge and the word “home” painted on it in black. Your eyes started to burn as you fought the urge to blink. You knew it wasn’t real, and you knew that blinking may cause the illusion to disappear. The imaginary door handle turned and the door slowly pushed open, your eyes watering from the strain of holding them open. As the door opened, a barely-visible light seeped around the edges like a fluid. It didn’t behave like light, but instead appeared to be thick, oozing down the growing opening in the door onto the floor.
“I just want to go home.” It was almost pathetic how you were begging a door you imagined to let you go home, but you had run out of things to do, sanity slowly slipping away. Finally, you squeezed your eyes to get rid of the illusion. And the room grew dark again, the deep and drowning blackness that you had grown used to.
In the pitch black of the room, the faint flash of light was like a supernova, even behind your closed eyelids, and it caused your eyes to snap open. But you weren’t sure if you had imagined it or not.
“Y/N?” You let out a soft sob. Great, now you had auditory hallucinations to accompany the visual ones.
“No.” You pulled your knees tighter to your chest as you felt your heart break, the word leaving your lips in a defeated sigh. It was a cruel joke your mind was playing, making you think that Reggie was behind you, calling your name.
“What?” Soft footsteps echoed, and you squeezed your eyes closed again.
“No. I can’t. I can’t deal with hearing voices right now. Especially not Reggie’s.” Footsteps moved closer and stopped in front of you. You kept your eyes tight, trying to force away the hallucinations.
“What do you mean hearing voices?” You scoffed.
“I mean, I know I’m losing my mind, but I don’t want it to torture me by making me hear things as well as see things.” You flinched when you felt a hand cautiously rest on your shoulder, eyes flying open and locking on scuffed black shoes right in front of your own beat-up converse.
“I promise I’m real.” Your eyes flitted up and you saw him.
“Reggie.” You breathed out his name before all but launching yourself up and into his arms, face pressed into his neck as his arms wound around your waist. He fell onto his back as you started to cry.
“I promised I would see you again.” His words were mumbled into your neck before you suddenly pulled away, coming to a realisation.
“I can kiss you now.” The words were breathed out in excitement, and Reggie laughed as you felt a smile break out.
“Well? What are you waiting for?” You laughed as you pulled one hand from around his neck to place it on his cheek before leaning forward, pulling him in slightly with the other hand still on the back of his neck, and finally kissed him.
You both sighed when your lips connected, and he carefully sat up so he could comfortably pull you closer to him, leaving you to sit on his lap. With a final peck, you pulled back, just enough to rest your foreheads together.
“I love you.” You felt his breath against your lips as he whispered it to you. You gave him another quick peck and let out a giggle.
“I love you too. I’ve missed you so much and it feels like I’ve only been here for like a week.” Almost immediately, Reggie pulled back and broke eye contact. “Yeah, I figured I'd been here a while.”
“About that…” One hand moved from around your back so that he could rub the back of his neck.
“How long, Reggie?” You used one hand to lift his chin, forcing him to make eye contact. “Please, Reg.”
“Okay, so it hasn’t been as long as you’re probably thinking, but it has been… a bit.” You tilted your head to one side, silently telling him to just hurry up and tell you. “Y/N, it’s been three years.” Your hand dropped from his face and your eyes darted to stare off at a space over his shoulder. Almost immediately, the hand he had sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck moved to your cheek.
“I missed it.” Your voice was almost inaudible and sounded broken.
“Missed what?” You looked back at him and you saw there was a slight panic in amongst the confusion.
“My funeral.” It was a weird sentiment, being upset about missing one’s own funeral. But in your dark solitude, you had time to think at length about it. You had hoped you would be able to be there, holding Reggie’s hand as you cried, listening to the goodbye’s from those you loved and that loved you. They said goodbye and you never got to hear it. And it was likely the last time many of them would ever speak directly to you, or even about you at all. “I wanted to see it. Was it good?” In reply, Reggie simply hummed and gave a small nod, before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
“It was. Alex started crying too.” You let out a snort accidentally at the idea of Alex - also dead and far more likely to see you again - crying while your parents told stories of you as a child. “Gross. Ow!” You whacked him on the arm, and he rubbed the spot dramatically. “In all seriousness though, it was lovely and your parent’s made an effort to make it a celebration of your life I guess, rather than something about how you were… you know… dead.” The void grew quiet again, no breathing or heartbeat in your ears to break the silence, as you once again thought about your funeral. The silence was different though, from what you had grown used to in your time in the void, alone. This silence felt warm. When you were alone, the silence was cold, heavy and made you very aware of every feeling and thought. You were aware of the clothes against your skin, and a whisper sounded bellowing. And in that hyperaware silence, that week of nothing, your friends and family had lived since you had died. Now in the new silence, one where you were no longer alone, you had been told that it had been three years. Your friends had lived and grown three years. Flynn and Julie were in their sophomore year of college, studying for their futures and being brilliant, just as they always had. They were probably taller, maybe changed up their style just a little, but still very much them. You hoped they were still best friends, but you also knew that time changes people greatly and sometimes childhood friends drift.
“Do you know how I can leave here?” You hadn’t realised that you had started staring over his shoulder with tears pricling in your eyes until you looked back at Reggie and noticed the slight blur around the edges of his face. “I’m sick of it here.” You laughed through the wetness in your voice, pushing down the tears and the sadness that came from thinking too much about your friends.
“We can try poofing?” His phrasing makes you snort and he opened his mouth in feign insult. “What? That’s what it is!”
“It’s a stupid name is what it is.” You snort had devolved into a laugh, and Reggie smiled at the sound that echoed in the void. “And I don’t know how to do that, Reg.” He nodded, thumbs rubbing circles on your waist before using both hands to pat your sides. Reggie pushes you back slightly muttering the word “up.” You did as he says, standing up off of his lap and you offer your hands to help him up.
“Now what?” You tapped your foot in joked impatience.
“Now, you learn to po-” his words stop short as you reach forward to punch his arm “to teleport.”
---
Your hands and eyes hurt from the half hour of squeezing them tight, trying to teleport even just around the void.
“You can do this, I know you can.” You had tried thinking of your bedroom, thinking of your parents, thinking of your friends. Nothing was working. “Maybe you’re just being too specific? Just think of leaving?” Both you and Reggie knew that he was making it up on the spot, no idea how he teleported at all. On one of your dates, you had asked how he teleported, but he had said he didn’t know, describing it as it feeling the same as walking to somewhere you had been a hundred times before. Instinct, only needing to think of the destination, and suddenly he was there. But you were desperate to leave, so you were willing to try.
“Okay, thinking of leaving. Leaving…” The words were whispered, sounding more like breaths than words. You squeezed your fists tightly, nails biting at the skin on your palms, and you held your eyes tightly, tight enough to see swirls of white dots in your vision.
There was a heat in your hands, different from the pinch from your nails. It was like a burning cold, and you could have sworn you heard Reggie mutter something like “holy shit”. But you kept your eyes shut, kept your fists clenched, blocked out everything but the thought of leaving.
“I’ll meet you there.” You ignored his words again, but registered the smirk in his voice. The burn was new and you had a gut feeling that it was right, and you didn’t want to lose that.
Suddenly, a rush of cold, sudden and felt in your bones. Then you felt a drop and a pain in your tailbone. You heard a whoosh sound and… and… you heard cars and birds and the sound of feedback from an amp. No more silence. Your eyes flew open when you realised that you were out of the void, but had to squint from the brightness.
After the moment your eyes take to adjust to the light, you look around. Julie’s home studio. You were at the place you felt most at home, where you hung out with your friends and went on dates with your boyfriend, where you escaped the looks of concern from your parents who loved you but treated you like glass all because you were dying.
And there, sat behind the piano was Julie. Her hair was shorter, her face had slimmed out a little. She looked older, and she looked just as beautiful as she always had. There was a short flash, and you saw Reggie’s shoes again in your peripheral, but you didn’t stop staring at Julie. And she was looking at you. She could see you.
“Oh my god.” She tripped over her own feet as she raced over to you, dropping to her knees in front of you. Her hands were reached out, unsure of whether she should or even could touch you. “It’s… you’re here.”
“You’ve grown up, Julie.” She laughed, and you became aware that her eyes were watering and she was trying to fight tears. “You look good.” Julie laughed and a tear fell, and you held out a hand, to test whether she could touch you. Her hand hovered for a moment before lowering it, and her fingertips slipped through your hand. You saw heartbreak flash through her eyes and you let out a laugh that sounded almost like a sob. “It’s okay.” You looked around the room finally, and you saw Luke and Alex watching you and Julie. Reggie helped you to your feet before you turned to them with a smile. Just as you opened your mouth to greet them, you were almost tackled by the boys in a hug, only held up by Reggie’s hand on your back pushing you forward to counterbalance.
“How was the void?” Luke asked after he pulled away. “Still cold and quiet?” You nodded and sniffed, wiping the tears from your eyes. After Alex pulled away, you watched as Reggie punched him in the arm.
“There’s a puddle of your tears from when we were there ‘Lex.” Alex punched him back, using his other hand to wipe his own tears away.
“Ha ha.” Reggie swung his arm around your shoulders, pressing a kiss to your temple. The boys fall into banter while you and Julie watched on silently. You greedily took in the sounds and the light, happy to be free from the darkness and silence that had consumed you for so long.
“It’s good to see you.” Julie’s voice was quiet, and if you weren’t already looking at her, you probably would have missed it completely. You leaned into Reggie and smiled at her.
“I missed you too.” You followed her lead, talking quietly as to not disturb the bickering.
You jumped as the double doors slammed open, and you turned quickly to see Flynn. Like Julie her face had slimmed, but she had grown her hair out, tied back in a ponytail that was full of volume from her curls.
“Alright, Julie and I can only assume the phantoms are here too, we got news about the gig!” She dropped her arms then paused, looking at Julie for a moment, before tilting her head. “Girl, why are you crying?” Julie laughed and shook her head.
“It’s [Y/N], she’s ho- she’s back.” You shook your head when you noticed the correction, ignoring the way Flynn’s eyes when wide and she started stuttering.
“Home, Julie, I’m home.”
“She’s home.” Finally over her moment of shock, Flynn let out an excited squeal.
“Point at her right now or so help me, Julie!” You laughed as Julie quickly pointed at you and Flynn raced to stand next to her, staring through you.
“Tell her I’m sorry I missed her graduation outfit and gig.” Flynn let out a tearful laugh after Julie repeated your words.
“As if I don’t have photos and videos on hand, damn.” She reached into her back pocket while murmuring “like you don’t even know me.” Julie put her hand on Flynn’s shoulder, stopping her. “What?”
“How about we catch her up on everything slowly. Then you can show off your ‘fit?” You nodded, despite Flynn not being able to see you.
“You’re right, okay, fine.” Quickly, she turned, marching over to the ratty sofa before plopping down, patting the space beside her for Julie. You laughed and quickly followed, opting to sit on the coffee table in front of them. Reggie sat beside you, while Luke found his seat on the arm next to Julie, and Alex on the sofa next to Flynn.
Back and forth, Flynn and Julie took turns telling stories and updating you, laughing as they bickered over details. Reggie pulled your hand into his lap, running his fingers over your skin, his laugh mixing with Luke’s and Alex’s. You sat, listening, smiling and laughing. You were home. Though it was different now, and you would never age, it was still home.
