A moment I really love when it comes to Teruhashi is that one scene after Saiko has made his first appearance and caused a ruckus and he tells everyone that Teruhashi is completely gonna fold over for him because he can just buy her off with money.

Because you get the funniest contrast of Kuboyasu and Kaido getting absolutely pissed off on her behalf because "she's not that kind of girl!" and then back to back Teruhashi is losing it about everything she could have with such money.

But it's really sweet too because those are her friends, who believe in her so much that they are willing to defend her with tooth and nail and it kinda seems like Teruhashi is not living up to that faith they have on her, but then...

Saiko insults them. And Teruhashi's wonder becomes a "no" immediately.

IT'S SUCH A NICE MOMENT.

Like she recognizes herself that this is everything she could have wanted before. But Saiko insulted her friends and the boy she likes. And she responds to their faith in kind by putting them above something that once would have been her dream.

Edit BECAUSE ACTUALLY I THINK THIS MIGHT BE THE ONLY DIRECT REFUSAL SHE GIVES TO A GUY??? AND TO THE GUY WHO INSULTED HER FRIENDS TO HER FACE. LIKE. HOW CAN PEOPLE SAY SHE ONLY CARES ABOUT HERSELF.

im so overdramatic about this but every time i see someone say like "they were lonely til they met each other/they were each other's first true friends/etc" about kuboyasu and kaido i get so. mad 😭😭😭 this is saiki and kaido friendship erasure

What kills me about Saiki knowing his friends would accept him if they knew about his powers is that... yes, he knows this. He believes in them enough at the point of the volcano that he knows they would care for him and want him around regardless.

But he says "I wouldn't want to put them in this position because it would be hard for them". His friends would be willing to get used to knowing their minds are being read 24/7 and they would be willing to know Saiki can manipulate their thoughts if he wants, and they would be willing to get used to all his little oddities because they love him.

But Saiki doesn't want them to have to. He wanted to be "normal" for them.
