Hey y'all. It's been forever since I've posted and I don't even know who will see this, but I've really missed it and everyone on here. I've been dealing with a severe depressive episode that feels like it won't end. I've not had one this severe for more than a decade and it's knocked me flat and it kind of seems like that's how it's going to be for the foreseeable future, unfortunately. I told someone that my brain dealing with this depression is like when you turn the lights off in a big building and they don't all go off at once, they do it chunks at a time, and my brain is shutting things down in chunks trying to preserve what it thinks is the most important functions, but it doesn't always choose right. And communication is one of those that got shut down. So I really want to apologize to the people I just disappeared on. It wasn't intentional. It’s felt especially cruel knowing that this is the exact time I need to be able to communicate with people and my support system the most, and yet it’s felt utterly impossible. And to the ones who've reached out to check on me during this time, thank you. It might take a bit to reply to the different messages but I appreciate them so much.

I'm currently in the process of switching to another job, which is incredibly stressful but I think overall will be a huge help once I find something I can settle into. I'm really trying to claw my way out of this hole and I think I'm slowly (very, very slowly) making some sort of progress. But overall, I’m just so exhausted from it. I know from past experiences that no matter how long it lasts it WILL eventually pass, and I will be so grateful when it does, but dang it's taking its sweet time.

Thank you so much for this, dear heart. You have no clue what it means to me. I have been so incredibly blessed to have met some absolutely amazing people on here and I have missed this little bubble of support, and love, and kindness.

And I am so happy that you were able to take some sort of solace from my stories. Writing has always been my escape, my coping mechanism, and I went 5 years without writing anything and then it was like a floodgate opened. It was so comforting to me to be able to write again, but to be able to share those stories with other people, to build a little community for myself, that was amazing. And then when burnout hit, it felt horrible. I lost my coping mechanism and it definitely sent me spiraling. I honestly think that if I'd been able to keep writing, my depression would have had to fight a little bit harder to take over. But it was like a wall. Not that I was only writing stuff that I didn't like, it was just empty. No words. And then I had the most difficult and draining year at work. I was a preschool teacher and it sounds insane to say that 3 and 4 year olds sent me headlong into the worst depressive episode I've had in literal years, but it's true. I was not receiving the support I needed from my boss, I was getting complaints from parents about absurd, entitled problems, and it wore me down. The following year I had an amazing class with an amazing set of parents, but the worries, the fears, the complaints from the previous year (the only complaints I got in all the years I worked there) caused me so much anxiety and made me question every single decision I made and left an impression that I couldn't shake. And I shared that to say this: Words and how we use them can make such an impact. They can play on a loop in someone's head as an a complaint, but they can also bring an incredible amount of comfort. And I want to thank you for taking the time to write this for me and to put it into something that I can return to and read again when my heart is feeling particularly heavy. I'm so happy that anything I've written could have given you any sort of peace or comfort, but I appreciate so much you reaching out and doing the same for me.

Summary: Sy is set up on a blind date with a single mom. When the babysitter cancels, so does his date. But Sy is determined to salvage what he can.

Pairing: Sy and OFC Zara

Warnings: Fluff. Lots and lots of fluff. And possibly a dodgy written toddler? lol I hope not! I’m surrounded by 3 and 4 year olds every day at work but this is my first time writing one and I’m not sure how well it comes across. I swear the kid in this story wasn’t even meant to talk this much but here we are! 😂

Word Count: 5,200+

It was too good to be true. I should have known that from the start. Being set up by friends rarely worked out but from the moment I saw the picture of my date-to-be, I knew something had to go wrong. He was too hot. Men like him didn’t date single moms. So when my daughter’s babysitter called at the last minute to cancel, it didn’t really take me by surprise: of course something would happen to derail the date.

I reached behind me and put my hand on the back of his head, running my fingers against the soft fuzz of his hair.

“Happy anniversary, honey bee,” he rasped in my ear.

I smiled. “Happy anniversary,” I whispered back.

“I can’t believe you’ve been mine for three whole years.” He pulled me to him tighter. “I knew you was something special when I first met you but I had no idea I’d be marrying my best friend.”

“Best day of my life.”

Thank you so much! I'm so glad that you enjoyed their story! I had intentions of finishing it and hit a pretty rough bout of writer's burnout and haven't been able to work on it in a couple of years. I'm hoping in the future I can give them the ending I've had planned but until then, it makes my heart so full and happy that people are still enjoying their story.

Having Hazel Mae in our lives changed everything but all for the better. Even though I knew Sy wasn’t like other husbands that were going to leave me doing everything for the baby while he worked on the farm, it still surprised me how much he wanted to do. I’d always heard you weren’t supposed to hold babies all the time ‘cause you’d spoil them but Sy seemed hellbent on doing just that because he could hardly put her down. Even when he wasn’t holding her, he couldn’t keep to himself. He was always stroking her cheek, or letting her grip hold of one of his fingers in her tiny fist, or kissing her head. Something in me worried he might grow tired of it, but he only fell more in love.

The weeks ticked on and with fall creeping closer, the heat finally let up. But even with the cooler weather, Sy wouldn’t let me do a single thing around the farm. He hadn’t since the night of the barn raising party. I couldn’t even so much as hang up the wash anymore ‘cause he was afeared I might faint again and hurt the baby. I was a mite scared of the same thing myself so for the first time since we got married, I didn’t try to talk him into letting me do any of the chores. I let him handle all of it.

Hi! I'm so sorry that this has taken me so long to answer! I've been in the middle of a depressive episode that had me in a chokehold but I'm slowly working my way back.

I'm so glad that you loved The Beauty of Thorns! I have every intention of finishing it one day but unfortunately I hit writer burnout pretty hard not long after starting it and I haven't been able to write anything in well over a year. So I'm really hoping that at some point I can come back to it because I was really enjoying the universe that I created for it.
