The Olympics Closing Ceremony has been wonderful but the preview to the next Games is the highlight. 2020 can’t come soon enough, especially as I’m aiming to be over in Japan by then, teaching English.

Short Hiatus

I know I have fallen down on the cheering and the count down but ironically my lack of funds had my internet turned off for a while and now I'm not sure I can pay my rent this month soooooo I need to take a small break from this. Keep up your schedule if you can and if not, I shall be back in a month or so with an alternative or updated plan.

My internet was shut off so my fancy post will have to wait till prob fri. Still yesterday marked week four ending! Put some money aside! Times are tough but Tokyo will be so very nice!

Week 3 of saving for Tokyo 2020 trip!

My total=  $61

Yours if going in order= $6

Yours if going by set weekly= $75

Don't be discouraged if you have saved up a different amount or you are just starting now. There is plenty of time to catch up and we'll all have around the same total at the end. Also there is the fact that the $8,000 has a lot of padding and rounding up incase you fall short in the weekly goals.

The important thing is to keep plugging away at it.

Next week will be Month 1 complete and I'll post a bit about what the stadium plans are going to be like and things like that.

WEEK 2- Reminder! Toss in some cash for TOKYO 2020 trip!

Here we are in week 2!  

Hope things have gone well for you. I took a trip to NYC for the weekend for a Welcome to Nightvale show that was awesome and got to meet up with people who were around for Comic Con. I ate lots of yummy food (Macaron Cafe! Alice's Tea Cup!) and spent lots of money at Midtown Comics and Toy Tokyo on goodies. Too much money. 

So, I am going to put in less this week. Say $5. Good. Should still make rent with that. 

If you are going in order on the chart it's $2 for you in your savings! If you're doing the weekly $25, put that aside.

We are doing well! WooHoo! My Total: $55 Don't worry if you only have a few bucks in there. Remember, I'm saving those cheaper days for Christmas poor times.

Maybe print out last weeks chart and check off each week as you save that amount?

Okay let's start saving that money Today! (only $1 required!)

First I recommend opening or designating a separate bank account for just this little venture of ours. God knows when your car has trouble or it's time to buy holiday gifts this money will look more and more appealing as time goes on so if you can separate the account somehow you will be better off.

I opened a new savings account at a local community credit union online. Why not my normal bank? Because they gave me $25 right off the bat to start one.they gave me $25 right off the bat to start one.

So maybe do a little research to see if there are any incentives like that in your area.

NEXT! How do you plan to save your money? As I said yesterday the goal will be around $8,000. Hopefully more.

I can think of 2 really good ways to go. 

A. Save a higher fixed amount a week

B. Save a flux amount a week

Type A- Fixed week savings

Starting from right now (the first week of October) there are aprox 348 weeks until June 2020. (The Olympics are in July but I figure giving a bit of a cushion can't hurt).

That means:

$20 a week= $6,960  + one tax return ($1,040) = $8,000

$23 a week= $8,004

$25 a week= $8,700

And so on. If you choose this method put that amount you decide on away for the first week of October!

Type B- Flux weekly Savings

I found this on pintrest. If you follow it from October 2013-October 2019 this method should net you $8,268. If you then continue to save $50 a month for the last 9 months you'd have $8,718.

This is going to be my choice. I know it's meant to make you feel like there is no pinch from week to week but I'm going to break it up a bit so when the holidays come up I only have to put a few dollars away and not like $50.

SO! Week 1- I put in $25 but since I got $25 from my new bank from just opening an account I'm going to say I'm good for week 50 and not have to worry about that week later.

No worries if you didn't expect to save money for Japan today. Just set aside a dollar in change or whatever you can scrounge and you're at least good for week one.

The Prospective Budget for Tokyo 2020

After announcing my intention to visit Japan for the 2020 Olympics I asked a friend living over there for an idea of the expenses. With these figures in mind I'm going to be rounding up a lot. Got to consider price increases over 6+ years and Olympic price gouging. If I save more than I need that just means I can extend my stay longer or buy more goodies while there. Estimated airfare now: $2,000 Save for 2020: $3,000 Estimated housing per person now: $200 a night ($1,400 a wk) Save for 2020: $3,000 for at least 8 days but 2 wks would be good. Investigate homeaway.com for deals. Estimated prices for Olympic tickets/food/souvenirs-??! Save for 2020: at least $1,000. I'm sure the types of ticket packages may vary but I bet opening ceremonies is gonna be at least a few hundred dollars. Estimated prices for touristy japan culture,tours,shopping. Save for 2020: $1,000 I'll get what I can for this. Total save goal: $8,000 or more + passport expenses Does anyone have any advice or price guesstimates to help aid the budget?
