“Hey everybody! It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Hehe, I guess you can say I’ve been busy... little brothers are a huge handful! But it’s about time Knives met some new people.” Except Legato. Please no don’t corrupt his pureness. 

“Knives, c’mon, say hi to everyone!” 

“Wha?” He was excited, but... pretty nervous too. “Um... H-hi! Vash, do I really get to meet new people?” 

Despite his best efforts, Knives was too shy to have a real circle of friends. But that too could change.

The Burglar and the Bodyguard in Red

There it was, the big mansion where one of the planet’s richest millionaires lived. Thanks to their development on high-quality prostheses of all kinds, they could live an easy life in luxury but Cheri knew their greediness. Their deeds may seem good to most, but they in reality doesn’t care much for others except how deep their pockets are, and abuse their customer’s trust by making it all seem too good to be true.

She was there to punish the man by making his riches more empty, and she had to find a way inside without attracting too much attention to herself. She learned of the guards that the man had hired to protect his possessions and they were many, but even then there’s an opening to slither through unnoticed.

Rumors about the 60 billion double dollar man, Vash the Stampede, had been circling around the town for days, saying that he would arrive there. Despite his reputation, Cheri knew how to be careful if she would ever encounter this outlaw. But it didn’t mean she could promise to make it out alive, and that is what scares her about the man known to be the act of God.

Vash had been hired as a bodyguard, yet again. It was rather annoying that rich, suspicious people kept using him as some sort of shield to get away with crimes, but on the other hand, it was useful in a way. After all, when they were this close... it was easy to deal with them. 

Vash had expected another easy night, and let his eyes slowly flutter shut-- until a noise, like a cat leaping through the house, caught his attention. He followed, as quietly as he could. It wasn't hard to find who was there, but what shocked him was that it was a young girl. 

"....Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked, incredulous.

"A-Ah, Vash! There you are!" Rem quickly run up to him, hugging him so fiercely, so protectively. "Hey, how about you and Knives come stay at my place for a few days? I'll make cake!" Overprotective mommy mode.

"Huh? Rem? What's wrong?" He wasn't going to question her judgement for even a second. If something was wrong, then he was probably in danger. And that meant that Knives was in danger, which was something he couldn't allow under any circumstances. "Alright, sure..."

Damaged Aegis (Open)

It was a nice, cool night. Perfect kind of night for a brisk walk. Acri had the night off, and the weather had been inviting him for such an excursion all day. He’d had errands to run earlier, but now was time for winding down the day. A walk in the desert would be nice. It was usually hot during the day but without the constant threat of the sun, it was actually a peaceful place to be. No drunks, no barfights…. absolutely perfect.

He nearly ran into a figure on the ground… well, two figures. A man and a child curled inside his coat. Well, fuck. Acri might have been a demon, but his appetite for destruction and demise had long dwindled over the years. He couldn’t just leave these guys out in the desert to die. From what it looked like, the man was in bad shape - a puddle of blood had started to form. It was growing, which was a somewhat good sign - it meant the man was still alive. 

Heaving a sigh, he heaved the man over his shoulder, fireman carry as he clutched the child to himself. He had medical supplies at his apartment, which thankfully wasn’t far. Needless to say, Acri might not have the peaceful night he longed for.

Vash couldn't feel the man picking him up, but Knives was wide awake and unharmed, albeit a little hungry and thirsty. He didn't recognize the man, and that alone was enough to scare him. He saw the spiky man in his arms, though... but spiky man was sleepy. Was he really safe here?

Knives wasn't sure, and began to sniffle, threatening to cry out. 

Vash was starting to feel less unconscious, and more... asleep. But even so, he couldn't even find the energy within him to open his eyes, let alone indicate his consciousness.

"....I feel like I'm just waiting for something that's never going to show up. It's making me really restless...."

Man, he hadn't felt like this in a long while. Being promoted to parenthood took a lot of the energy out of him, and a lot of his usual stress... his usual tension and paranoia was starting to feel off.

“Vash!” Oh god, she hasn’t had the time to explain to this Vash that she was dating the Son of God. “I-I… How-?”

Cue embarrassed and shame mother.

“Ahhh! Hello there, Knives!” Rem beamed at the child, her face brightened at the sight of the child. “How has he been Vash? Has he been good?” She puffed her cheeks and poked her tongue out at the child. “I might need to babysit him for you just to make myself feel better!”

"He's doing great! He's starting to learn to talk~!" Vash said enthusiastically. 

Knives looked up at her and giggled. It was the pretty lady again! 

"You can if you want. I kind of like taking care of him though."

and the connection once again was lost

"Crap!" He yelled, still shaking. This... wasn't good at all. 

He looked at Knives, sitting up in his arms, looking at him with teary eyes. He would have to protect the young man. That, more than anything, was what concerned him. 

"....We have to run." 

He started making a mental list of what he'd need to pack to keep Knives healthy, the minimum of what he'd need to protect himself, and just where he could even go. His prospects weren't looking good.

"My new puppy," she laughed sweetly, a small blush on her cheeks. "Jesus gave him to me… Apparently saved him from suffering."

"Jesus?" He said, a little shocked. "Well, that was nice of him."

Still strange, but he was slowly getting used to these things. 

"He's a cute little thing, isn't he?" Vash chuckled, smiling cheerfully at the dog.

"M-mom are you hitting on jesus!?" Cue awkward, uncomfortable flailing.

“Vash!” Oh god, she hasn’t had the time to explain to this Vash that she was dating the Son of God. “I-I… How-?”

Cue embarrassed and shame mother.

“Thank you, Vash… That really means a lot to me.” She let her expression soften at last. “He’s a sweet man, you should get to know him.” Without another beat to miss, she added. “I’m still your mom. You and Knives come first to me. Okay? Speaking of which,” she blinked. “Where is little Knives?”

Sometimes... it just felt wonderful, how easily forgiven he was by Rem. This sort of mistake might have gotten him kicked in the stomach with Knives, insulted, berated, or one of his friends injured, maybe even put under the threat of death. He missed this kindness so much....

He was close to crying again, but this time, he stopped himself. 

"Thank you, Rem! It means a lot just hearing that~." He said, cheerfully. He chuckled, pulling Knives up from his back and onto his shoulders. The boy waved cheerfully.
