Ted and Rebecca are in their own Sliding Doors narrative, the course of their intertwined lives depending on whether or not Ted chooses to stay or go. Last season he chose to leave. He cut off contact. He's returned to Richmond and now they're back in the Sliding Doors elevator stepping into their fresh start.

Ted starting the episode waking up in Richmond wearing a Kansas graphic tee, it's shot in a slightly disorienting way, he muses to himself on his morning walk to Nelson Road that "I guess nothin' stays the same" only to be confronted with Wanker Man and then "I guess some things do stay the same", and towards the end of the episode whe he's settled back in with the Lady Greyhounds, we hear the song 'Clean Heart' by Perfume Genius:

He's merging his Kansas past with his present in Richmond, and he's moving forward with a clean heart. But it's not an easy transition in spite of the fact that he's done it before. After all that time spent in Kansas, isolating himself from the people he knew and cared about, it's a little jarring for him. And for the Richmond gang too.

The question is, if Dr. Sharon is coming back as rumors suggest, is she coming back for Ted?

I just think it would be really funny if there's a callback to 'Rainbow' and Rebecca breaks up with The Flying Dutchman, has a little too much wine and goes back on dating apps where, after Keeley helped him set up a profile, she finds Ted...and debates whether to swipe left or right before throwing her phone onto the couch. Bonus points if one of them makes a joke about finding the other on the app the next day.

It took Harry and Sally 12 years and 3 months to fall in love. They were friends for a long time, then they weren't, then they fell in love. We're in year 6 of Ted and Rebecca's friendship. They were friends for a long time, then they weren't. There's an entirely new three season arc. If something romantic is going to happen, it's going to be a slow burn, and that's much better than instant gratification, especially when the two people involved are middle-aged divorcees who are healing from trauma.
