@roarrenji-blog
Sitting alone on the steps of his barracks, Renji knows all his work for the day has been completed. Nothing to do at this time - so, the man figures he’s long overdue for relaxation. Reaching for the six-stringed instrument, fingers begin to coast over the neck as a scratchy tune sounds. It’s been a while since he’s last played, but it’s like riding a bike. Once you know, you never really forget, so he takes a second, breathes and slowly this act begins to sound more like an actual song.
reign-over-the-frosted-heavens:
It was amusing, watching how the lieutenant rushed at things with a single minded determination born from his desire to win but out of sheer stubbornness as well. It was, however, also a sentiment that Toshiro very much could understand and sympathize with. After all, he too desired to train and grow stronger to that he could protect the people that he cared about. He did not want to fail anyone like he did Hinamori ever again.
He watched as Renji started up the training program again, icy eyes analyzing his every move and humming to himself. Like before, Renji had been doing quite well, but also like before the redhead soon fell again. An audible sigh issuing past the captain’s lips.
“You are rushing too much. I imagine you want to finish the course because it is a program that usually only captain class shinigami can clear right? This is giving you severe tunnel vision and narrowing down the field of what is noticeable to you.” He tucked his hands into his sleeves. “If you wish to complete this course you need to be aware of your surroundings and react appropriately.”
After this last encounter of his face meeting with gravel, Renji sat himself up to a crossed leg position. Trying desperately to analyze what he had done wrong this time, but it was Captain Hitsugaya who came through with a reply. [ ᴀɴ ʜᴏɴᴇsᴛ ᴏɴᴇ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ] As if the younger man could read the Lieutenant like a book. Embarrassed though he was, legs came to stand tall once again. Hearing the words and carefully taking them to heart.
Yes, Renji was practicing. Trying his damned hardest to grow stronger. Only a few lower class than a Captain were able to pass a course such as this one, but the change was that this specific one had been newly created. Of course, each ranking Commander had already had their fill of it. [ ᴘᴇʀʜᴀᴘs sᴏᴍᴇ sᴛɪʟʟ ᴘʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴄᴇᴅ ] But now that it opened to those like Renji – he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to prove he’s got what it takes to…
——— ‘ I had been. Just that one damn move keeps… ’
There was no explaining himself out of these mistakes. Toshiro had been there. Witness to each step. There was no question that the Captain spoke honest words.
‘ Damnit. I’ve fought this way for too long now. How the hell am I supposed to change my ways? ’
Leaning against the wall, Renji cupped a hand over the freshly made wound. Rain falling from the skies above made the puddle at his feet stained crimson just like his hair.
——— ‘ Shit. ’
Betrayal & Regret Sentence Starters
“I told you not to get too close to me.” “From the day we met, I knew I’d hurt you eventually.” “I wish you never had trusted me.” “I told you to leave, but you didn’t. I gave you the chance!” “We were never friends. I’m so sorry.” “I did something terrible.” “It was inevitable, but I regretted it every step of the way.” “I’m mainly sorry that somewhere along the way, I started to care about you.” “I guess this is a lesson in not trusting people, right?” “How long?…Since the beginning.” “I wish I could just make a wish and become a better person.” “None if it was real, but I wish it was.” “Do you think I liked hurting you?” “I hurt people. It’s all I’m good at.” “I did it because I had to, not because I ever wanted to.” “I -did- care about you, I just had no other choice.” “You should have walked away when you had the chance.” “If we had never met, it would have saved us both some grief.” “I know it hurts, but I’m still glad we had the chance to know each other.” “Hurting you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.” “I didn’t want it to be like this, but I had no control!” “I guess I’ve just never been a trustworthy person.” “I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t want to forgive me either.” “So? Aren’t you going to say something?” “If I tell you what I did, we’ll probably never see one another again.”
“When were you going to tell me about this?” “Why me? Of all people, why me?” “You planned this all from the beginning?” “I wanted so badly to think you were different.” “How could you lead me along like that?” “None of what we had was ever real, was it?” “So, our friendship didn’t mean anything to you?” “I would have done anything for you, but you’ve ruined all of that.” “All of the things I sacrificed for you didn’t mean a thing?” “I wish I had known when we met that you were such a vile person.” “If I could go back, I would just walk away.” “I forgive you, but I’m not going to forget what you did.” “No. I don’t accept your apology.” “After all your lies, how do I know you mean it when you say you’re sorry?” “I hope you realized what you did was cruel.” “I still care about you.” “Just tell me that your feelings towards me were genuine.” “What on earth is worth betraying someone who loves you?” “If you want to regain my trust, you have to earn it.” “Don’t just say you’re sorry. Show me that you’re sorry.”
“You should be more careful.”

Wa-was the Captain showing concern…
Without a though, Renji ran his hand across his chest. The medication and healing practices were working well, though he could still feel the fresh wounds underneath the bandages.
——— ‘ Better me than you, Sir. ’
Byakuya turned more fully to face Renji as he dropped down to one knee. He frowned down at the spiky red topknot. The gesture was more formal than most he’d come to expect from his lieutenant, and furthermore, it wasn’t immediately obvious to the noble why Renji had genuflected himself before him.
His eyes widened briefly in surprise, and he turned away quickly to hide the expression.
“Stand up, Lieutenant,” he snapped over his shoulder. “If I wanted you to be on desk duty, I’d have already assigned you.”
So much for showing the man some damn respect.
He stared at the other while moving to stand on his own feet. Renji didn’t regret what had been done, though. If there was something he could do in order to protect his comrades, he’d do it. This wasn’t just for Captain Kuchiki. Stepping in the line of fire was an action that would be done for any of his comrades – his friends. They just so happened to be in the same place at the same time – plus, was it not a job of the Lieutenant to show some attempt of keeping his Captain safe.
He shrugged.
——— ‘ Understood, Sir. ’
“I’m so exhausted I don’t feel tired anymore.”

He’d bet any money that Ichigo was now regretting the decision of volunteering for this assignment. They had been up for close to three days – of course, they’d switch off taking naps, but they’d never last more than an hour or so. Being a lookout for some lowlife scum wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
——— ‘ You say one more thing about sleep and I’m shoving my foot in your face. ’
"How are you NOT hungover?"
[ α мємє ] || @cherryblossombankai
Renji didn’treally expect that kind of question to come from his Captain. Sure they hadshared in a night of drinking and some … bonding? Becoming friends but not really?Yeah, he didn’t have a damn clue, but even so. Didn’t believe Captain Kuchiki would express concern oversomething like this. Hell, Renji was HAMMERED last night but still managed tocome back to the barracks early this morning – ready as ever.
——— ‘ Uh, just drank a lot of water beforeheading to bed last night. Hope you don’t mind my asking, Captain, but you’renot experiencing one right now, are you? ’

A soft-toned voice sounded from behind the man who had apparently been restingup against a wall. Nowhere special. Renji had been heading to a Lieutenant’smeeting when he had stopped for just a single moment. [ ʜᴏᴡ ʟᴏɴɢ ʜᴀᴅ ɪᴛ ʙᴇᴇɴꜱɪɴᴄᴇ ] Bags were under the man’s eyes from lack of rest.
Turning, he saw Captain Ukitake standing there– appearing worried.

“Did you need something, Lieutenant?”
cherryblossombankai:
Byakuya hadn’t glanced up at first, expecting a routine question that he could answer with minimal attention. But as the offer registered, his brush paused above the paper and he lifted his head to spear Renji with an expressionless look that hid the thoughts within.
He just looked at his lieutenant for several moments, torn between vehemently refusing on the grounds that the Kuchiki didn’t go to taverns, refusing on the grounds that he didn’t drink nor did people respond favorably when he did casually appear in public, and accepting because he was hungry and there was something curiously sincere in Renji’s offer.
Finally, he lowered his eyes back to his paper and continued filling in the line he’d started. “The offer is appreciated, but I will have to decline. There is paperwork to be done, and you two will both no doubt have more a more enjoyable time without the hampering presence of a Kuchiki noble hanging over your shoulders.”
These two men, though both in similar positions, were raised in two VERY DIFFERENT zones. Their upbringings not anywhere near the same level. In the present time, there were surely moments of frustration and annoyance coming from both parties – but Renji had to work with this man. He didn’t dislike Byakuya… Captain Kuchiki [ ʜᴇ ᴊᴜꜱᴛ ᴅɪᴅɴ’ᴛ ᴋɴᴏᴡ ᴍᴜᴄʜ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴ ᴏᴜᴛꜱɪᴅᴇ ᴏғ ᴛʜᴇꜱᴇ ᴛʏᴘᴇꜱ ᴏғ ꜱɪᴛᴜᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱ ] Work. While sitting there within these walls, Renji had realized this and brought forth the invitation – only to be SHUT DOWN.
That wasn’t unexpected, though. In fact, it had turned out exactly as he imagined. Lowering his head, Renji did feel an ounce of disappointment at the refusal. In the next moment, the Lieutenant began to take a stand – reaching and bringing the paperwork with him. [ ʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ ᴅʀᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ ᴏғғ ] Muttering an exit of some time, feet moved towards the door – though, before heading on out, Renji paused and added a final word before taking his leave.
——— ‘ Well Captain, if you do CHANGE YOUR MIND, we’ll be at Moonflower over in the southern district. Wouldn’t mind the company, Sir. ’
Now time to rush these sheets off to their next destination – then to meet Hisagi.

It was no wonder Captain Aizen had left this one out of the plans he was much too…difficult. While Gin would’ve had fun tormenting the red head he would’ve only put a complication in the plans…too bad really.
He’d have to settle for teasing when Captain Kuchiki, an also amusing target, wasn’t present.
“Well now that’sa bit better Lieutenant…ya shouldn’t take such big bites ya might choke.”
A witty comment fired right back at that last sentence [ ʙᴜᴛ ᴏɴʟʏ ɪɴ ʀᴇɴᴊɪ’ꜱ ʜᴇᴀᴅ ] That was because he knew that the argument would never end if he was to further engage this POINTLESS conversation. Without saying a word, the male did partially give his eyes a roll then proceeded to eat how he pleased. Perhaps taking a [ ᴛᴀᴅ ] larger bites than usual – just to poke at the rather irritating beast.
