How to Remove Reposted Gifs
Okay, after years of dealing with reposters and being told by them that there’s nothing as gifmakers we can do about it because we don’t own the original footage, I finally decided to try to report a repost. Now, all I’ve ever seen on tumblr is call out posts and advice to politely ask reposters to delete their stolen work but in my experience both usually lead to either a fight or just being ignored. So, after years of having gifs reposted I finally reported a recent repost. It worked and the post was deleted. Then I decided to see if it was a fluke and reported a post six years old and 3 urls ago and that worked too! Let me tell you, that one six years ago enraged me like no other. It had my url very clearly on the gif, double the notes of my original post, and years of me begging people not to reblog it and being ignored by the reposter. Today it has been deleted! Finally!
Since I’ve never seen a success story on how to get a repost removed I’m telling you how I did it, complete with a few visuals. Sorry it’s so long but I really could have used this a long time ago and I want people to see it.
So you see your work reposted. First go to your original post and click on the PAPER AIRPLANE, then COPY LINK…
Then go back to the repost, click the three dots ●●● found on top of the post, then click through these steps…
SOMEONE REPOSTED IT INSTEAD OF REBLOGGING IT
PASTE THE ORIGINAL POST LINK IN THE BOX
The link to the repost should already be in the repost box. You’ll get this email…
Now the first time I made a report I got an email back the next day asking for more information, this did not happen the second time…
I replied with the name of the movie and that I had made the gifs. The next day I got this email…
The process took 2 days each time but the reposts are gone. This might be common knowledge to most of you but I had no idea. I hope this helps someone. ♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎
