Robert Fontaine Gallery

The Robert Fontaine Gallery, which opened its doors in the Wynwood Arts District in December 2010, is a unique contemporary space within Miami’s burgeoning creative arts environment. The gallery provides a widespread platform for emerging, mid-career, established and master artists ranging in historical scope from the origins of American Pop Art to the most current evolutions of digital media, conceptual installation and urban interventionist (aka ‘street’) art. Gallery director Robert Fontaine is a seasoned dealer and curator, having forged longstanding relationships with professional and private clientele over the past decade. In both the primary and secondary sectors of the art market, Fontaine has garnered extraordinary access to works of both monetary and intrinsic value for a diverse, international collector base. Fontaine’s curatorial experience has led to widely-covered exhibitions in Athens, Köln, Moscow, São Paulo and Zurich. The gallery's mission is to highlight a variety of innovative perspectives, while maintaining a balanced audience of informed collectors and curious newcomers, alike. We ensure a critically engaging, yet approachable atmosphere for our patrons; employing an intellectually rigorous curatorial stance comprised of the industry’s most respected contemporary practitioners alongside groundbreaking young talent.

"I can see some kind of haunting beauty in these forgotten items," says British artist Nick Gentry (@nickgentryart), about the obsolete items like computer disks, film negatives, and x-rays that he collects from strangers and then assembles into human forms. "These materials combine to form a composition of interconnected histories. In a sense none of us has a singular identity because who we are is purely the result of who we have connected with." Nick describes his ambivalence towards this human machinery. "There's a certain vulnerability to being human," he says. "We are entirely dependent on the objects we create around us, increasingly so with regards to technology.
