I like the fact that in the context of Best Friends Whenever friendship is literally ‘magic’. The origin of Cyd and Shelby’s abilities is technically scientific, but the time travel itself is fueled by their ridiculously deep devotion\affection for each other Their friendship breaks the laws of physics.

TLM2 spoilers (in case you haven't seen it yet?)

plslpsflkfghgfh The detail of Emmet still looking relatively shiny and smooth while Lucy's all scratched up and worn/weathered down...

Look at her hands, even they're weathered down. Her clothes, her accessories... Even the windows of the house are scratched up from the state of the world they're living in.

But Emmet isn't.

He hasn't let life toughen him to that extent yet.

However,

he DOES show signs of use/wear in comparison to his original shiny, newer look from the first movie. Even down to the print on his vest fading, his hair and sleeves having noticeable scratches/wear.

Even at the end of the movie,

Rex's vest is worn down as he accepts his fate, where Emmet and Lucy look refreshed as they face the struggles/obstacles in their life with a new, hardened resolve to embrace their more lighterhearted side alongside their toughened selves.

I really love the little details in this movie... :') Figured I'd share what I noticed, maybe someone else will appreciate it, too.

Something similar I’ve noticed is that the scar on Rex’s arm isn’t a drawing or part of his figurine (the irl versions of his figurine don’t have it either)

It’s an actual crack in his plastic, showing how much he’s endured and has gone through- but also how worn down he is entirely.

Sadder alternative: Emmet's looks more new and less worn down because he IS new. He's a replacement. Finn lost the og Emmet and had to get a brand new, shinier replacement.
