Remember how Holly Black has always maintained that with faeries, phrasing is always important. When Grimsen gives the a-moon-and-a-star earrings to Jude for Tayrn, he says the earrings can make the wearer look more lovely- painfully lovely.

Now look at how Cardan describes Jude’s beauty at the Hunter’s Moon revel- Excruciating, Alarming. Distressing.

When Taryn sought to trick Cardan by posing as Jude, she wore those earrings- making her look heartchingly beautiful; and, Cardan was fooled. The fact that he was poisoned during this exchange is obviously important, but what I gather from this is that though Taryn and Jude were splitting images of each other- Cardan sort of learned to diffrentiate them.To him, it always hurt to look at Jude- to want her, despite himself, and to not be able to have her. And this pang of hurt, this yearning he felt towards Jude, became his way of telling the twins apart.

I think the way Holly Black weaves this aspect into the story with the help of enchanted earrings and clever phrasing is just beautiful!

Teen Titans is such a perplexing enigma of a show because y’know it’s got these heavy episodes featuring Raven’s genocidal father, a teenage girl betraying everything she’s worked for to work under an abusive figure, Robin becoming mentally unstable and paranoid over an enemy that isn’t there in one big plot of manipulation

and then there’s an episode where Beast Boy fights alien tofu and everyone getting turned into animals in a magic hat

Teen Titans + serious themes

I feel like we should talk about this more. Teen Titans was so good at handling these themes in a way that was suitable for children yet dark enough to impact adults. 

Its one of the 10000 reasons why this really was the best show.
