what’s happening in the notes are a combination of things.
fans: fans, especially young fa fans, will buy anything that their celeb favs will sell. literally anything. no matter how stupid.
starvation: people are acting like this is some deep shit are probably starved for deep shit and have never tasted actual deep shit. never read w.e.b. dubois, zora neale hurston, langston hughes, alexander michelle, coates ta-nehisi, cornel west and etc. so anything that kinda sounds deep (i.e. makes connections even non-existant, flimsy ones) they will eat up.
anchoring bias: anchoring bias is a cognitive biase wherein you are overly influenced by the first piece of information and it then clouds everything else you hear afterwards. since he starts out with actual facts such as “we need to build more schools and jobs than jails,” that truthful insight anchors most listeners in agreement so when he goes off the rails, they are still under the influence of that first statement and agreement and therefore agree with the nonsense afterwards. it’s a classic cognitive biase and trick. i think this is the biggest reason people are agreeing with him. he anchored them with that first statement of fact and truth.
halo effect: lastly the congnitive bias known as the halo effect is how we perceive people we find handsome, pretty or attractive to be smarter, more honest, more capable and etc. so if you’re someone who thinks jaden is a good looking guy and/or you find him attractive, you’re more likely to assume he’s also smart. that influences your view of him and what he says.
now there are some for whom ALL OF THESE THINGS are working together to influence their view and acceptance of this obvious bullshit. this is why i said i can see how someone like trump can become president. there are people always willing to buy nonsense.
the most fucked up thing is that there actual problem with the school system in america.
school to prison pipeline: this has not a fucking thing to do with hallways or bell so get the fuckouttahere with the bullshit. this is a well researched and documented issue having to do with suspensions and expulsions as punitive acts that are far more directed at black and brown kids than white kids for similar infractions.
over policing in schools: when school officers arrest kids they are arresting black and brown kids more often than not. another way the school system maintains the school to prison pipeline.
white bias for gifted programs: the likelihood of lack and brown kids with great grades being allowed into gifted programs is way less than white kids with similar grades.
white supremacist teaching programs: mostly every school in america teaches a white supremacy. it’s a way of educating kids in a way that clearly highlights the contributions of white people while belittle of dismissing the contributions of black and brown people. what you get out of that are kids are are have been subtly educated that white people are superior. a flat out lie.
i could go on but you get the gist. there are real issues with our educational system but since he doesn’t like school, he didn’t do any of the research or study, therefore has no real knowledge of these real issues so he just spews whatever nonsense he can conjure up in his mind. it’s actually pretty sad and pathetic.
