And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

"why don't Russians go and protest"
wanted to add some input as a russian who did go and protest - in some cases even if u want and can protest you are not able to do so.
often times police would gather in places where the protests are planned to take place + a lot of major points like big squares and streets and arrest literally everyone passing by those places.
I got arrested like that once, several streets away from the actual protest (I wasn't carrying anything on me, wasn't shouting anything). Some people sitting in a police car (bus? idk how to call that vehicle) were taken in from the nearby shops
that, combined with the fact that police can and will violate every law regarding detainment, straight up fake arrest reason and ignore every right you have, means a lot of people are unable to protest
I was in St Petersburg once when a Navalny protest was scheduled in Moscow (he was still free then). I went to the center for a stroll and was unsettled by all the avtozaks (prison trucks) gathered by the metro exit. Next to them, a swarming of men in cosmonaut helmets that don't let you see their eyes. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe!
