What I love is that people have different love languages for giving & for receiving. And the wonderful thing is that these 2 have matching love languages. On both counts, which is rare. I mean, some plants need periodic pruning back to grow out to their healthiest and best forms.............this doesn't look like that at all, mind you. So I'm still waiting for someone who know what they're talking about to be like, "yeah they killed those trees, too."

From a number of comments I've seen discussing it, it's possible that they're in violation of tree law and may have to pay a steep fine and/or replace the damaged trees with trees of a like age & species. Take it with a grain of salt, though, since I haven't heard any official statements from anywhere about legal consequences yet.
