Tommy managed to place a small smile on his face even though he wasn’t entirely sure how genuine it was – and he hoped to GOD that Rod wouldn’t notice. “I mean, I wasn’t going to tell you but as you seem so interested, maybe I should.” His eyes finally lit up with amusement as he leant forwards to laugh at Rod and his disgust. With a sigh, Tommy looked back on the essay he had no motivation to write and frowned. “Arithmancy.”
The grin, figures. “Thas’gross mate, no thank you.” For a moment, he felt dispirited. But then he reminded himself that if he wanted to keep Tom in his life, he’d have to go with it. He had to get on board with the source of Tom’s happiness was now someone else. And he could do that. He told himself he could do that. “I’ve finished mine-,” three days ago, “you want some help with yours? I haven’t got anywhere to be for-,” he looked down at his watch, “shit. Two-thirty already? Regardless- I’ve got a couple of hours.”

“Is it?” He smiled then, amusement brightening his green hues. “As opposed to…how are you usually?” He barely paid attention to rumors, but he knew Rab and that relationship wasn’t one hundred percent genuine due to blood status. Which meant while this chit chat was lighthearted, he assumed there’d always be that invisible barrier. “Dammit, I’ll be sure to have it on me next time.”
He paid close attention, not hiding how gross it was to him. But this wasn’t the first time he had to work with bizarre ingredients, so he could handle this. “I hope you have bandaids in case we have any accidents.” Chester began to do exactly what Rod had done, slowly as to not screw up. His cut wasn’t as neatly diagonal though.
“Standoffish and cold, obviously.” he answered as he looked back down into the pot, the foul odor began to disperse around the room. He had expected this, it was supposed to happen. Regardless, it was foul.
“This is an accident free zone. No dropping explosives, no live animals, no cutting off fingers-,” Rod paused, looking down at the sloppy diagonal. It would work. “Try it again.” He said, placing the next liver in front of Chester.

“Well then, I’ll just go without you-,” He stuck his head in the air, turned away, but then turned back to her. “That was before the ball, thank you very much.” He found himself about to take up for Emma. She wasn’t a wench. Her actions had made him angry, sure, but he didn’t want Gabby butting into it, getting the satisfaction over Emma being upset. But if he took up for Emma, when he had told her loudly and publicly that he was done, it would cause the riff between him and Gabby to further grow. “Was it spicy?”

Hadn’t she had the time to react, he abruptly ends their conversation and just.. leave. If she hadn’t been able to read through his mind, she would have been gutted and confused over his ridiculous act. But, he was sick and she left with no choice but run after him. It didn’t take her long before she catch up with him, just right before he disappeared through the door of the nearest bathroom. It’s still early and there are not many student around, Ella ( with all her might ) decide to follow him inside.
“–Are –are you alright?”
She’d followed him. Spectacular. “I’m peachy-,” he said somewhere between heaves. This had to be the last of it. Christ sakes- it had never been this bad before. Surely he wasn’t actually ill. He didn’t get ill. It was just the hangover. Right? He lingered over the toilet for another few minutes and then exited when he was sure he was done. Pale faced and sweaty- he stood looking at her. “you didn’t- you shouldn’t have- what do you want?

Emma had to blink back the tears that were threatening to fall, she needed to be strong. After all, this wouldn’t be the last time they’d see one another. “Then why the fuck even pretend.” She bit her lip, her gaze dropping to the floor as she tried to compose herself. After what felt like an eternity but was really only a moment, she looked up to catch his gaze once more. “Consider it gone.” It was a lie, as of right now, she felt as if her heart was breaking into a million pieces.
Rod was nearly done, he was about to walk away. Alone. But then he turned to look at her one last time and realized he wasn’t actually done yet. “Oh my god, are you about to cry?” A disgusting grin appeared on his face. It was out of shock. “Just wait a minute here. You were the one actively pursing two different partners and now you’re upset that one of them has decided to make the decision easier for you? What fuckin’ ever, Vanity. Grow up.”

But this was still his best friend. He could joke. And plus he hadn’t even meant it to be rude. “Any-way-,” He rolled his eyes, but it was a playful roll, “What’re we catching up on?”

Ella almost let out a snort in an entire amusement over his thoughts. She found it hard to believe that he hadn’t expected her to actually agree to take his offer ( or a gesture of courtesy, whichever works well to justify his act ). Although, she herself was caught in surprise at the decision she takes. Her gaze linger on his face for a split second before she had to look away. Of course, he noticed. Her red flustered face and made a remark over how ‘cute’ that is. As if anything could have been worse, her blush deepened. It’s more than enough embarrassment for her to cope. She cleared her throat before she begins.
“–I woke up early, every single morning. What got you up so early?”
She was blushing more. What was this? “Never went to sleep- or well I did- rather briefly,” he admitted. As he looked back down at his eggs, his stomach went light with the unwelcome familiarity of hungover-sick. He could feel it building, “I should- I’ve got to- toilet- excuse me,” Rod wasn’t too concerned about his image at this point, he was more considered about not getting sick in front of the few people in the great hall. He didn’t say goodbye, he didn’t say anything else, as he was nearly running to the bathroom outside of the great hall.
“Wow. Someone looks like they had a worse night than I did. I’m impressed.”

Ella had to hold her eyes from rolling ( for once ) at his answer. She doubts he’s adapting in anything but becoming such an infuriating self. She knew better than throw another jab at his remark, thus aiding his excessive confidence. Instead, she just pursed her lips together, forced herself to maintain her silence. At a glimpse of his ‘morning routine’, she couldn’t help but being.. worried concerned over his well being ( much to her dismay ). She had to tell herself, that he’s a grown up young man, who was capable of taking care of himself, but somehow his being speaks for the otherwise. A hint of a blush appears on her cheeks, as if he just caught her staring. She bit her lip and glanced away, contemplating to stay, but much to her own disbelief, she began to put her things away and placed herself at the empty spot in front of him.
She sat, that was a plot twist he hadn't expected. Wow. Now what? He tilted his head, allowing it the rest in the palm of his hand and continued to push his eggs around on the plate with the other hand. He looked back up at her- her face was turning red like some flustered school girl. Well, they were at school. And she did appear flustered over something. Rod, the master of his own outward disposition, had only been that way a few times. But he had been younger then. He thought it was kind of cute, for a busy-body American Hufflepuff. “What’s got you up so early?”

When he saw a sunrise, he usually couldn’t blink because it was so breathtaking. It was one of his favorite things, watching the sun sink or slowly return up above. It painted the sky with pinks and oranges that were beautiful, but today all it reminded him of was how he passed the forty-eight hour mark of no sleep. If he had managed to catch ten or fifteen minute naps within the past two days, he honestly couldn’t remember. Ever since he’d been sporting bandages on his left hand, he’d been running on autopilot.
It wasn’t footsteps or a certain noise that alerted him someone was there. It was the feeling of a warm presence that had approached, energy radiating from the figure that he really didn’t want to pay attention to. “I didn’t think anyone else was up yet.” Early hours of the morning like this, he had hoped to remain alone. Chester couldn’t keep it from showing on his face–he couldn’t deal with people right now. He didn’t want to.
Rod was out for an early morning run. He had managed to maintain this routine for years. Hungover, lacking sleep, whatever. Taking care of his body was important to him, regardless of how poorly he treated it when it came to the matters of intoxication. At first he ran past the other boy, he then realized it was one of the few people whom Rod had actually had a decent time with since the beginning of the school year- without having to fake the entire interaction. He backpedaled. “Wakefield.” He exhaled out- still lung tight from his hour of running. “What the hell are you doing up and out so early?”
