so i wanted to do a lil update on ffortissimo!! and where i’m at in the creating process.

i only recently got the 1st chapter done. i know i initially set a release date for sometime in early fall, but i think i need to push it back... really far back. i would like to get 10 chapters done before i start releasing them so i can stay ahead of the update schedule. this could take a few years. on the plus side chapter 2 is coming along more smoothly and quickly as i’ve gotten used to using csp to make manga.

tl;dr: ff!! is not coming in the fall as predicted, more like fall in a few years.

brain: okay, how ‘bout i stuff myself with cotton to derealize the whole situation and make it less stressful

me: no don’t do that, now i can’t see what i’m drawing

as an amateur comic artist i personally don’t like it when people, usually people who aren’t artists, say something like, “well, one’s art sucks but he’s a fantastic writer, so don’t sweat it.” one has worked hard, and it shows. his early stuff is some of the worst i’ve ever seen, but over the years he’s taken risks and gotten better. and i doubt his train of thought went something like, lmao well i suck so it’s okay if i put out something half-assed. if he had that line of thought he’d be doomed to fail. while it’s true that writing is the most important aspect of a comic, i don’t appreciate being told to work less hard on and care less about what i’m doing, plus i’m tired of ppl misunderstanding one as an artist. he’s great ok.

the csp assets page is like target for artists: you go in just needing 1 or 2 things and leave with 50 things you may or may not need

illinois shutting almost everything down because of covid-19 was well-timed in my case, i need as much free time to work on this thing as i can get.

cellists i need a little help as i’m writing/drawing a comic about one. do you ever have to carry your instrument out on stage or is it always set up a la percussion or bass (presumably the basses are set up, i don’t think i could ship a 6-foot-tall instrument out to stage with my ensemble)? if you do, how do you carry it? i’d probably carry it by the neck like i do with my violin (then again my cremona qumiby, age 8 is a lot smaller than the cello).

i hate lineart so much. like sketching is frustrating but fun, coloring and shading are frustrating but fun. meanwhile lineart is just pure frustration and the only fun i get out of it is occasionally turning off the sketch layer as a reminder that i’m not torturing myself for nothing.
