Tathar Malkirya is not an only child, but she is the eldest of her generation and by now, she definitely should have taken a place in her family's prestigious Shipwrights' Guild. The young elf blames her mother Valin, the Guild Master, for her general lack of enthusiasm for paperwork, broadcloth imports, and the history of filigree shapes in deck railing. After all, if her mother hadn't married a bard who had sailed the world, Tathar would not have been raised on songs and stories of the world beyond Alvesteria's harbor.
At first, Tathar merely ran away from home and joined the church of Sashelas, the God of the Ocean, enamored of the stories of His clerics who lived with dolphins and were emissaries between the people of the land and sea. She stood her vigil on a spring dawn and felt Sashelas' power infuse her like a storm rolling in off the water. But no dolphins came to claim her as one their own. Not long after, Valin Malkirya discovered where her daughter had gone and bought her back from the church in exchange for a substantial donation to the Pearl Halls.
Not to say that Tathar is unskilled at her family's ancestral work. She as a delicate hand with the carving tools and more than one vessel sports detail work she created. But the cleric feels her skills are better spent on smaller, finer things, and the guild has made a tidy profit from the violins Tathar has crafted.
She might have come to terms with her lot - after all, she is only 80 - staying close to her family and becoming an administrator in the guild, if not for one large problem. Her mother has contracted for Tathar's marriage to a distant cousin, Thoron Anarondo.
With her father Lindir's help, Tathar has slipped her mother's leash a second time. Calling herself simply Willow, the human translation of her name, she has gone south, heading to the Adventurers' Village Helmfirth. It's only a matter of time before life catches up to her, but in the meantime, Willow means to see how far she can go with a fiddle and the power of the sea.
