hello i havent used this blog in a while but i thought i'd put my little thoughts about something obsession related since i've seen a few tweets hypothesizing about things regarding the ending (plus i just really like obsession)

Obsession Spoilers!!!! Ahhh!!!

i think its obvious that at the ending of obsession we get a smidgeon of what could've been with freaky nikki wishing Love unto bear as he did with her

of course the circle, now unbroken, only lasts a few minutes before wish bear fucking dies in freaky nikki's arms before she too "dies" and leaves nikki with the consequences of (undebatably) his actions

it's a great twist of an ending i'd say

however as twitter people usually do, someone took the piss out of the ending and said almost verbatim "wish bear is the most tragic character of the entire movie", which was probably just engagement bait and whatever

but then it got me thinking...

while there's no real way to sugarcoat bear into being some great redeemable character without draining the entirety of the world's sugar supply, you do have to wonder how the whole demented dynamic would've gone had bear been willow'd alot earlier than the ending?

cause like what else really drove freaky nikki to murder and humiliation if not bear's free will? she's been forced to essentially be The Lover over anything and anybody, she'll make up anything just to make him seem closer to her while under the wish

of course we've seen what happens when her perfect illusion is shattered on multiple occasions, she gets extremely distressed and or upset and takes matters into her own hands to correct "reality" and be close to bear once again

so with the fact that under the whole lovesickness wish, nikki has been stripped of any freedoms and only acts to curate a delusion of perfect love, it makes you wonder what could've been had wish bear been introduced way earlier

because from the few minutes we get to "know" him, we can tell that he doesn't give a damn that freaky nikki's looking a total wreck, all he knows is he loves her more than anyone in the world [full circle moment here.]

and going back to the whole engagement bait tweet, the aspect of wish bear not having a moment to really indulge on the delusion tended to make my mind wander quite a bit

what really could have been?

do you think those little fun montage moments would've lasted longer had the two been fully on the same wavelength?

would wish bear have scarfed down a whole cat sandwich, and enjoyed it no less?

had it happened earlier, would ian and sarah have lived a lot longer?

and of course, my favorite thing to imagine; how would the moments of clarity have played out if there were two of them? how would freaky nikki react to wish bear suddenly freaking the fuck out? vice versa with wish bear?

it's just something to think about on your next rewatch

yesterday at 3am i decided to lock in for 2 hours

and then i spent the last hour making roger reflect on his life as a deadly teddy bear in the midst of bridget losing and discovering herself
