Conversation with Lily was always pleasantly easy. “Cat food can? One of those old DS cases?” Eyes rolling, he chuckled. “They aren’t that bad, honest. I won’t try to convert you, but we aren’t prats all the time. Everything alright at home? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“I’ll go for one of the old DS cases. Less smelly.” Lily raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. “Not that bad? Have you met James?” She questioned as she nodded. “Things are fine, honestly. Just it’s always a hard time going back when my sister and I aren’t speaking.”

“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, maybe we’ll be neighbors or something.” Remus smiled, not unkindly. “I imagine that would be quite terrifying.. I’m also envisioning you being stuffed into a large tuna can.” He sat back a bit, shoulders rising in a loose shrug. “We went back to Wales for a bit, so my mum had fun but… Yeah, I’m very glad to be back.” Glad that they allowed me back. “You?”

“I don’t have to worry about my chickens, I’ve got to worry about my ducks being in a row. That wouldn’t be half bad if it wasn’t for certain people knowing where you live. Out of all of you, I’d only be okay with you knowing where I live.” She shook her head. “Why a tuna can? At least pick something less smelly.” She shuddered. “I’m glad you did. As for me... things back home weren’t the best but I don’t have to put up with your boys at home.”

“He’s one of them Lily, he’s bullying kids just because they’re muggleborn!” Sirius scoffed, scrunching his face in disgust. “First years, he’s hurting little first years. But he’s nice to you, so that’s okay. We shouldn’t hex him for petrifying a third year but you can hex James just for asking you out.” He shook his head, scratching his jaw. “You can’t expect James to stand back and let stuff like that happen just because he fancies you, that’s not right.”

“I have yet to see him actually do that to anyone but I always see you guys hexing him. Who’s really the one that looks bad here? Certainly not Severus. He’s nice to me because we’re friends but you four seem to not know what that word means. I hex him because telling him no has apparently not worked. He still keeps bugging me and won’t understand that I’ll never give him the time of day!”

“Snape isn’t as nice as you seem to think he is, when you’re not around he’s hanging out with Lucius and his gang. Whatever James and I do to him, he deserves,” Sirius tried to reason, hoping that Lily would see Snivellus for who he really was before it was too late. “Why are you surprised by that? He’s zoned out during matches because he caught sight of you cheering and taken nasty falls, so him gushing about you is kind of a given.”

“I don’t care, Sirius! Do you ever think for one second that maybe he has to because besides me and the people in his house, no one is nice to him!” She yelled, already going into protective mode. “He’s still nice to me. He means a lot to me and if James actually cared about me, he wouldn’t be hurting the people that I happen to love.”

“If that’s really what you think of him, you don’t know him,” Sirius spoke, his voice soft. “I’ve known James since first year, he doesn’t care about being the best at everything, he’s just being himself and having fun. It’s not his fault he’s talented and attractive, but he never uses that stuff to hurt anybody. I’ve listened to him gush about you for hours, he cares about you.”

The one girl who doesn’t want him,” Sirius laughed, shaking his head in bewilderment. “Don’t get me wrong Evans you’re great, but I don’t know why he hasn’t given up on you yet.”

Lily looked over at him, laughing. “You just answered that yourself, Black. I’m the one girl that doesn’t want him. I’m sure that’s enough reason for the git to keep trying just to say he literally could have anyone in the school.” Lily looked down and wrapped her arms around her legs. “That’s all that is. He doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings, as long as he’s number one in just about everything.”
