“I think about you. But I don’t say it anymore.”
— Marguerite Duras, Hiroshima mon amour
“I’m homesick all the time … I just don’t know where home is. There’s this promise of happiness out there. I know it. I even feel it sometimes. But it’s like chasing the moon - just when I think I have it, it disappears into the horizon.”
— Sarah Addison Allen
“Nothing’s changed. You’ll go home. You’ll be bored. You’ll be ignored. No one will listen to you, really listen to you. You’re too clever and too quiet for them to understand. They don’t even get your name right.”
— Neil Gaiman, Coraline
“I will never say the things that I want to say to you. I know the damage it would do. I love you more than I hate my loneliness and pain.”
— Henry Rollins, Solipsist
If you want to become whole, let yourself be partial.
If you want to become straight, let yourself be crooked.
If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.
If you want to be reborn, let yourself die.
If you want to be given everything, give everything up.
-Lao Tzu
“Don’t listen to what people say, watch what they do.”

“Don’t play for safety. It’s the most dangerous thing in the world.”

“We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
— Gayle Forman
“I’d rather die without having anything than accepting something from the kind who later brags about what I have is because of them”

“If you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself, get a better mirror, look a little closer, stare a little longer, because there is something inside you that made you keep trying despite everyone around you that told you to quit. You built a cast around your broken heart and signed it yourself, you signed it “they were wrong””

“A father was walking with his hand hanging on the shoulder of his son. He asked his son: “Son, who do you think is the strongest in this world between me and you?” The son without thinking or doubting for a second said: “Definitely me!” The father became quiet. He dissapeared in his own thoughts thinking about himself and his own father back in the days. How he looked up to his father and how his father was his hero and how his own son thinks about him today. The night came and they were sitting in the garden. The son was struggling and couldnt open a bottle of water. He came over to his father and asked if he could open it. The father looked at him and chose to ask that same question again. This time the answer was different. Instead of saying that he himself was the strongest in the world, he said that his father was. His father asked: “What changed? Earlier today you said that you are the strongest and now you are saying that I am?”. The son replied: “Nothing has changed. Earlier today when you asked, you had your hand on my shoulder. With your hand on my shoulder and you by my side I will always be the strongest man in this world. Without you I am nothing.””

“Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.”

“Perhaps the greatest faculty our minds possess is the ability to cope with pain. Classic thinking teaches us of the four doors of the mind, which everyone moves through according to their need. First is the door of sleep. Sleep offers us a retreat from the world and all its pain. Sleep marks passing time, giving us distance from the things that have hurt us. When a person is wounded they will often fall unconscious. Similarly, someone who hears traumatic news will often swoon or faint. This is the mind’s way of protecting itself from pain by stepping through the first door. Second is the door of forgetting. Some wounds are too deep to heal, or too deep to heal quickly. In addition, many memories are simply painful, and there is no healing to be done. The saying ‘time heals all wounds’ is false. Time heals most wounds. The rest are hidden behind this door. Third is the door of madness. There are times when the mind is dealt such a blow it hides itself in insanity. While this may not seem beneficial, it is. There are times when reality is nothing but pain, and to escape that pain the mind must leave reality behind. Last is the door of death. The final resort. Nothing can hurt us after we are dead, or so we have been told.”
