Teledji quirked a brow real quick at the two men’s exchanges. And that quickly turned into a startled expression. Was leaving his precious new vehicle here the best choice? His shoes probably cost more than their counter. And those pipes he mentioned? How old was this place anyway…

“R-right!” Teledji cleared his throat once Rook turned to him, “Your friend is quite loud isn’t he?”

At first he smiled in a well rehearsed familiar way, just the usual smile of a merchant. It was just a run down shop with a young inexperienced mechanic with obviously good skill if he was recommended and still not starved. But something was different in Teledji now - a little voice of conscious that was turning loud and urging him to take actions he’d have deemed absurd in the past.

‘Help others in a way you wish someone had once helped you … ‘ idealistic foolish babel, but he was going to give it a try.

“You know, if you are having a passion for this craft, you should invest some of your hard earned gil into your own shop. Skill is a must yes, but presentation is what catches the eye of a customer.. and you need those.” Teledji finally spoke with an even tone holding a note of concern, “If I pay you in advance will I have your word that you will use the gil to fix your pipes and your fan? Twelve know one of those blades may fly off and I assure you, ridding yourself of a dead body is way harder than you may think.”

He thought for a moment, “Although, if it gets to that, I do know two fine fellows who could lend a hand with that.”

Rook chuckled and waved a hand about at the question. “Max is just ah...a bit more outgoin’, to a fault sometimes. But he’s as sharp as a tack so no worries there.” The humble mechanic walked over to the diagnostic machine, firing it up in preparation to accommodate Teledji’s vehicle. He’d cant his head to the side when his customer mentioned fixing up the shop with the gil that would be provided, prompting Rook to cease his fiddling with the machine. He’d turn and approach the well meaning man, kneeling so that the pair were eye level.

“We may not be the fanciest shop around, but what we lack in bells and whistles we make up for in quality service. A place may have glitterin’ gold trim but if its missing heart and good intentions then its bound to be as cold as Shiva’s domain. Max and I...well we’ve struggled to get this far, wasn’t an easy journey but the day we got this place was the happiest we’ve ever been. Even if ah...we found a family of ground squirrels livin’ in the rafters and the water came out brown from the plumbin’. Slowly but surely we’re making improvements, but our goal...is to become as skilled as the great Cid Garlond.”

Rook stood and turned around, motioning to the portrait of the famed Ironworks leader that hung behind the counter. He’d even go as far as to salute the portrait, eyes filled with pure admiration. “What a legend, a pure genius in the field of Magitek. I’ve read every manifesto and book he’s ever published...he’s without a doubt my hero, after my dad of course. If I have even a fraction of his talent and skill by the time I’m old and gray, I’ll consider my life’s work a success.” He’d look back at Teledji with a smile, balling a fist to pump in the air with enthusiasm. “So don’t you worry about a thing Mr. Addy-ledji, your vehicle will not only be mended but it’ll shine so nice ya can look at yer reflection in the hood afterwards!” Rook planted a hand on the counter to lean on it, bursting with confidence. But in doing so it rattled the brass trimming lining the upper edge, causing the screws to come loose and dislodge it entirely, hitting the floor with an audible ‘CLANK!’. Rook stood there and blinked, squinting a little.

“Of course...a few repairs wouldn’t be that bad of an idea...heh...” He’d give his new found friend a shy smile followed by a nervous clear of his throat.

“Of course I have to impress.” Teledji confirmed with a small huff, “I can’t give the wrong impression about myself now…” Adrian Jense. He spoke confidently but the lalafell couldn’t help but try to take a peek at the surroundings of the workshop. If he truly was so good, wasn’t he supposed to appear more wealthy? Or perhaps he was not the type to brag with his coin.

“Ah, yes! Name is Teledji Adeledji, tis fine meeting you mister Jensen.” Teledji grinned, now fixing his look back on the man. “The gil is not of concern, I only seek to have it repaired on time. Though I would like to know if you prefer payment up front or not.”

Finally he clasped hands again with that big grin. Brief silence stood beteween them while Rook was filling the papers and silence wasn’t something Teledji was fond of…

“Say, you look rather young to be so good at your craft, if the rumors are true that is. For how long have you been doing this if you don’t mind me asking.” 

And while he was to answer the question or not, Teledji lowered his shades to look about some.

Rook scribbled down the name once it was given, checking boxes and filling in lines. His quill began to act up, prompting the hyur to wiggle it up and down rapidly in an effort to get it to work again. “Cheap dodo feathers...” He grumbled under his breath. 

The shop itself certainly had...personality. While it appeared official in every conceivable way, from the bay doors at the front and a diagnostic machine off to the side, there were noticeable flaws littered about the quaint establishment. The fan spinning on the ceiling made a ‘squeaka squeaka squeaka’ noise every third rotation as if the blades would fly off at any moment, wobbling in an unsteady spin. The paint on the walls was cracked in many spots and it appeared that one of the stools had an uneven third leg, propped up with a folded piece of paper under the bum wooden stump. If Rook was rolling in riches he must’ve been the stingiest spender this side of Eorzea. It smelled what one would think a place that services machines might, oil, rubber and metal aromas wafting through the warm air circulating in the room.

Rook ran his fingers through his messy hair which sprung back into place as he finished filling out the form, blue eyes darting back to Teledji from his inquiry. “Well I’m sure most of those rumors are exaggerated to some degree, probably started by my brothers to give me a hand. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to vehicles I’m definitely your guy. But I wouldn’t call myself the Primal of mechanics, heh. I’m twenty-eight and some change, been tinkerin’ with all things mechanical since I was a bitty boy much to my Ma’s annoyance. Imagine her delight when she walked in and found her boy dismantling her favorite counter clock. Got my hide tanned real good for that.” He’d chuckle a bit before holding up a finger. “One moment please.”

Rook turned to call out toward the back in order to get the attention of his associate. “EY MAX! Mind gettin’ Mr. Addy-leji’s car into the bay?” He heard no response at first, prompting him to clamp his hands on his hips. “MAXEON!” He’d call out while tapping his foot impatiently. To his surprise the door to his small loft apartment on the second floor opened instead, someone’s head popping out. Max was dripping wet with soap suds in his sleek silver hair, giving Rook a death glare no less.

“I’m in the shower ya ding dong!” Max yelled.

Rook made a face, balling his fists. “Now you get outta my shower Maxeon! Those rickety pipes are only good fer two uses a day and I gotta get clean at some point!” He stamped a foot, eye twitching due to frustration.

“Just hose off out back.” 

“I can’t do that again! Poor Missus Klein walked in on me doing that once. It took four apology letters and three baskets of Ma’s cookies to make up for that trauma. Now git yer no good butt outta my shower and help me out with Mr. Addy-leji’s car, he’s got a deadline!”

Maxeon grumbled and closed the door to wash off, the words leaving him likely not family friendly in the slightest. Rook sighed and bowed his head, pinching the bridge of his nose as he returned to his likely perplexed customer. “Eh heh...sorry about that ser. Max is a good guy really just ah...well you can see why I man the counter.” He mumbled while rubbing the back of his neck, giving the poor fellow an embarrassed smile.

The La Noscea Invitational is known for its risky course design, with wild turns near high cliffs and wild goobbues who are not fond of racing at all!

Some could call Teledji stingy and that was for a reason. Often he would cut from the budget for important things such as his employees’ salaries but he would never cut from the limitless budget for his own comfort. 

Thankfully he has been turning more generous over the last two years, having seen the errors in his previous ways but the habit of buying whatever he wanted for himself still remained. His secretary Nenette had to often deal with impulsive purchases which she hoped he’d forget about and she could return before a hole in the budget appeared but unfortunately this was not the case of the … … Massive regalia car with build in flight mode.

Massive for a lalafellin anyway. And of course despite all warnings Teledji Adeledji had drove into the sunset to test this new possession only to crash shortly after. Miraculously enough he was mostly unscarred, even if Nenette had hoped he had broken at least a leg or something so he would stay still for a bit.

But no. Teledji Adeledji was now visiting the most recommended and cheapest mechanic to fix his regalia car and he was about to greet him with the biggest possible grin on his face. The kind of grin door-to-door salesmen splat on their faces when you know they want your money.

“Good morning!” Teledji beamed as soon as he saw Rook. And behind him? Gorgeous expensive vehicle with a very wrinkled front. “I was told you are a man who fixes things, quite well too. Well, I don’t need fixing, as you see I’m still well put together.” Teledji paused, “…usually, but my car does need your expert eye!”

“Surely you can fix it to run and fly nice and smoothly before The Rising?” and he was demanding too, “I have someone I want to show the fireworks up close, I can’t do that on a chocobo, you know…”

Teledji found himself at a humble but reasonable mechanic shop, a bit hole in the wall but made with love. The front door was left open to keep a steady stream of airflow moving through the otherwise hot space, fans spinning on the ceiling to maintain circulation. As he went through the door he’d hear a small bell go off above the door, prompting the man behind the counter to turn around with a big smile. “What can I do ya for?” He’d begin, before realizing that there was no one immediately in his field of vision. He’d lean over the counter and look down to see the prideful car owner who did have a bit of a pickle to solve. This prompted him to lean over and glance out of the open door, seeing the damaged vehicle parked outside.

Rook pushed up his pale blue goggles to give a perplexed blink, darting his eyes between the impressive car back to its owner. “Well yes ser, ya be hearin’ that correctly. I’ll need to give it a bit o’ a closer inspection to assess the damage, but from here it looks like an easy enough job.” He’d lean back from the counter to fetch the paperwork, chuckling a little when Teledji spoke of his intent with the car. “Ooohh I see...gotta impress a lady friend huh?” He’d flash the gambler a coy wink. “I read ya loud n’ clear chief, don’t ya worry. By the time we’re finished it’ll shine nicer than newly minted gil. I just need yer first n’ last name fer the paperwork then we’ll get that beauty in the shop for a better look-see.” He brushed a few rogue locks of his fussed hair from his grease smudged face, checking off a few boxes on the document while awaiting his reply. “The names Adrian Jensen by the by, though most just call me Rook. Whatever suits yer fancy my fine dressed friend.”

Chips! Doritos, pringles, lays, I love them all. Although as I get older I do try to consume them less than I used to, I still don’t mind indulging now and then. They’re the perfect snack and go well as a side for sandwiches so it’s a pretty flexible food.

Hmm that’s a tough one as I don’t typically wear scents IRL, just soap and shampoo. But I can say that vanilla is my personal favorite scent, and likely why one of my characters wears the fragrance primarily. Then again I do use vanilla flavored vape fluid so I suppose it still works overall, even if a little off keel haha!

“Finally made it to some place called Eel Meg or somethin’ like that. I found the most wonderful creature I’ve ever seen. They’re called Amaro and some of ‘em can speak! I wanted to take ‘em all home but they seemed content where they were, so I opted fer some selfies instead. My family is gonna lose their minds when they see them. I hope an Amaro will come with me some day, even if my chocobo might get a lil green on the partnership.”
