Chapter 3
Brownpelt
Patrolling borders. It felt so weird that LightClan had gone back to normal instantly after Inkkits arrival. Sure, Coldgaze still acted as if the tiny kit was possessed by Dark Forest warriors, but other than her, no-one seemed to care all that much about the new kit. She was bold, but so were her adoptive brother and mother, so she fitted right in. Feathertail was grateful when Brownpelt had reinforced the den after Inkkit moved in, isolating the cats better from the cold. After that, it was back to regular tasks, including patrolling borders. She waited for her patrol to catch up as she marked the old dead tree on their border with IceClan.
'I'm freezing my tail off Brownpelt! I'm the most vulnerable in leaf-bare, why can't I stay inside and nurse kits, I can do that!'
'You aren't a she-cat, mouse-brain.'
'Fair point.' Breezefur agreed reluctantly. He tried to floof up the limited amount of fur that he had, gave up and pressed his face into Brownpelts side. Brownpelt rolled her eyes and took a step to the side. Breezefur flopped face-first into the snow, much to Brownpelts satisfaction. Breezefur got up and gave her a hurt look.
'Really?'
'I'm not your warm nest, I'm your deputy. Where is Owlfeather?'
'I'm here! I just saw a REALLY beautiful butterfly!'
Owlfeather bounded over to the two waiting cats. He was only recently made a warrior and in Brownpelts opinion sometimes still acted like an apprentice.
The three cats continued walking along the border, Brownpelt left scentmarks along some points. When they had reached the Great Mountain, Brownpelt and her patrol were about to turn back until she spotted a patrol approaching them. From the other territory. Brownpelts gaze hardened when she saw the she-cat leading the patrol.
'Brownpelt. What are you doing on the border.'
'Patrolling. Same as you. We haven't done anything wrong, so I think it's best if we don't make a conflict out of this. Frozentoe.'
The light grey she-cat stared Brownpelt in the eye, her freezing blue eyes colder than Breezefur in leaf-bare.
'There may not be a need for conflict right now, but I'd say it's best we keep it that way. You know how cold it is in leaf-bare and we really couldn't use LightClan preystealers in IceClan territory.'
'Are you accusing me of being a preystealer?!' Brownpelt spat.
'No. Not you specifically. All I'm saying is this. If even a single LightClan cat steps over this boundary, they'll feel my claws. A single pawstep over the line and I'll make sure you regret it. I know some of your cats have stolen before.'
'That was seasons ago. We already assured you then that it wouldn't happen again.'
The two she-cats stared at eachother for a few more moments before Brownpelt looked away from the IceClan deputy.
'Buf fine with me. You may punish cats crossing over the border. Because you'll find no LightClan cat is even remotely interested in stepping into IceClan territory, Frozentoe. We'll go, but don't think you can order us around for even one moment. It's just because I'm done with my border patrol.'
She sniffed and signaled for her patrol to leave. As soon as they were out of earshot, Breezefur walked up to her.
'I don't think we should be afraid.'
'Why not?'
'She said that crossing cats would feel her claws but she probably won't have any left by the time that happens.'
Brownpelt shoved him.
'I should report that to Sunstar.'
'You would if you hadn't found it as funny as you did.'
Brownpelt grinned.
'Fair point.'

Fading Lights
Prologue
The rocks beneath the golden she-cats feet were cold and slippery. It was the middle of leaf-bare and even in her Clan, the cold was overwhelming. Still, she pushed on, she was on a mission. She had to speak to her ancestors. Recently, their stream of water had completely frozen over and not only did that make finding water a lot harder, it could also be a sign from StarClan. A sign to watch out for their most feared enemies, IceClan. While the she-cat did not fear them like some others in her Clan did, they were dangerous, especially in leaf-bare. As she heaved herself atop a boulder, she saw the ancient rock, Starpeak, just a bit above her. That was the place where her ancestors were the closest to the living. She prepared to climb the last part, when she heard a tiny squealing sound. It sounded like a kit.
'Hello? Is anyone there?'
The golden cat looked around her. Surely no mother would leave her kit out here, alone? There had to be someone. A loner maybe? There couldn't possibly be a kit by itself here?
'Hello?'
The squealing started again, but this time, the she-cat decided to follow the noice. She was led to a tiny heap of snow. Carefully, she scraped some snow away. A tiny kit lay shivering underneath it. The she-cats green eyes went wide in astonishment. This kit had been abandoned! In the leaf-bare snow! She had to get it to safety, at once. She lifted the kit in her jaws and flew down the mountain, her paws landing hard on the rough surface, her ancestors could wait. This kit would die without her. She ran through her territory and ran into a patrol.
'Sunstar? I thought you were-
'No time Jayriver. Get me to Oakleaf, now.'
The camp wasn't far, but it felt like an eternity for Sunstar. When they did get there, she shouldered her way to Oakleaf, ignoring the questions she got from her Clanmates. She had to find the medicine cat. Sunstar found him in his den, sorting through some leafs.
'Oakleaf! I need you!'
Oakleaf looked around, found Sunstars gaze and ran over. Sunstar gently put down the kit in the snow. The medicine cat looked at the little bundle for a moment.
'Will she make it?' Sunstar asked, trying not to think what would happen if he said no.
Thankfully, Oakleaf nodded.
'She will. But I have to get her to Feathertail, at once.'

Hi there! My name is Beewing, I'm buddies with @rooktalon
As you may see on her account, she made some posts regarding cats from a story called Fading Lights, which is a warrior cats fanseries with my own Clans and characters (plus some Rooktalon made!)
I'm the one writing that story and from now on, you can expect chapters from this story on my account! I'll probably post at least once a week and as this is my first post, I'll give you guys a small intro, so you'll know what to expect...
Around the Great Mountain live three Clans of cats. LightClan, the Clan living in the sunny fields and forests on one side, IceClan, who live in the snowy pine forests on the other side and RockClan, where cats made their home in abandoned Twoleg mining tunnels under the ground.
Leaf-bare has be incredibly cold this year and tensions between LightClan and IceClan are running higher than ever and when a RockClan apprentice gets a prophecy from StarClan, it could very well tear all the Clans apart...
