An eyebrow raised upon hearing the name the man seemed to give to the thing that had made the strange noise. Things made even less sense to Shiloh when they were suddenly joined by the shady and angry looking bloke, and his apparent feathered hostage. He began to place things together as he spoke to the police officer. It was seeming more likely that he actually was in fact, an officer, and that the creepy-looking man was the real lunatic.Â
Bleeding Christ, what the hell have I got myself into? Shiloh wondered, and contemplated if either would notice if he quietly slipped away before he became too enthralled in whatever bizarre situation was going on here. His thoughts were interrupted by the mention of something about bashing a skull. That was when he noticed the others -members of some gang for butt-ugly large blokes dressed in black apparently- as well as the metal pipe, a little too late. Shiloh scrambled to move as he turned his head just in time to see the man holding it charge towards him, lifting it in the air. He probably would have been hit, had the other man not pulled him out of the way.
When the group began to close in on the two of them, Shiloh braced himself. He knew that they had weapons, and that he clearly did not. Perhaps the police officer had a gun? He could only hope so, as he prepared himself to do whatever he had to to defend himself. He watched as the officer managed to fight off one of them, and then another, holding him in a head lock. It took his mind a moment to process anything for before he was ordered to run. Shiloh looked around instead, wondering if it was worth jumping in to help the man, although he seemed well off on his own. He didnât have much time to make up his mind before he saw something in the corner of his eye. One of the thugs, who hadnât been shoved off, coming at him with whatever weapon was in his hands.
âShit!â Shiloh yelled as he ducked out of the way, and ran past the attacker into the darkness of an alleyway. He kept on running, making turn down the blackened corridor, and then another. He nearly stumbled over foreign objects on the ground, as he could literally see nothing in front of him in the darkness. He could only hear his boots against the pavement and his own heart, racing inside his chest, and then a sudden clash of metal as he ran into something large blocking his path. Reaching out, he felt what seemed to be a chain linked fence. Unsure of how far the others were behind him, he started to climb, scrambling to find his footing and pull himself up and over.
âOof!â he groaned as he slipped over and fell several feet, dropping to the ground and landing on his side, like a sack of potato. He lifted himself upright sitting against the fence and still struggling to catch his breath. He slowly let out a long sigh of relief, shutting his eyes. He didnât see or hear anything else, which meant he must have managed to get away. âAll thisâŠ.over a damn bird. Are you fucking kidding me?â he said under his panting breaths. He thought about calling the police. Was that really necessary? Surly the officer would have called for back up by now. That was, unless heâd been clobbered to death already. He listened to see if he could hear sirens in the distance. Instead he heard footsteps echoing nearby. Shilohâs eyes grew wide as he made a quick move to get off of the pavement, but not before he felt something near his hand and picked it up. A glass bottle of some sort. If nothing else, he could smash it and use it to defend himself.  âWhoâs there!?â he called out, looking around through the darkness.
âWell, well constable,â the ringleader teased. âWhat will it be the life of your feathered friend or that civilian?âÂ
Rory balled his hand into a fist that he used to throw a punch at the last thugs nose, effectively stopping the thug in his tracks and forcing him to stop as he reeled from the tears of the broken nose. Glaring at his foe, Rory pointed a finger at him, âIt times like these you should be grateful Iâm not an on-duty AFOâ Rory shouted before taking off in the direction the two man had run off in. âSorry Hercule, Iâm going to need you to hang in there a little longer,â  he said to himself as he sped up his pace.Â
Following the heavy boot prints on the ground, the off-duty officer heard the echoing of steps hitting the ground coming from a dark alley. Before going down the dark pathway, Rory pulled out his mobile phone and sent a text to all his police contacts with a map not having time to spare on typing a worded message. Grabbing whatever he could get his hand on, Rory took hold of the metallic lid of a trash can in the alley way. Â
âTime to take out the trash!â the Scotsman quipped as he knocked the thug out with a whack to the head with the trash bin lid. The man fell forward giving Rory a view of the person on the other side of the chain link fence. The officer quickly searched the thug for any weapons but only found a ripped piece of paper. Â
âHey you!, You can come out of hiding,â Rory called out to the man he had stopped earlier. âAnd put down that broken glass before you hurt yourself,â he warned. âThis guy wonât be up for a few minutes, though if anyone asks, he tripped and fell on his own.â pushing his hair back in though, Rory let the man before him go. âYou should be able to catch a bus just down the road, and best you forget what happened here. Now if you excuse me Iâve got some people to find, though I donât have much to go on, all this guy had was a slip of paper with sime random numbers on it,â Rory held up the small slip briefly to the other man before putting the paper in his pocket.Â
