Not to be too controversial, but I've realized that I tend to love couples who understand each other, make each other happy, and generally get along :) That's not to say they communicate perfectly or don't have their share of conflicts! Perfectly harmonious relationships are obviously not realistic in fiction or real life. But the older I get, the more irritated and exhausted I am by couples who are constantly 'bickering' (aka arguing), fail to connect or find any common ground, are constantly annoying each other (and annoying me by extension!), etc. I'm sure this opinion is biased by real life experience, but to me that isn't chemistry, just evidence that the couple in question is insanely incompatible. So a lot of very popular couples like Elizabeth/Darcy (who actually don't even know each other and spend the four conversations they have either arguing or in painfully awkward silence lol), Luke/Lorelai, Piper/Leo (my god, does she EVER stop sniping at, bitterly criticizing, and complaining to and about Leo or anyone else?!) Joey/Pacey (don't get me started), Ross/Rachel (you want to get me started even less with these two lol), etc. tend to be NOTPs me even though I can understand why they're OTPs for most. Maybe I just lack the imagination to see how their constant mutual irritation and inability to go ten minutes without fighting is actually a love language lol, but since my real life has enough conflict and angst, in fiction I find myself gravitating towards couples who LIKE each other as well as love each other and who connect and enjoy each other more often than they argue. If other people find any of the couples mentioned above irritating, save a seat for me at our tiny table!
