“Oh yeah, the shelter is honestly kind of great. I’m sure I’m biased but it’s one of the coolest places in town, at least to me it is. But if you’re interested in adopting, you should definitely consider it. Or least visit to see if any of the pups call out to you.”

“Evie, you’re too nice. But I really am pretty close to just going and picking one out today. Uh! I feel like it will be the hardest decision of my life!”

“You’re right, they all deserve the love and definitely they deserve good homes. Especially after ending up at a shelter.” Rory said, her passion for helping the animals getting the best of her. “I like the name Rex, a lot. Is there a specific reason as to why you went with Rex, or is it because it’s just such a good dog name?”

“My logic is foolproof, see?” she replied with a laugh, “Which part, the talking not talking you into things, or the fact I did it so well, that you can’t blame me if it doesn’t work out since I didn’t talk you into this?”
“Clearly, you’re just a pro at it all.” She smiled, her cheeks beaming with happiness. “You should get paid for stuff like this, the whole ‘not talking people into things’ thing.”

“Welp, I’m certainly not going to stop you. But if I could help weigh in with name choices, may I offer up J.K. Growling, Vera Fang, Pawtrick Stewart, William Shakespaw, Hairy Pawter, and Ramen?”
“All great selections, I cannot lie!” The brunette laughed, her smile full of giggles at this point. “But the two I have my eye I already know by name, and I think it would kill me to change either of them.”

“You run a shelter and you’ve had a pretty good track record with it so far. I think you’re safe to adopt a dog, you know what you’re doing. Besides, the goal is to get the dog to a good home right? You’ll be giving one a good home.”
“You are absolutely right, Colton. All those cuties need good homes, that’s all I’ve been trying to do for the past year. Find good people for some good pups. I just don’t want to jinx that by bringing home a dog and not giving it all the love and attention it needs, you know?” She said, shrugging her shoulders before she continued. “That was awfully nice of you to say, though. I feel like a lot of this town has more faith in me than I do myself.”

“Emma, you’re just so awesome. But please be so awesome that you make sure I don’t try to take more than one home today? Pretty please?”

“I’m surprised it took you this long to get one. I would say you have shown great restraint in the face of great odds.”
“I think it’s my nerves that really helped me restrain myself, you know? Responsibilities are hard to just jump right into.” Rory said, a soft sigh escaping her mouth before she found a smile creeping on her face. “But honestly, I don’t think I can hold back anymore.”

“Dogs are great and what better than to give one of those pups a home. Added bonus, it’s already a dog from the shelter so it probably already loves you.” Dash said thinking on the bright side. “You can’t tell me there isn’t one that’s calling to you?’
Dash had made some really good points, which made Rory start to really overthink things again. “You’re right. There’s actually two in mind that I would love to adopt. It’s just choosing between the two that’s gonna break me, honestly.”

“Well, a bad track record in the best doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to have a pet. Sometimes you just need to grow up a little first. You work at the shelter? That’s so fun! I’ve never had a pet of my own, but I’ve been thinking about getting one soon myself.”
“I really wish that my past didn’t feel like it was always haunting me. Especially my mistakes, you know? But yeah, I do work at the shelter, Vince and I actually own it. It’s given me the most joy in life as of late, and the dogs really just give you a good sense of comfort. Well, whether I adopt or not, I really think you should consider it. We have plenty of furry friends that need a good home.”

“…Rory how is this even a question? Adopt the puppy, so I can come play with it.”
“If that’s the case, then I’m gonna need your help finding the right four-legged companion.”

“You’re right. It’s either a puppy or a kid that teaches you the hardest life lessons, but since kid’s aren’t ever gonna be in my future, I might as well learn from the cutest animal on the planet. Right?”

“You should, you should totally adopt a pup, there’s so many puppies that need a home, I have a little puppy now. He’s a Husky, and I couldn’t be more glad that I have him, he’s the cutest thing ever, having a pet is awesome”
“I don’t even know if I need to get a puppy. I wouldn’t mind adopting one of the old farts, they’re just as loving as the young ones.” She said, a soft grin around her cheeks. “What’s your pup’s name?”

“I’m a bad influence, so I am definitely not someone you should listen to but you should definitely get the puppy. Or, since you’re not meant to be listening to me, don’t get the puppy– therefore using that logic, by my telling you not to get the puppy, you should get the puppy.”
“Alright-- that’s it. You’ve talked me into it. Or you haven’t, I guess?” Rory spoke, a wide smile across her face. She liked the woman’s tactic and was quite grateful to have someone there to talk through her ramblings with. “It’s like you’re a pro at this stuff, huh?”
