has definitely started one too many family arguments just because she can — i envision that she's not really on the Best of terms with her parents and even though there's love there, they've disagreed too many times and aren't some close family unit. depending on what her siblings have grown up doing, i imagine varying degrees of closeness with rosalie, but growing up, she hung the stars in their eyes and them hers. she adored being a big sister.

she has definitely forgotten to pay her electricity bills on more than one occasion, for no other reason than the fact that she likes any excuse to use the kerosene lamp or light a candle to get around the house. then someone told her that after so many times, the power company would permanently cut her off and that that was frowned upon, so she learned her lesson, but still.

You and me both. This is, without a doubt, the best time of year, second only to Christmas. Are you doing any gardening of your own this year, or just saving all of the blooming magic for the farm?

Sometimes it’s hard to get used to something like the cold! I feel like the cold will just be there and we will exist in it. Then we’ll just keep talking about how cold we are. The wind does sneak up on us! If it’s a sunny day I’d think it’s just sunny but then as soon as I go out, I need a jacket! I feel like at this point, Phil has his own agenda and likes to just mess with us. That's what he is there for, not to give us an actual answer but just to mess with our heads. That's true too, why not treat ourselves, huh? We totally deserve it! Yeah, they do love the kit kats and other chocolates I find and bring to the classroom. I do. I'm a teacher at the community college. And even though I teach adults, they love a good candy bar. And it can be pretty motivational too. Also helps with the lesson sometimes too. They like to have something in front of them. If it's chocolate? Even better haha.

Right? And then, once you've accepted your fate of being cold and that maybe it's not all that bad, bam. Spring comes out of nowhere and brings all of that goddamn pollen to wreak havoc on us. It's like the seasons never give us a break. And It's always the wind that makes everything worse. It's why there's some types of severe weather that I don't fuck with, solely because the wind elevates all of it and makes it infinitely worse than it needs to be. Messing with our heads sounds about right. He's probably the one who tells us that we can't keep Daylight Savings year round, or that the extra day in February every four years is, in fact, necessary. Crazy all of the made up things that we just accept, even though no one would be the wiser if we simply left them alone. Wow, even more respect for you. I imagine teaching adults to be awfully similar to teaching children, except they're bigger and probably pay taxes to some extent. Everyone loves a candy bar, no matter what age! What classes do you teach over at the community college? I know if I were a student, I'd be easily swayed with chocolate. Makes the task at hand all the more worthwhile.

I can understand it, I'm a beach guy. Sure, you can go enjoy the beach in the middle of December, but it's not the same as being able to surf or even splash around in the shallows, right? I do like the aesthetic of a town covered in snow, kids sledding, getting to go skiing or skating, but I also like getting into my blankets and warming up immediately after. I don't think they do know for sure, I think they just sort of… guess, based on his reaction. But he could have seen anything that scared him, at that point. I'm not sure! I like a lot of ice creams, narrowing it down to five would be… a challenge, to say the least. I like the motivational quotes, too! That, and the facts in the snapple bottles. I… admittedly read a lot of psychology books, always studying up, but I did make a good crab soup the other day.

Oh, it's nowhere near the same. Even walking on the beach isn't quite the same; if you were to walk right at the water's edge and let it lap over your toes, they'd reach a point of cold that's just unpleasant. Wet and cold is a lot more tolerable when the temperature's somewhat warm. See, I'm there with you, and I think I've married that aesthetic to Christmastime for some reason? Not sure if it's all the Christmas movies I've watched over the years while sitting under the blankets and looking for something to suffice as background noise or what, but that perfect sort of snow day always seems to fall in December in my head. Guesswork, the true foundation of all. That's certainly not a bad position to be in, especially when it comes to ice cream. There's just so many different variations of the same flavor; like, chocolate ice cream isn't just plain old chocolate anymore. There's double chocolate, dark chocolate, ultra chocolate... so many options. Ugh, yes, the Snapple facts. Have you gotten any really off the wall ones before? Hey, nothing wrong with that. Any kind of psychology in particular, or is that just the broad umbrella? Crab soup, yum. Now that sounds like the perfect chilly, rainy day meal.

Yes, indeed! I moved to Merrock back in May last year, but I lived in New York City for years before I decided to find something new. RIght? Like, are we even sure it's the same groundhog every year? Plus, I always feel like there's no way that they can see their shadow every damn year. Oh, for sure. I love the eggs and the trees! There's so much more filling in them than the regular ones. I think they should make them year round, with other different shapes and sizes. Peppermint bark is pretty great! It's kind of like me with Peeps. I like collecting as many as I can and then I eat them throughout the rest of the year. Let's see... I know I fought really hard to get tickets to see Taylor Swift. That's one of the biggest shows I'm seeing. But I'm also planning on seeing other artists like SZA, boygenuis, Lizzy McAlpine, Hayley Kiyoko, and Ari Lennox. I'm hoping to see Beyonce as well. And most of the shows are in Boston which I guess will be fun to travel to. Oh, same! I'm jealous of people who can do that day in and day out. Especially influencers, it seems like they can just take a picture or vlog and they're set.

New York City, now that's a bit of culture shock. Merrock's definitely new in comparison. Although, as someone who did the taste of city life for a little bit, there's just something about a slower pace of life that seems to give me the years of my life back where I'd lost them in big city traffic previously trying to merge lanes. Now we're in egg season, and peak Peep season. I always love stocking up on the yellow chick ones, the originals are my favorite. Wow, that's quite the lineup. I remember hearing that the Swifties were teaming up with the DOJ to take down Ticketmaster after that fiasco, and you know what? Good for them. It's too damn complicated to buy tickets for shows these days. I'm so jealous of the SZA show though, and the possibility of Beyoncé? Just stuff me inside of your coat pocket when you go. I'll be discreet, I promise. I'll even sneak in the liquor for us. The traveling aspect of it sounds really fun, though. Boston's not too far off, but it's still a change of scenery. Are you going solo or are you meeting up with friends for your shows? Right? Influencers have it made. Don't have to have any kind of astonishing talent, just gotta be able to take the perfect selfie and schmooze enough to get in the door for those sponsorships and you're set. Must be nice. Although I don't know, if you vlogged all of your concert adventures, I'd definitely subscribe, if only to live vicariously through your adventures.

Isn't that the point of a best friend? Not having to explain yourself and the other one just getting it because I'm pretty sure that's what it means. If that's the case we've got it down pat, babe. Nothing is better than getting out and soaking in the sun, laying out in bathing suits by the water, frozen drinks in hand. It's something I'm already dreaming about and counting down till. See I don't know if I'm quite there, willing to part with a whole extra hour of sleep, I love my sleep -- as you know. I can be pretty grumpy when I lose sleep or my sleep is interrupted by anyone but my daughter, and even then she has like a 50/50 chance of me grumbling. I'm that person that selfishly wants both, extra sunshine but keep my sleep, which I get it doesn't work that way! It probably is a commercial trap, but ha to them, I already have so many sweaters they can't get me into the trap unless it's for Rosalyn because she's growing out of things like a weed all the damn time. Which they have me there, but that's kind of just what kids do, not because the groundhog is claiming six more weeks of winter. Plus this is Maine, we're getting six more weeks regardless of what the damn thing says or doesn't say. Six weeks is actually a light sentence if anything! She was more than spoiled between myself and others. Don't worry whenever you have time we'll get together and you know she'll love seeing you. A whole day of blanket hibernation, movies, girl talk, maybe a little wine when she eventually takes a nap? Has to be full girl day after all! You need to take a break, babes, life is too short to be working your life away even if I know you love your job.

That, along with having a built in sounding board for all of the shit ideas and an automatic plus one to all of the parties and weddings and events where you're bound to not know a soul — that, or you wish you didn't know any of 'em. Speaking of frozen drinks, know what ended up in my lap the other day? Fuckin' beer slushies. And not just your regular ol' beer turned into a slushie a la one of those As Seen on TV product commercials, but a whole slew of different recipes. Beergarita slushies, cherry beer slushies, even an IPA slushie where they throw in whole ass pineapple slices. I've never been thrown for such a loop in my life; not only that, but I've got a whole freezer of samples from the vendor, and you out here talking of a nice day out in the sun with a cold one's really got me thinking you should come over, help me taste test and figure out if I ought to make them a summer specialty at the Garden. I think you're allowed to miss your extra hour of sleep and not want to give it up, solely because you've got your little one as an alarm clock that doesn't acknowledge any time changes. I've got Wayne, but he's becoming an old man. Even after installing that dog door, he's hardly ever up and moving before sunrise. We're lazy daisies at the Seaford residence. I'm telling 'ya, buy that baby extra big clothes so she can just grow into them. She'd be adorable in a sweater that drags on the ground behind her. Six weeks might as well be an eternity. At least we're not in Alaska where we'd just be in the dark all the time. Could you imagine? I wouldn't know up from down. I know, I know, the workaholic's really showing. March is busy for us, with all of the bar crawls for St. Patrick's, but I'm able to slow my roll just the slightest little bit until summer season starts. I know I'll love seeing her, and her pretty mama. I feel like I am constantly out of the loop on all things Cordelia, mostly because every time I blink I see Excel on the backs of my eyelids, but it's an absolute shame. Some best friend I am. How are things? How's the boy?

Oh, god. That van. I was always so afraid, especially the last few times, that Ol' Trusty was going to leave you two stranded on some road in the middle of nowhere. Hey, every time you had to make the drive down and before you left I asked if you really had to. I would've been grateful for you both to have stayed down there. Same here, wherever you, Dee, JC and the kids are is home to me. And I finally got you all in the same place. Sweet! It's a date. Aww you didn't have to get the kids anything but they will be so excited. All I know is that he is taking me away. I know nothing else. Hey, don't knock Betty. She did right by us, even if there was that one time where she stalled on the interstate and we had to get over three lanes of traffic to make it to the shoulder. Besides, we always made it there and back. Not only that, but even on her worst day, she was worth whatever drive she put us through to get to you and JC. See, that is the kind of invitation you can't just throw out, because you know I'll take you up on it without giving you the chance to take it back. There are no take backs here. Are you kidding me? I love your kids more than anything in this world, same way I love you guys and Di. Maybe even slightly more, but that's only 'cause I think they're the greatest little people ever. Anything to come from my favorite couple would have to be, y'know? I'm not doing my duty as an aunt if I'm not spoiling them absolutely rotten. Every time I think that it can't get any colder, the weather seems to surprise me and gets colder and colder. You're right - the holiday spirit makes it tolerable and it can make you even romanticize the snow and the chilly temperatures a bit. And as much as the snow is pretty, I'd rather it melt away so it can get warmer out. I always thought it was a silly tradition. That we'd let a groundhog tell us how many more weeks of winter we'll get. Personally, the candy is my favorite part of Valentine's Day. I went to Cassidy's this morning and I stocked up on all of the gummy bears and taffy. I think, for me, picturing myself on a beach in Bali gets me through the rest of winter. Or my heater that I use when I'm feeling extremely cold.

It's the ultimate betrayal of winter. Once you think you're done, it just sneaks back in and forces you to dig back out all the winter pieces you thought you were able to remove from the closet. I'm glad someone else agrees! Everything at Christmas is just dreamier than usual. Maybe it's the time of year, actual magic floating in the air, or I'm a sucker for yet another capitalist holiday, but a December spent in a snowbank is about the only time it's tolerable. The food's the best part of any holiday — Easter on the horizon means that all of the good chocolate will be back on the shelves. I'm a sucker for the Reese's peanut butter eggs. Don't know what it is about 'em, but they're far better than the regular ones you'd find year round. Any particular candy you're ready to get your hands on? Oh, to be on a beach in Bali at any point throughout the year. If my heart didn't already belong to Merrock, I would be living in a van on the beach in Puerto Rico. Just the thought of sleeping by the ocean, doors open and breeze rolling in off the water... sounds like a dream.

TASK ⦂ THE INSPIRATION BEHIND.

TRIGGER WARNINGS — mentions of depression, car accident, and the death of a child.

I initially dreamed up Rosalie as a muse for another (now closed) group; at the time, I was writing the prickliest porcupine muse who was absolutely disastrous at interactions with other human beings. While it made for incredibly fun angst and heavy threads, it was also hard to go with the flow and let threads carry themselves the same way they would with a muse who was open to anything from the get go. I also really wanted to play an older muse, as I'm not really up to date with the "new" faces floating around the RPC that are under the age of, like, 27. I grew up with most of these 30+ faces, so that's who I tend to write for. I also almost have to have some kind of attachment to the faces I write, because it makes it a hell of a lot more fun for me to write them. Hilarie's a face I've been dying to use ever since I met her, so that was, essentially, the foundation of how Rosalie came to be. And then, the typical life cycle of any Tumblr roleplay completed itself and the group closed, so I had some time to somewhat sit on this character that I'd started but had yet to develop.

Something that's really important to me whenever I create characters to write in a roleplay setting is that I try not to expend all of their "moments" in a backstory. Meaning: I've been in places with partners who have all of the interesting meat of a character in their character's history, and they don't expound on any of it whenever they write them in present. Obviously, I think you can absolutely have well-rounded and interesting characters without a dramatic backstory or future plots lined up, but the fun of writing for me is what's to come and what I can create with other writers. I'm a dramatic bitch. I live for angsty threads, I live for solid development. It's how I keep the excitement in writing a muse alive and fresh. One theme I knew I wanted to dig into with Ro's character was the idea of closure and new beginnings, the idea that a person's life is split up into many different lifetimes categorized by the things that they go through, the places they go, the people they become. I don't think I've ever written a character that doesn't also share depression with me, mostly because it's something that is so personal to me and one way that I choose to deal with it is by exploring it in the many faces it takes. And, of course, I very easily could have written depression into Ro's backstory in a very "normal" manner, but again... hi, I am dramatic, so it had to come about in a different way. I've written a few stories before that deal with the grief of losing a child and for Ro, it almost made sense to give her as a piece of her story. She's the mama bear without a cub, and I felt it explained so much of the way she nurtures those around her, the way she takes time and intent to nourish her relationships and make sure that the people she loves know she loves them. I also loved the idea of her constantly shedding her skin, becoming someone new in each chapter of her life while also staying the same to some degree. It's probably my favorite Taylor Swift quote of all time: "I'll never change, but I'll never stay the same, either."

Ro's a muse that is a lot unlike myself, which tend to be the muses I enjoy writing the most, because I learn more about the other joys in life. Ro's certainly taken a few things from me, like her love of making little gifts for other people for no reason at all, our irrational dislike of birds, and how she loves her people with everything she has. I'm not one who will immediately go outdoors when the weather's beginning to warm up, I'm not a fan of beer in the slightest, and I'm nowhere as good with my hands as Ro is, but she brings me a new appreciation for those things. She's also really fun to write because she has quite a bit of history, but tons of possibility for the future, even if I don't decide to do anything major with her character. She was an A+ fit for this group because her way of life is perfectly suited for the vibes I get from Merrock as a whole: laidback, take it easy, comfy and cozy in that cottage core type of way (if you know, you know!). Ro's my hippie witch baby, so when I took in the rural countryside area of Merrock + The Garden, it was almost as though they were waiting for her to step into frame :')

And yes, I've built her based off of a few of my all-time favorite characters in media ever: Leigh Shaw from Sorry for Your Loss (Elizabeth Olsen is a marvel in everything she does but her performance in SFYL is literally unreal), Izzie Stevens from Grey's (before the writing went downhill and she started having ghost sex), Michelle Simms from Bunheads (my favorite show of all time if you have yet to watch it, it's a MUST), and Piper Halliwell from Charmed. I'm always inspired by the things that I consume, so it's not really a surprise that I see echoes of them in Ro.

I swear what keeps me going is thinking of the island vibes when I walk outside. Oh, no. It's electric with the added weight of a dog. I think everytime we get it out she thinks it's her bed and just plops herself down on my chest. Starting to think that's Di being funny and telling Ginger to do it on purpose. That blanket serves its purpose. You're calling dibs on it next or what? You got me there! I had missed your quick wit. What was I doing so far away for so long. Poor judgment on my part. Could have been born without sanity to be honest. First of its kind thing. You really don't believe this is all natural? Been telling me that since I can remember. You saw my mom and how she had the super dark locks. Her genes were pretty strong. I'm just glad I didn't get my dads fast aging gene. He looked sixty when he was twenty. It's the water in Louisiana. Gonna have to dip your head in there next time we go. I do promise I won't throw you in there without warning you first. Even if the last time was really funny. Ah, but see. There's the added bonus of ice melting makes your lap cold and by the fireplace you're not as hot. You get in that nice and cozy middle of not hot and not cold. There's logic there. That's what scares me a little. Her surprises usually involve my ass getting hit with ice balloons which by the way, thank you for that! You do know that you can't top your own ranking of number one right? You already her top person. Even beat me out for that coveted top spot. She's gonna love that sweater. The one you gave her for her birthday she still wears to bed. It's not a bad smell to have linger. To me it reminds me of sandalwood which also reminds me of you for some reason.

That's a pretty damn good way to go about. Does the thinking of warm thoughts lead you to feeling warmer? Ah, the added dog weight. Can't forget that one. You let that sweet baby snuggle with you, especially while it's still cool and it's not like having a mass heater sitting on top of you in the middle of the summer. Wayne is the worst snuggle buddy whenever summer hits. Perhaps I am, and what're you going to do about it? Glad to hear I was missed, even if it was just my brain. It is, after all, the best part of me. Hope you've got it drilled into your brain that if you and Bells try to up and move away from me again, I am actually packing myself in one of your bags. You guys cannot get rid of me, nor can you live so far away ever again. It's criminal. I knew you had your momma's genes, but I thought for sure your dad would catch up with you at some point. I love my grey, but damn is it a bummer that you're not right behind me, or just a full on salt and pepper kinda guy. You're supposed to stick with me, not make me look like the literal grandma of the group. The last time you did it was not funny. Still plotting my revenge. Haven't decided when or how yet, but it's coming, and if you dip my head under without any warning, said revenge will only be amplified. Which, by the way, gave me back like, five years of my life. You're welcome. It's always a tiny boost to my ego hearing that I am in the number one spot, but I've got to keep that up, JC. I don't think so! If there's anything we're pretty good at, it's throwing a party of any kind and at any caliber. There's not much we don't go all out for, come to think. Been spending the last two weeks or so getting ready for the pub crawl myself. What's your favorite way to celebrate?

“The pub crawl treasure collection thing does look fun,” Marlow mused, cocking her head to the side. “All the pub crawls I’ve been on were just, like... Go to these bars. Drink lots. End of game.” She laughed at that, thinking back to those first years in New York.  “I like that Merrock does something a little more organized with the ‘pot of gold’ and everything.” 

Bringing her green beer up for a sip, Marlow laughed a little and shook her head. “Not enough to get me to go join, though! I think I’m well past my ‘pub crawl’ prime years.”

"That's the Merrockian way," Ro chuckled, folding her arms on the surface of the bar and leaning forward. "Organized events, maximum fun, keeping things fresh. Besides, keeps people coming back year after year, and it keeps me in business." A smile etched over her lips. She wasn't a participant in the festivities by any means; she was the person who profited off of everyone else's fun on a night like this, when the town found itself swollen with those looking to celebrate with a drink or two. Bar crawls weren't much of her thing as it was, but it made for good fun to be the observer in the mix of it all. She'd seen it all across the years. At the very least, it was entertaining. "Ah, c'mon," she teased lightly, reaching out to nudge Marlow. "What's the prime year on a pub crawl, anyways? It's a holiday. Don't know that anyone would think any differently of 'ya." Her head tipped in the direction of the glass in Marlow's hand. "Let me know when you're up for a refill. 'Least you can do is humor me on the return of the goddamn green beer that I order every year against my will."

"Thanks for the recommendation. I will absolutely let my friend know about that one. They will love it..." Cass giggled and packed away the book to, to later take to the librarian and put down on her card as borrowed. It was quite embarrassing, but she was happily surprised by the stranger's reaction.

"You should," Rosalie encouraged with a soft smile. "I think I stayed up until two in the morning when I first read it. One of those books you can't really put down until you're finished with it." She shrugged, hoisting her bag's strap higher up onto her shoulder as she readjusted her grip on the books she'd accumulated. "You doing any reading this week?"

Who: Cassi & Open

Where: Local library in Merrock

When: 2nd of March, Thursday, Read America Day

Cassi made it to the local library, looking for a book to read for Lily before bed. However shortly after making it there she found herself browsing romance section. A bit of embarrassing guilty pleasure. As she dropped one book, she reached for it and saw someone.

"This is for a friend." She clarified, embarrassed

Another round of library books due and another set on hold waiting to be picked up, Ro still found herself combing the aisles for something to jump off the shelf — to say the romance aisles were a haunt of hers felt a bit of an understatement. Her indulgences few, borderline trashy novels sitting atop the list, she wasn't too far away from the other person frequenting the aisle when they dropped their book. Bending down to assist, they locked eyes. Ro's eyebrows vaulted, amusement glinting in her eyes. "Yeah?" she echoed, soft smile curving along the edges of her mouth. "Tell your friend they'll enjoy that one. I've yet to read a bad book by that author; perfect for a nice night and a glass of wine."
