She could feel him gradually leaning into her more and more, and felt the need to tighten her arms around him as if it would keep him from completely falling apart. She didnât know how to make him feel better, the more she tried, it seemed like he kept crying more. So rather than continuing to try to cheer him up, Lucinda figured she would try to distract him. After a moment, she came up with an idea. âTeach me how to play.â She said softly, pulling back just enough to look him in the eyes again.
He didnât much like this type of contact, but for once, it felt comforting. It took him some time, but after a moment, he started to calm down. By the time she pulled away, he was shaking considerably less, and had released his grip on her shirt. His eyes went from her to the keyboard, staring at them for a moment. âIâve never taught anyone.â Evan started, not sure in his abilities to teach someone how to play.
lucyslapalot:
nce the words finally came out of his mouth, Lucinda regretted mentioning family at all. It was clear that that was the subject which was bothering him, and as he clung to her, she did her best to stay calm even though she was overcome with sadness for him. She couldnât even begin to imagine what he was going through at that moment. âShh, thatâs not true. Weâre friends, you have me. Youâre not alone.â She murmured, not knowing what else to say that might make him feel better.
With each passing second, he leaned a little more onto her. Heâd never cried so much in his, life not even when his parents died - mostly because he didnât fuly understand it at that time. But he felt like with her, he could just let it all out, all the sadness heâs kept bottled up for years was ccoming out all at once. He couldnât even say anything, the sobs wouldâve made it incomprehensible anyway. But he was glad she was there, and somehow, he just knew he could trust her.
lucyslapalot:
âSeveral things. Youâre not a bad guy, Evan. You have friends, a family. Why wouldnât someone care about you?â She asked softly, completely unaware of the fact that heâd lost so much of his family. As she hugged him, Lucinda could hear him start crying, which just caused her to hug him tighter, gently rubbing his back to calm him down. âHey, itâs okay. Youâre gonna be okay.â She mumbled reassuringly.
It took him a moment before he could finally say something, his voice craking. âI donât have...â Evan started, but the next words couldnât leave his mouth. Slowly, his arms wrapped around her, his hands gripping her shirt as he didnât want to let go. âTheyâre all gone. I donât have anyone.â His managed to say, his eyes shutting tight. Maybe if they were closed tight enough, tears would stop falling, but it only made it worse.
lucyslapalot:
Even if he wasnât willing to talk, hearing him play a few more notes on the piano was reassuring to Lucinda, and she smiled softly at him as he played. âOf course youâre worth being concerned about.â She said softly. The moment he looked at her and their eyes met, she could tell just how broken he really was. It hurt her to see him like this, even if they werenât very close. âMaybe.â She mumbled, hesitating just a moment before she leaned forward and pulled him into a tight hug.
Evan shook his head a little at her words. Heâd only ever been a horrible person, there was no reason anyone could care and be concerned about him. âWhy? What makes me worth it?â Although still in disbelief, his voice was slowly getting calmer. There was no use staying mad when he was only mad at himself, and life in general, not her. He tried to be strong, but when he felt her arms, itâs like all the walls he tried to build to contain his emotions fell down. And all he could do was stay there and let the tears roll down uncontrollably.
lucyslapalot:
The more he tried to push her away, the more determined Lucinda was to just stay and do her best to help him. She knew his argument was valid, but she really wasnât trying to argue with him. Shrugging her shoulders a bit, Lucinda dropped the piano debate. When he said it wasnât her job to take care of him, she looked a bit taken aback, but quickly covered it up by rolling her eyes. âYouâre right, itâs not my job. That just means Iâm here voluntarily, because I want to help. I donât have any ulterior motives here, Iâm just concerned about you.â Lucy stated stubbornly. Since he didnât immediately shrug her hand off of his shoulder, she kneeled down beside him, looking him straight in the eyes. âIâm not leaving until Iâm absolutely certain that youâre going to be okay, so you might as well talk.â
He didnât want to think about it, and he certainly didnât want to speak about it. So to try and avoid the discussion, he brought his attention back to the piano, raising one of his hands to distractedly play some notes. âDonât. Iâm not worth being concerned about.â He said, pressing a few more notes. But as he felt her kneeling down, Evan looked in her direction, just for his eyes to meet hers. And he wasnât able to look away after that. âAnd what happens if I donât talk? You just follow be around until I say something?â
emmieliaxravenclaw:
âWait, I thought you meant⌠water? Or something?âÂ
âWater?â He chuckled. âI thought it was obvious itâs not water I need.â
noahfinch:
âIâm glad you are. I want to be.â To help show he wasnât getting up, he poured some tea for himself.
âAre you kidding me? Get lost!â He said, not even caring anymore if people heard.Â
evcnce:
âOh really now?â She mused, cocking a brow. âOh thatâs a laugh and a half. You just barely beat Gryffindor.â
âBut youâre not Gryffindor. And as much as I donât like them, theyâre a lot better than you are.â
smadfoot:
âMy heart hurts for you, Evan. Now how about you pass the booze instead of beginning to cry.â
âFuck off, Black. Get it yourself.â Evan replied before taking a swig from his own bottle.
lucyslapalot:
His reply was far harsher than Lucinda had anticipated, and she awkwardly shoved her hands in the pockets of her robes, rocking forward on her feet before she took a couple more steps in his direction. âWell I think youâre good. And either way, youâre still better than I am. I canât play at all.â She replied, hoping it might make him feel at least a little bit better. His next words, however, caused her even more concern. As soon as he turned to look at her, she let out a soft sigh, moving forward to close the rest of the distance between them. Lucy stood beside him at the piano and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. âEvan, youâre not fine, donât even try lying to me. Whatâs going on? Whatever it is, Iâll keep it between the two of us. No one else has to know, but itâs not healthy to keep it all bottled up and never tell anyone.â Though she was being stubborn (and she was well aware of how stubborn she was), she still smiled softly at him in an attempt to get him to open up to her.
He didnât intend to be rude, but he also prefered to be alone. And he was only hoping that by being so harsh, sheâd just go. But he soon realized she was far too stubborn for that, he shouldâve known it. âYou canât compare yourself to someone who can play if you canât yourself.â He said, but part of him knew she had apoint. And Evan also knew that if the situation was different, he would probably just propose to show her. But that possibility wasnât even in his mind for now. âI donât have any reason to tell you, or anyone. And last I checked, itâs not your job to take care of me.â He replied, but as soon as he felt her hand, he felt a little weaker. It was like a reminder that this was reality, that people could be there for him. And all it made him want to do was to lean in for support, but he was too scared that if he allowed himself to le go and talk about how he felt, sheâd just leave. And heâd rather she leave now than after she saw how weak he was.
lucyslapalot:
Lucinda had been making her way back from the Great Hall to her common room, when she happened to pass by the music room. Usually at this time of day, the room was empty, since all of the music classes were taught way earlier in the day. As she passed by, she could hear someone inside the room playing the piano, which instantly caught her attention. Her curiousity getting the better of her, Lucinda poked her head into the room, quietly watching Evan play. She could only see the back side of him from where she stood, so she couldnât exactly tell who was playing, but she could tell he was good. Quietly, she took a couple steps into the room, being careful not to bump into anything as she moved to get a better view of who was sitting at the piano.Â
It was then that he hit the wrong key, and Lucy could see the frustration as his hands fell from the piano. The moment he spoke, Lucinda froze instinctively. She hadnât even considered the possibility he may not appreciate her listening in while he played, but now that she had been caught, there was no point in trying to deny it. She could tell by that point that it was Evan, since theyâd had several long conversations about quidditch before (mostly debates about which players at the school were better than others). âSorry, I heard you from the hall. Youâre really good.â She replied, a hint of nervousness in her voice. They werenât exactly close, but she knew from the tone of his voice that something was off, which caused her to frown and take a few steps toward him. âWhatâs going on? Are you okay?â
Even though he wasnât looking at her, her voice was enough for him to recognize it was Lucinda. Theyâve been talking about Quidditch way too much for him to not be able to recognize her. But they werenât friends, exactly, nor were they even close friends. So he saw no reason to try and be nice, let alone open up about his feelings. âI was really good. I can only do bad now.â He replied quite coldly, keeping his gaze away from her. If it had been just some random student, he wouldâve probably hexed them. But even though they were only acquaintances, that was enough to stop him from hexing her. Sheâd only been nice so far, despite the little arguments which was only about Quidditch most of the time. Heâd never forgive himself for hurting someone thatâs only been nice to him. âOh, Iâm fine. Iâm totally fine! Canât you see how fine I am?â He let out sharply, finally turning in her direction. Anyone could tell by seeing him then that he was not fine at all. It looked more like a call for help, although heâd never directly ask for that, or even accept it with open arms.
