I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

do not use my OCs as your OCs - says every artist and creator, ever

Today someone messaged me about this piece by Eldrtchmn and asked If i could send them the file so they could use it as their OC

Hey man I loved the art you commissioned and I have a question do you have a full body version of the character without the skeleton mask like in the gif? I was hoping to use that version for my next oracle playthrough.

By saying that they know I commissioned this piece, that means they know I paid money for it. I saved up, I came up with an idea, I gathered references, I waited my turn on the waitlist, and I worked back and forth with this artist to develop MY character. Not yours.

By specifying that this is for their next oracle playthrough, they indicate that they’re basing their concept of their character on my oracle. Basically making their version of my character and trying to RP her.

Halide was my first ever PF character, her history is intensely personal and related to multiple campaigns I’ve played with her. The idea of someone thinking they could play her or “do her better” or do her in their own way, while wearing her face that, again, I paid for, is repulsive.

Never, ever, do this.

Don’t tag your own OCs in reblogs of an artist’s OCs. I see this on my dash all the time, artists feeling looked-over, forgotten, unimportant, because someone thinks their very personal and dear ORIGINAL CHARACTER might look like someone from critical role if you squint.

Allow us to clarify: several times in the past a few people tagged their inquisitor on some of our images with either just their name or something like “this is totally [inquisitor’s name]!” or start describing a scenario that their inquisitor would do. Now all of that may seem pretty harmless, but to us it essentially just boils the role of our own inquisitors in these pictures down to a template. We realize that this is how that game presents the inquisitor, but that’s exactly why we work so hard to create images and scenarios that are very personal to our own brand and take on DA:I. But when people just tag over it with their own characters, it feels like all that’s being erased just for the sake of getting ‘free art/ free face-claim’.

Were not trying to say that no one’s allowed to have inquisitors with personalities and relationships like ours, because that’s petty and also impossible to prevent. We just don’t appreciate having to read that in the tags. We drew our own characters, for ourselves; if they happen to look or act or anything like your characters, please, keep it to yourself.

hiiii i usually refrain from making text posts here but i wanted to quickly mention: my OCs are not for public use! they’re not for your roleplays, theyre not for you to copy and paste, and theyre not for your OC inspiration mood-boards. I’ve been seeing a lot of people tag my (sometimes extremely personal) original art with the names of their own OCs, commenting about how “this is just how i picture X looking!” If you really have these sentiments, keep them to yourself, please! I guarantee 90% of artists dont want to be told that their OCs remind people of their own OCs or of existing fictional characters. It’s not a compliment, I promise you.

Sylaise, Keeper of Fire and Home

Sylaise's design is based on a gorgeous model I saw while scrolling pinterest whose body was just screaming "goddess" to me.

I was also inspired by some ancient frescoes I was able to see recently on exhibit showing different queenly/noble fashions. The rope/see through shawl was inspired by that, as well as the waist wrap.

Sylaise's crown is the sunbeams and you can't tell me otherwise

The feathers in her crown pale in comparison to traditional regalia but I am not that good at feathers; also they're coming out of a lotus because I think it's pretty

Sylaise's pet snake is to represent her side as a prolific Healer

She wears shells on her shoulders to tie her to her sister (who wears abalone shells in her hair)

The bracelet is also made out of shells - saw a gorgeous set of a collar, a shawl, and cuffs made out of these thin white shells that were once used as currency by the Chumash people and other groups.

Rings given to her by June

Her war paint represents the curling smoke of burnt offerings of petitioners seeking her aid; she was one of the few to still honor those requests, even as the rest of her family turned their backs
